  1. I recently started a job at an allergy & asthma clinic. I have always renewed my CPR license and, frankly, wouldn't have even dreamed it wasn't a requirement. When mentioning to my co-workers that I needed to renew my BLS soon, a couple stated that it isn't a requirement for MI. MI requires 25 ceu's with one in pain every 2 years. I am shocked that for nurses taking care of patients that have high probability of reactions, it wouldn't be required in our office. Should I mention to our office manager/doctors that I think it should be mandatory? They are so on top of things in every other category, I am just flabbergasted...
  2. It will be 3 months of studying for me when I take the CPNE in a week and I'm finally to the apathetic stage--which is a good thing for me. Just want to get it over with. Lots of info to know and careplans, PCS forms, Narrative Notes to submit for practice so don't rush it. Definitely think 2 months is doable if you have more time than weekends to study though. Good Luck!
  3. Oh my goodness! Just finished that Penn Foster Music Appreciation. Glad that one was an open book! I took piano for 11 years and I didn't know 1/4 of that stuff. Way more complex info than an introductory class should be. Glad it's over!!! :)
  4. Probably a couple people on the board who lost promotions to Excelsior grads...lol!
  5. I read the study guide a few times through, went through Rob's CPNE for a general idea of everything and tweeked his mneumonics against the study guide once more. After about the first month I started Sheri's online workshop. She is even more in depth with the critical elements so I'm adding details when I practice the mneumonics. For example: on the IV push station she says to draw the flushes & meds up so that the liquid is "crowning" at the tip to avoid any air at all and a bubble can't be made from inverting the syringe upside down, which I wouldn't have thought of. Like I said, she has saved me already with bringing attention to the little things. I am two months away from the CPNE and will decide if one month or two is needed with her as I go along. I'm finding that it took me almost a month to feel like I have a good idea of how things work and memorize the mneumonics. I am just starting to practice the scenarios with a grid I can create from memory now... When are you testing? Good luck!
  6. I did end up going with Sheri's online workshop. I am soooo glad I did! Not only are her careplan instructions clear and helpful, but she has already saved me on the lab stations with little things I had forgotten to think about. Rob's Videos are great as a starting tool but Sheri goes into more particulars. With any of them, I recommend checking against your study guide to make sure the critical elements are the same.
  7. Hmmm...seems to me that CA BRN could consider themselves partially responsible for soooo many openings for travel and staff nurses since their state doesn't have enough nurses to fill shortages. Instead of testing for desired qualifications and even making some $$ off mandatory classes for licensure (as we all know the state of CA needs), let's just say "No!" and leave our patients with frazzled nurses working short-staffed. Smart move!
  8. I haven't used any other site for practice exams except the ones Excelsior itself provides. Excelsior's practice exams were, in my opinion, worth their weight in gold. They are more like $65 or something but are worth it. I always reviewed them the morning of test and was happy I did--got all As and one B.
  9. Hi! Could anyone who has taken the CPNE and Sheri Taylor's online workshop please verify that her care plan instructions are what the CE's are looking for? Heard a couple people say it was off a little bit--as we know, "a little bit" = FAIL Thanks for the input!
  10. I did think LS2 was the hardest also but scored something like a 62 on practice test 1 and 68 on practice test 2 and got an A. I always retake the practice exams and go through notes morning of exams. Good luck!
  11. Do you know if you have to pay an enrollment fee to take their course or is it like a CLEP or Dantes thing? Studying for CPNE right now and only have one humanities to complete--YAY!!
  12. I'm also hoping to test in Mansfield, OH. I gave them a ready date for after April 1. Just waiting to hear so I can pace my studying. Let me know how it goes there and best of luck!
  13. Thanks for the encouragement everyone. Sounds like pretty straight forward to just do everything exactly the way they say to and I'll be fine!
  14. Hi--I'm a new grad doing Private Duty at a couple different cases and want to start my articulation rigt away in the fall. Someone who just graduated from Excelsior told me that you really should have floor experience, such as at an ECF, to pass CPNE. Any thoughts?
