Over Educated, and under experienced??
Go for it. That's what I plan on doing as well. I applied for an MSN for thie fall of 2008 and was considering applying to a BSN entry DNP but I didn't want to wait 4 years before I could star as a NP so I decided to go for the MSN and then go to the DNP right after I finish the MSN. I feel that the DNP is here to stay; there several around the country already and even more schools starting it in the future. I'm really happy they developed this degree. I'm definitely getting one and I'm very excited about it.

Advice on Online ADN to BSN program --inexpensive and good?
University of Wyoming is great and very affordable. I'm graduating from their RB-BSN program in a week. I've had a great time there and highly recommend it.

Doctors blackballing NPs/DNPs
I don't understand the big issue about the DNP because it's the best thing I have heard in years which will add further credibility to the profession. DNP's aren't and will never be MD's but I do feel that for a profession such as NP it's important to have a Doctors degree. Many other professions such as Pharmacy adopted the Doctors degree as a requirement and it wasn't a big deal. Why does it have to be a problem for NP's? I eventually hope to get a DNP and I feel very proud to be a part of such a pioneering initiative. I read a comment at another site that DNP isn't a four year degree and it isn't if a person already has a MSN because they take it into account the years spent to complete the MSN but if starting out with a BSN it's in fact a four year degree just like medical students who go to school for four years after their BS. I'm not comparing NP's to MD's; I'm just trying to validate the degree. There will always be people who don't agree with this degree or many other things, for example I just recently heard an MD at the break room saying that DO's get to do too much and they shouldn't because they weren't MD's. Isn't this absurd? As far as I know DO's are physicians just like MD's (again I'm not comparing MD's and DO's to NP's; I'm just trying to make a point that there are always people who will disagree). Anyways I hope you get my point.

Anyone going to University of Wyoming?
All tests are online and timed including Patho. Some classes have no tests just lots and lots of papers.

Anyone going to University of Wyoming?
I'm in the Program and I graduate in May. I have enjoyed it so far; I've had to write lots of papers but it has been doable. Instructors are great and the cost is also excellent.

Chamberlain
Hi Guys, I'm also a military wife and I'm here to tell you that if you want this degree bad enough it can be done :-) I graduated from Chamberlain in May 06 when it was still Deaconess College of Nursing and I did the entire program from Germany because that's where we are stationed. Yes it was expensive, clinical placement was a pain and I had to fly to St. Louis each semester and pay for it out of pocket, but now I'm a licensed RN and am working on my BSN at the University of Wyoming. The funny thing was that I was so used to going to St. Louis for validations and taking the ATI that when it was time for the NCLEX I went back there as well to take it and it worked for me :-) I'm so happy I did it because it was my only option and if I was starting now I would go the same route again. Good luck to you guys and stay strong! LTNurse

School of Nursing--Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center
I heard that New York won't accept Chamberlain for initial licensure because they won’t allow you to have clinical there but they will give you a license after you get one from another State. I’m not from New York and I heard that from another person so you should double check. LTNurse

Hi, Yes, I have a SS# and I'm assuming you took your NCLEX for Cali; mine was for Hawaii so is somewhat different. I really don't know much about the process in california but as I have been reading on this borad it can take a while to get results from california. Hang in there and I'm sure you'll be ok! LTNurse

The result: failed again, for the fourth time
The only thing I can tell you is do Suzanne's plan, it really works. It worked for me and I know it can work for you too if you put forth the effort, but above all start studying in English!!!! In regards to age it doesn't matter because it's never too late. I had people in my graduation class that were 47 years old, keep trying and don't give up, you'll make it in the right time. Happy studying and take care, LTNurse

Got my results!
I studied for about 2 and a half months, the first month I did the book review like Suzanne recomends and the next six weeks I did practice questions. I graduated last May so I had to do the review to get things fresh in my mind. I did so many questions and reviewed so many rationales that when I saw the exam it all looked familiar somehow or perhaps I was just used to answering those type of questions from the practice. I took mine March 15 and half of the exam are MEDS. help!
I took mine yesterday and I also had lots of meds, a couple of al that apply, some priority questions and infection control. It shut down at 75 and I don't feel good about it; I'm horrified that I failed it and my state has no quick reply. I'll have to wait about 3 weeks to find out the results. Good luck you guys that are also waiting for results. LtNurse

Took NCLEX Yesterday
I still don't have my results. I'm trying to be patient and keep busy. I was reading the posts above and read the one about many Peds questions; I noticed that I had lots of Mental Health and priority questions. Does that mean that mental health was my weakest area? I can't wait to find out the results being good or bad :-) LTNurse

Took NCLEX Yesterday
Thank you for the nice messages! I'll let you guys know about the results when I get it! I'm trying to stay busy and not think about it and I have realized that if I don't pass it's ok too; I'll move on and pass the next time for sure. Thanks again!!! LTNurse

Took NCLEX Yesterday
I took my NCLEX-RN yesterday and believe it or not; it stopped at 264; have you ever heard of that number? I have a feeling a failed it; do you guys think I should start studying again for my next time or should I wait for the official results to arrive? My State isn't on quick result so I'll have to wait 2 weeks to find out. It's so cruel of them because yesterday I spoke to a lady at the BON and she told me they already had my results (on the same day I took it) but that she couldn't tell me over the phone and that they were mailing it to me within 10 business days. I just know that I failed it; I think the computer was undecided but at 264 it decided that I wasn't doing good enough and shot down. I don't know if I have the strength to do this again; it was a nightmare :-) LTNurse
