I was recently offered a job on a mother/baby floor after working a year on a med surg floor. Can anyone offer any advice on how to transition to this completely different field of nursing? This is my dream job and I don't want to mess it up. Are there any reference books I should read?? We were only given one semester of maternal child nursing in school and only one clinical and I don't remember very much about it. It was given during the summer and we rushed through it. ANY help would be appreciated! Thanks!!

Where is the Shelby County Health Dept?

It says that we should have them printed out & bring them to the first class. If anyone finds out what we should do please let me know.

I have BCBS of alabama and I know that my policy covered my flu shot that I had even though most policies don't cover flu shots. It's always best just to let them file with your insurance. That will also buy you some time so that you won't have to pay up front for it.

Does anyone know if we need anything for the first day of class for Health Assessment? (i.e. stethoscope...)

I have already prepared myself to buy all new books. I know that I will keep mine after I graduate so I figured that I would just buy them all new. Do you know if we will need the stethoscope for this first semester?

I had 197 points for the part time program. I am not sure why they are calling some and not others. Orientation is Tuesday so they have to notify everyone before then.

I GOT IN!!!!!! I received a call from the advisor to let me know that I got in to the part time program and that orientation is July 14!!! I am so excited. She said that the letters were in the mail but that she had to call to see if I wanted to accept or decline since orientation is in one week!!! If anyone else hears....please post!! Good Luck!!

The advisor @ the Jefferson campus replied to my email and said that it will be mid/late July before they send out the letters. So, I guess we don't have to expect it for at least another few weeks. I'm not sure why it is taking them so much longer this time to send out the letters. I'm dying to know!!!!!!

I just emailed the Jefferson campus to see about the part-time program. I will let everyone know if she responds. I am just tired of rushing home to the mailbox everyday!!!!!!!! Hopefully I will get an answer and maybe we will have a better idea.

I know that last year the letters were sent the last week of June. So, if that is the way that it will be this year then we should receive our letters some time next week.
