New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2
yup that's true coz most of the nurses i know got jobs in NSW although not in the city but in the country but that's still good and almost 90% of them got jobs in aged care.... i also met a lot of young nurses who did not have experience coz they are accepted in LTU but they were from earlier batches. I think volunteer experience is ok. most of those without experience are hired in aged care facilities also.... to be honest it's really a game of luck as well coz i know one from ltu batch who did not have experience, who was not in the top of her class, who has had not very good feedback with placement but landed a job earlier than those with experience..... for my cousins, because we are from the province, they are volunteering while processing their papers. from the most recent batch in LTU, there are still some who did not have experience...so im not sure what's the deal with AHPRA...maybe they had volunteer experience too..... just pm me once you are enrolled in LTU coz i know some accomodation.

New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2
Based on LTU batches, and filos only---only about 2-5 didnt get a job. And it wasnt cz they couldnt find jobs. I know of about 2 who were sponsored but left their jobs cz they felt homesick ---very young nurses , fresh grads and couldnt handle the adjustments...plus they were rich kids back home.I dont know bout other schools though. The nurses become too busy to go back in the forums once thy are in oz cz they have too many things to do....In my part, ive never posted until after 2 yrs. cz there was just no time. Keep ur hopes up but always be ready for worst case scenario ---Eg. Dont expect u will find a job in 1-2 mos. although possible ,not all the time. Dont give up on ur goals....They will all come to pass. In fact, i still have 4 cousins to bring here and they are still about to take board exams. 2 have already registerd and found jobs here....

. I dont know where the jobs are....and like i mentioned some got their jobs longer than others....from the january intake of 20 filos i think only 6 are left without sponsors...most of of them got jobs in NSW.

I can only speakFor LTU bendigo cz we live in Bendigi n my husband is from iron batch 1... U cannot go on 456 if u are enrolle in a uni. They all got student visas and not business short stay cz LTU is a cricos school. My cousin who was from January 2012 intake got a job already without having to extend her visa.

So far all students that had their bridging in LTU got jobs---mostly QLD and NSW. Inknow of 2 or 3 who went back to the Philippines cz of personal issues but not b/cz they couldnt get a job. Some are lucky to get a job as soon as license is out some can take up to 3 mos before they find a job. The impt thing is not to stop applying.

if u study in a cricos school like deakin and la trobe, you qualify for 575 non award student visa....its moe expensive but does not have no further stay and you can change to a visitor visa after your 4 mos validity. the student visa gives u 1 month more after upur course duration so thats why its 4.me n my husband were on a 575 then extended as visitor then changed to 457 then permanent residency after 10 mos at work.

My kids in melbourne??
it should be easy for you coz they are already here....just as long as you have australian license to practice as a nurse, it's not aproblem getting a job in melbourne especially if you are a resident..... the challenge is for those who rquire employer sponsorship coz not all hospitals sponsor but for someone who already has the work rights.....easy as 123

New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2
to be honest, it doesn't matter....hospitals just look at your license not from which school you came from so it's very different from the PHilippines where the school matters.... bendigo is 2 hrs by train away from Melbourne and Deakin is closer to Melbourne.... either of the schools are good coz they follow the same standards required by AHPRA....probably the edge of la Trobe Bendigo is your placement is still within Bendigo while Deakin i heard puts you in different hosptials which could sometimes mean you have to look for accomodation close to that hospital if you do't want to be commuting after your 10pm shift

for what intake are you? not a lot of part time jobs here in Bendigo especially if it's not school break. It's also not feasible coz you will be at the Uni whole day and your placement is shift hours at the aged care or hospital..... most of the jobs here ask you for permanent days where you can work like if you say i can only work MOndays, etc..... you can try to look for weekend jobs but then again most of the Uni students also work weekends....so basically, competing with current students already.... maybe after your course , if you get the ealry exit you can find a job... for accomodation, i can give some suggestions..just pm me

Guys just wanted to remind everyone that processing thru an agency doesnt give u assurance for employment or for faster processing...it is a risk in fact to pay thru an agency...go for the services of idp...it is free...otherwise be sure u make the payment directly to the school by checking their official website... Friendly reminder...

hi all, it's been awhile... very busy with work now (im chabeli's gf) and chabeli is also busy with work in the hospital...for those who PMd to ask how long till he got a job, it took him almost 3 months...and realistically, that's the safe time frame to look at as well... the luckiest gets a job after first month so always remember that the hospitals don't entertain you until you have a license number.... coz you still can't strt without it... and it's taking awhile for AHPRA compared to NBV.... i will endeavor as much as possible to answer all your questions given the time...i'm just on rest day off tomorrow...

@ cioman :just redo all the immunization on the checklist then get the doctor to certify the vaccines given to you...don't worry too much about format or whatever.... you can get the swine flu vaccine here it's covered in your OSHC (overseas student health care)

the interview questions were mostly about your experience... what you usually do? citing examples when you had to make a decision? cite a specific situation where you used initiative, when you had to escalate a situation...etc , etc...
