  1. I've been previously chastised for being easy going, etc., but this is exactly why I take it easy. When you put the pedal to the metal, you burn out. I learned that working in restaurants before nursing school. You may be forced to take fewer breaks or idle less, but do your body good and go slower throughout the day. Hang out in the patient's room more, if you like.
  2. Illegal, yes. Patients giving away or selling their meds happens all the same (I work in psych, so maybe I just see it more often). At any rate, I'm not as shocked as you are. Now, what to do. That's entirely up to you. I personally wouldn't do anything. Good luck!
  3. Nice post, and I agree. She would be dumb is she actually believed her stuff. It can happen, however, that you (or other "competent" nurses) exacerbate the problem by getting on her case about everything. I had a preceptor like that, and it was horribly irritating. It's easier to make stuff up than to deal with grief from coworkers. Whatever the case, let the learning process occur. If she doesn't learn, then she won't last long, but don't feel so important that you start to believe you can do something about this nurse's habits or personality. Go with the flow.
  4. As a male, I would completely trust a female's intuition in this situation. And cath the patient for her. I don't doubt that some people are pervs. Or lonely.
