I was recently offered a job on a mother/baby floor after working a year on a med surg floor. Can anyone offer any advice on how to transition to this completely different field of nursing? This is my dream job and I don't want to mess it up. Are there any reference books I should read?? We were only given one semester of maternal child nursing in school and only one clinical and I don't remember very much about it. It was given during the summer and we rushed through it. ANY help would be appreciated! Thanks!!

It says that we should have them printed out & bring them to the first class. If anyone finds out what we should do please let me know.

I have BCBS of alabama and I know that my policy covered my flu shot that I had even though most policies don't cover flu shots. It's always best just to let them file with your insurance. That will also buy you some time so that you won't have to pay up front for it.

Does anyone know if we need anything for the first day of class for Health Assessment? (i.e. stethoscope...)

I have already prepared myself to buy all new books. I know that I will keep mine after I graduate so I figured that I would just buy them all new. Do you know if we will need the stethoscope for this first semester?

I had 197 points for the part time program. I am not sure why they are calling some and not others. Orientation is Tuesday so they have to notify everyone before then.

I GOT IN!!!!!! I received a call from the advisor to let me know that I got in to the part time program and that orientation is July 14!!! I am so excited. She said that the letters were in the mail but that she had to call to see if I wanted to accept or decline since orientation is in one week!!! If anyone else hears....please post!! Good Luck!!

The advisor @ the Jefferson campus replied to my email and said that it will be mid/late July before they send out the letters. So, I guess we don't have to expect it for at least another few weeks. I'm not sure why it is taking them so much longer this time to send out the letters. I'm dying to know!!!!!!

I just emailed the Jefferson campus to see about the part-time program. I will let everyone know if she responds. I am just tired of rushing home to the mailbox everyday!!!!!!!! Hopefully I will get an answer and maybe we will have a better idea.

I know that last year the letters were sent the last week of June. So, if that is the way that it will be this year then we should receive our letters some time next week.

Which advisor told you that it would be the end of June??? B/C ******* also told me that it would be July and she made it sound like it would be middle July......I would really like to know when to start looking for the letter. I think that we have to be CPR certified before the first day of class. Where are you getting your certification?

I put the part time program as my only choice and if I don't get in this time then I will just have to figure out a way to apply for the full time that starts in January. I would really love to just get in the part time progam because I could keep my job. I think that we will need the CPR certification before we start classes so whenever we can get it would be great. A lot of people have told me about the Hoover Fire Dept. so let me know if you think you can get us a time to do it. Is it an all day class? I have looked at all of the "Nursing Made Incredibly Easy" books and they seem like they would be helpful. I am thinking about ordering some of those online. It will give me something to do while I patiently wait to hear something.

They will send out letters to all who are accepted and rejected. I think that classes start around August 20, but early registration is around the middle of July and there will be an orientation but I am not sure exactly when that will be. I am also not sure of what it will cost b/c I have applied for the part time program and for the fall there are only 2 nursing courses and no clinicals....but it is different for the full time program. I really hope that the person that told you that was right because I am not sure how much longer I can patiently wait. I'm tired of trying to plan everything for if I do...or dont....get in. Did they say why the wait is so much longer than it normally is? I thought that for Fall they usually find out the first week of July?????????? That doesn't give very much time to get things ready does it?

I just applied to Jeff State's part time program. If I don't get in then I will try to apply at other places.

probably late June or early July........We still have a looooong wait. I keep hoping that maybe this year they will send them out earlier. I don't know if I can wait another month!
