I am applying to a primary care FNP program and my goal is to work in urgent care. Can this be done with it being primary care?

How long does it take after u submit application does it usually take until u find out if u got accepted into a fnp program? And do u find out online or only by mail? Also do u get a letter either way if it is yes or no?

just curious your opinion and yeah I know no one knows but I wrote a personal goal statement and just don't like it and not sure how to make it better. I've had family look at it some. I have really good grades and good g p a. I can write a paper just fine but not this for some reason. I have plenty of nursing experience. Could I still get in fnp program if the personal statement is not good but good grades and gpa and nursing experience ?

website says in bold letters to submit application first. When I talk to fnp coordinator at school she says transcripts first bc application will be imcomplete. So which do I do?? What did your program require? Also do I have to wait on letters of recommendation to be done before submitting application? Because the letters of recommendation are sent directly from the recommender to school email. I'm confused. Thanks for any comments

It's July 14 now and deadline is October 1. I've done everything except get my letters of recommendation and get transcripts both official and unofficial. Am I waiting too late? Should I wait til next time to apply? I've told one person about letter of recommendation and currently trying to get in touch with the other. So I'll have to wait for them to write the letters and also however long it takes to get transcripts. I'm hoping it's not too late for the October 1 deadline. I'm not sure how the application process works like does my application have to be amazing to be considered now since they have seen so many others by now?

Someone please explain this to me??? Some of my coworkers say they are getting their masters degree at their own pace. What in the world? So there are no deadlines for papers and all? This makes no sense to me. These people are not going back for a nurse practitioner degree but yet a masters in nursing . Are there any fnp programs that do that? Surely not. Thanks for any comments

I have been a nurse for six years. I feel kinda discouraged like maybe I should have become a fnp a long time ago. I'm wondering if school will be much harder now at 31. I had really good grades in school but haven't had to study, write papers, projects etc. in forever and part of me feels like what am I doin starting all over again? I don't know. I don't guess I really have a question but thanks for reading. Any comments are appreciated.

I'm so disappointed where I normally would have been very happy because I just found out I'm pregnant and I already have a two year old and was going to start school in an online fnp program January 2017. So now be honest... Should I cancel and go another time in life? Is this impossible? i have a husband who many days can stay home all day with the kids due to his work schedule and daycare with the very rare occasion of in laws watching the kids. Please give honest advise. I really want to go to school but don't want to get into anything that I can't handle. Thanks

@BCgradnurse: So who did you have professionally critique your paper? If I knew someone other than friends and family I would pay to have them look at it. The paper is definitely my weakness at this point though it really shouldn't be. Thank you for your help

I have good grades and a high GPA and six years of nursing experience with medical surgical for five years as well as urgent care and experience on a renal floor. I'm great at reading and test taking but for some reason I have trouble writing things about myself like a personal statement. Is this part really important on getting into fnp school?

If given an order to start 500ml ns bolus and bp is 78/50 hr 41. You were told pt would die within the next few days but not exactly expecting today. fast respiratory rate for the day before and that day. Would the bolus have kept them alive for long or at all if given immediately? There were Tons of other stat orders and other lab people workin on them as we'll as starting another iv before bolus was given. Pt passed before bolus given

I am a new nurse and I'm coming up with lots of little questions. when a doctor order says change dressing every day, and i am a day nurse does that mean i am supposed to change it and then the night nurse does not have to? or does that really mean change it once a shift so the morning nurse and night nurse both change it? And how are you supossed to know when they changed it last if they didn't document it in a place you can readily find? Do you just go by the date and time on the dressing itself?

I'm working in med/surg now and it seems crazy but i'm overwhelmed most days. I'm a new grad but maybe this just means nursing is not for me however I really love it. Do you have a suggestion of a slower paced floor? I never get out on time at the end of the day because I have so much charting, but sometimes I have to get help to finish some tasks at the end of the day and this is not how I want to live my life anymore. should i try a smaller hospital would that make a difference?

I was visiting a friend at this hospital and noticed that there are very few patients. There was no one on the fourth floor which is there medsurg floor. I was wondering why. Does anyone know the reputation of this place? do you know the nurse patient ratio, is it really slow paced? what is it like? I am asking because I was considering applying there. Other than that, the place looks really nice and is real close to where I live so any information on it would be nice. Thank you.

I have been out of school as an RN for a year now and have been working at a urgent care place for six months. My dream is to be a nurse in the hospital, but I have been applying like everyday to several posiitions and never got an interview until recently. I actually got three one right after another. Each interview I prepared like crazy. I looked at common interview questions and thought of what I might say to them. I even researched and reviewed the textbook about what I could encounter on the floor. The problem is I pretty much have a social phobia, usually only when I feel like i'm being judged in some way. So, I can't hardly think straight and sometimes fumble over my words and can't even remember what I studied cause my mind feels cloudy from pure stress and anxiety. Its really bad and there is honestly nothing I can do about it. I think some of my answers seemed real intelligent but I'm sure they could tell i was nervous and just didn't want me so they only asked like three questions. But I mean I don't even know what type answers they are expecting to begin with. If I did that would help a lot. The main thing is, if they only knew how great of a nurse I can be and how truly hard working I am they would definitely hire me. But they just never get to see who I really am just because I can't make a good first impression. Now I feel like I will never get a hospital job. I just don't know what to do because my personality and who I am will always be the same no matter how hard I try to change it. I guess what I want to ask is what do these interviewers want you to say to them? what are some specific things they like to hear? because I am completely clueless. If I ever get over being so nervous then having the correct answers would be great. Thank you so much for any help or advice of any kind.

I graduated in Dec 2009 and passed the boards in Feb. I'm so stressed out cause I have been applying everyday since then and have only gotten one interview and no job offer. I live in the Greenville area but would be willing to move to anywhere in SC, NC or a last resort Georgia. Do you know if anyone is currently hiring and i'm just looking in the wrong places or doing something wrong? Also, do you think this may change soon?

I really hate this because I made all A's and one B in nursing school but I realize that either I do not have much common sense or it is just my bad memory because right when I passed the NCLEX and became a nurse all my friends and family ask me medical questions when they are sick or having problems and it is really hard for me to answer correctly. I'm just no good at it and it makes people wonder what I learned or how I made it through nursing school. This really hurts my confidence. The funny thing is I never even had a slight problem in nursing classes or clinicals. I am trying to not be so hard on myself because I have never had a nurse job before and I am still looking for one. Is this going to get any better with experience or was I just not meant to be a nurse? This makes me feel bad. I'm wondering whether i should consider going into another field. Please tell me honestly what you think!!! Thanks so much for any advice!!!

I just did the trick and it worked but i'm certain I had to have failed the nclex at 75 questions. However, there were tons of select all that apply so I thought that might have been a good sign. But when I practed the select all that apply questions on the kaplan quizes I ALWAYS got them wrong. So now I don't know what to think. I'm really scared

I am taking kaplan q bank questions and I am making between 50-60% on most all of my practice questions. I am usually doing only ten questions at a time on tutor mode. Is that OK to do or do I need to be taking all 50 questions on timed mode to determine if I will pass the NCLEX? I'm just really worried about these scores because I thought I had to make a 60 on all tests with 50 questions. Thanks for any help!!

Do you have to do 50 questions each time you use the kaplan Q bank in order to determine what score you need to be making to pass the NCLEX? Because when I do 10 questions instead of the full 50, I always do much better. Also is it necessary to do the timed mode? Another question I had was if you usually score in the 50% range on the Q banks with fifty questions, does this mean you are not ready to pass the nclex because I heard you had to make 60%? How important is it to get a nurse tech job for experience? I definintely need more experience but was just recently told by a student that she felt it was necessary in order for an employer to want to hire you especially if you do not have a long work history,which I do not bc I live with my parents who never wanted me to work since they were paying for school and wanted to be sure I passed everything. So in total i have only worked like three places for only like half a year at a time. Now it is time for my preceptorship but was wondering if I should still try to get a job during this time for extra experience.

I just got my assignment for my preceptorship on the med surg floor. I don't feel too confident about my nursing skills and can be clumsy at times, so i'm real nervous about what to expect. What kind of attitude do I need to have, such as do I ask lots of questions or am I supposed to know most everything now and that would just annoy the preceptor and in turn give me a bad grade? I really want to do well in this class. Do they grade you real tough or is this supposed to be more of a learning experience to help you? Also, what specific things should I be expecting on the med surg floor?
