St. Helena Hospital
hello, I applied as well. I'm a little confused about the letter of intent as there are no instructions as there usually are on a versant program listing. Usually they ask why you want to be a nurse and what you will be doing in 5 years. Does anyone know anything specific about St. Helena?

(( I have no idea why they picked who they did, but as you can see from those who didn't get into SF, and then got admitted to SM i dont think it has anything to do with your qualifications. I really think they are trying to fill some kind of formula (so many males/females/older students/students with xyz experience etc) I seriously think the reason I was picked was because I am hispanic and speak conversational spanish. Based on their demographics and that scholarship they offered i think this is underrepresented at SMU. Also i had a really awesome, impressive, person (Doctor) write me a letter of rec, and I think my essays were pretty good. I worked with high school kids on writing personal statements a while back as a job, so i think i'm okay at this. My stats were about 3.4 on last 90 quarter units, science probably 3.6-3.75, NET score 88. I have 4 years of experience working in public health with injection drug users and 3 years working with abused children and seasonal work as an admin in a doctors office. Not exactly health care work, but I tied it all together in my essays. If there were 100 spots and 177 applicants i'd think this made me a shoe-in, but considering how insanely qualified all of the applicants probably are, I really think it was the latino/spanish thing that tipped the scales. Dave, the next cohorts start in april, may and june at sf/oakland/and san mateo. I'm sorry to hear they didn't offer you a spot this time, but if you are waitlisted that still means they want you! I'm sure if you don't get a spot this time you will for the next term! It's so incredibly frustrating to see so many enthusiastic/over qualified people practically fighting to go to school... school is a good thing! (I blame Bush) just kidding

Samuel Merritt ABSN 2010 San Mateo
Hey everybody, So I guess it's begun.. I got the call around 3:15 today from a 510 phone number that I was accepted to San Mateo!!! I was so shocked I forgot all the questions I've been asking all week, and screamed and started speeding once I hung up the phone. I don't know if this was early or regular admissions... Did anyone else get a call today? I hope to see you all in January, I feel like we've been going through this madness together for so freakin long! It's so scary and exciting! Good luck all!

I think they put all of our applications in one of those air-blower money grab machines and one of the administrators stands in there and grabs the winners at random personally

Melody, Are you sure they have already accepted 14 people at Sac? I know someone was told that, but what I didn't understand was 14 people being considered "early admissions" and the rest being told the week after... what's the point of early admissions if everyone else is told a week later? I'm willing to bet not all 14 have been notified yet, or maybe even selected..

Hi Dave, Thanks for the update, it sounds like che and liza have conflicting information. Maybe she was speaking of the Sacramento campus in the other email? This is the only nursing school i applied to, mostly because I invested so much time in all the prereqs, but I wouldn't be devastated if I can just forward my application to the next semester in SF or Oakland. I told myself if I don't get in I'm going to take a trip to Maui next year! San Mateo would be much better due to my location and the timing though. I hope one of us hears soon, I'm excited for all of us even if it's not me!

Anyone hear anything yet? I'm a wreck everytime I check the mail. I would think if they were notifying people at San Mateo at least one of us would know by now. Are they lagging?

I wouldn't expect SMU to be that timely about notifying everybody, assuming no one from San Mateo has found out yet. I'm hoping they are notifying Sac. students first and thats why none of us has heard. Given the pricey tuition the first 5-10 people on the wait list probably have a really good shot. Who knows if everyone will even be able to pay! It could take a while before everyone is notified. I noticed there has been 2-6 people reading this and the Sac. threads all weekend everytime I checked them (which I checked nonstop btw) i'll have my fingers crossed for all of us this week! Good Luck guys!

Wow, thanks for posting this. here i thought it was the end of september! how stressful...

Samuel Merritt ABSN 2010 San Mateo
Haha! I could have written all of your posts. I think this school gets a kick out of torturing people! I responded to the sender with a million questions trying to find out what conditionally accepted meant. Hopefully it means that they will be letting us know soon. For those of you who filled out the FAFSA, when they ask what level of college you are applying for did you put graduate/professional or undergrad? there really isnt an ABSN option.. :/

So I probably wasn't the only one to get an email from SMU saying that the review panel found my application 'complete'. (yay!) Although I already knew that i was a little scared my A+P and Micro may not make the cut since they were Denver Community College online classes. I guess SMU is okay with that. If that rumor about mid september is true we should be hearing soon. Will they email us our rejection/acceptance letters as well? I'm a nervous wreck every time i get anything in my inbox from them!

Thats because the SF program starts really soon.. I think next month? and the San Mateo program starts in January. Was your friend on a wait list? If so do you know what number they were? I think most of the SF people started getting their acceptance in July.

here is the body of the email. weird how they ended it with the mpa program though. its probably just the same thing they send to those students and they forgot to change the email. the email was sent on tuesday the 18th, could they have another email that you don't normally use? if your check has cleared already i'd say that was good enough notification that they have received your application! dear absn applicants: thank you for your interest in samuel merritt university and the absn program. we are unceasingly processing your applications and you will be receiving email updates as soon as your file has been processed. please, be patient when you don't receive immediate responses. we respectfully request that you do not contact us for application status updates. however, if you need to do so, expect a faster communication via email than phone. this notification assures you that we have your application, it is being reviewed, and that we will contact you directly if we need any additional information or have any questions regarding your application. thank you again for your interest and for your application to our mpa program. sincerely,

i just got that email today and like a spaz I counted every other email address that it was sent to! i was hoping that was for sac and san mateo. I dont think 177 is much more than they usually get per semester based on the stats they posted for the school..

If you are already registered at sbcc you can email him through pipeline you can find all the staff emails under address book when you compose a new email. I'm not sure if you can email him from an outside account. It seems to me he never gave us an actual email for him that was outside of the webct program.

Run, just out of curiousity do you know if.. once SMU determines that your prerequisites are adequate for admission and you get the email that you have made it past the first round, is that group of 100-200+ elligible students then put into a random lottery for the 48 or 96 seats (Including both campuses) and just chosen by chance, or is admissions accepting people based on personal history/experience/gpa etc.? I'm a little confused as to what their guidelines actually are. Are we wandering in the dark hoping to be randomly selected because we meet the minimum requirements or do some of us have better chances than other based on what we have done with our education and experience?

I took pathophysiology at SBCC with ***** *********, he was okay just make sure you read all the posts on the message boards because he docks you points if you dont. For pharm at SBCC the professors first name was ***** I cant remember the last name. I really liked these classes because they did not pile excessive work on you, like some online classes do there was just basically two message board postings and a quiz every week with two exams and a 2 page paper. I found interpersonal communication at SBCC much more difficult, amazingly.

Hey fall group, I just sent in my application for winter hopefully in San Mateo. Can anyone that has been accepted so far give me an idea of what the process is like? From what I can gather they send you a letter of acceptance that you need to reply to and then what? Is there an interview, a physical or anything else that comes before the first day of class? Also at what point do you have to complete the AHA cpr class... I'm having a hard time finding any on their website! Good luck to you all. Thanks

oh good i dont feel so alone now! I called the admissions office about a week after the deadline and the woman I talked to made it sound like we would not get a confirmation postcard or email, she was able to check the computer for my application. i also noticed my check cleared about a week later. She also said that the july 1st deadline was not really that strict and people could apply later. Let me know if you hear anything, and hopefully I will see you in class january!
