I have always been interesed in being a nurse and really didnt know why either, i know that it's for needing to contribute to society, helping people that are in need, compassion, finacial stability to support my single mother (that's me!) family, feeling and being confident, just knowing that what i am doing might make a difference, having some knowledge about medicine, and most importantly to me, is knowing that if my family needed medical attention asap that i would be there hoping that i could make a difference. Some of that doesnt make sense, it's hard to put into words. it's just how you feel about something and being able to wake up in the morning and be genuinely happy about what you do.

I understand how you feel! i spent 10 years not knowing what i wanted. i went to college for buisness management and was asst mgr prepping for the mgmt position when i realized...is this what i want to do with the rest of my life? NO! i wanted to make a difference, to feel like i was contributing to society. So I have always been interesed in becoming a nurse. I also wanted to start from the bottom. I was told that most cnas' were able to get through nurseing school easier because alot of things were familiar to them, i have learned alot working in a hospital, so i got my liscence last year and have been working as a cna since then, i got cpr cert, and this summer plan on getting phlebotomy cert. i also want to take the med aide course possibly after that. anything to make it easier when i finally do go to school, i want to be an LVN then RN and i also want to go to school for surgical tech. the nursing fiedl has so many possibilities. it may take me several years but that's whats so exciting, i make a goal and reach it then go on to the next. i dont think that we can ever learn too much. we were with the LVN and she showed us on a patient what to do, we then were paired up and assigned a patient. we did various things and showed the nurse. pretty easy.

Great Q! Thas is exactly what I would ask. I am a CNA and want to get as much expierence doing EVERYTHING before i try to get in to become an LVN. I just finished talking to the cont. ed. counsler to get info on phlebotomy. I also want to get my med aide cert. i do think having all these would help with getting a good job. as far as cna jobs. around here it is really pretty easy to get a job in a nursing home, thing is pay doesn't match the labor. i have a job with an agency and part time with home health, but the home health job didnt hire me as a cna but as a provider, which basically means that they didnt want to pay me the cna rate. i think that is a cop out!
