best deal on steths I found was medisave.net or .com...engrave was free and I got it in like 4 days! I bought the Littman Classic II and I am very pleased. I had never taken a bp or put a steth in my ears before in my life and I got it on the first try!!

I had my first Hep b on Thursday..heads up, it made me really tired the next day. I am very active (a runner) very unusual for me to come home from work and nap, but I was that wiped out. I have no idea how much the cost was, they are going to bill my insurance for it all, so we will see what happens.

That is correct, I went to Jefferson County last week. They only have the records IF you had the shots at that facility. I have an appointment tomorrow to start my Hep b series/tetorifice and titer...I will post how much it cost at my family practitioner.

ya know, just not clear on if we need the steth for first sem..I started reading the Health Assessment book and it seems reasonable that we could start practicing with it for some stuff...even just on each other.

apparently it is hard to get used nursing books because students usually keep them for reference rather than sell them back...so I found best to go ahead and just suck it up and buy new. I STILL have to find time to sit down and list what is in the bundle, it is 2 boxes of books---seems to be a better deal.

Just wanted to list this information I have found, may be helpful to some. --best deal on stethoscopes I have found is medisave.net (I bought the Littmann Classic II SE) and the engrave for free. --I bought my books yesterday. I bought the "bundle" for $643 in the Jeff State book store. I will tonight, list EVERYTHING that included in the "bundle" and there individual cost so we can see what the actual value of buying the bundle is. If someone already know this, please share because the book store did not even not know what books were in the bundle! --my understanding that you can get your childhood vaccine records from the county you had them in health department (no matter how long it has been). I am calling on that today and will post what i find for Jefferson County.

my fall class schedule just came in the mail...looks like part-time program, our first two classes may be on Saturday, wonder if that means we will get to do a clinical during the first semester during the week....does anyone know??

You say "Shelby" for part-time....it is my understanding that our classes can be at either campus for the part-time program, is that what you understood? Orientation is at Jeffersosn campus.

nice to see some more thirty somethings starting nursing school....wasn't that a show!

Do you think you will be able to work after the first year...as has been mildly suggested? or is it just too much? That is my major concern with the program, not being able to work.

finally got back in touch with the lady who called me from JS. She was an adviser on the Jefferson campus. She said they had a "timing issue" and were having to call people to offer them places in the part-time program. She did not say if this was the case for everyone, or just some people---so, you may get a phone call over the next few days...I would be sure your correct number is on file!

was the call from some lady with a strange name from the "student activities department" or something like that....someone left me a message. I have been trying all morning to call back but have not been able to get anyone. This lady is not my adviser though. The person who got IN the part-time, how many points did you have??? THANKS!!!

If anyone gets their letter this week PLEASE POST!!!!! and the orientation dates or anything else important in the letter!!! I will be out of town for a WEEK and will not have anyone checking my mail. I will be able to check email....So if the letters come, I will have to TRY to call the advisers. You can sign up for the Hoover Fire Dept CPR class the first Saturday of Aug on the City of Hoover website. I DID GET A CONFIRMATION email regarding my registration, so you may want to check. [email protected] is the email of the person who responded to my registration.

i found this on the city of hoover website... the city of hoover fire department conducts cpr training classes on the first, second and third saturdays of each month. these classes are open to the general public and are held at fire station seven, located at 100 inverness center parkway off of highway 280 near valleydale road. the classes are not held at the hoover public safety center. ******* the saturday, june 20th, 2009 course is full. *******there are different levels of cpr training. you should choose the class and time that best suits your needs. course descriptions: heartsaver/aed cpr: this class targets all participants other than professional health care providers. this course provides cpr training for infant, child, and/or adult resuscitation and use of the automated external defibrillator (aed). this class is held on the second and third saturdays of each month at 9:00 am lasting approximately 3 hours. this class is free to hoover residents and businesses. there is a $20 charge for non-residents and businesses. health care provider cpr: this class is designed for a health care provider such as an rn, emt, etc. this course requires completion of a written examination, and provides cpr training for infant, child, and adult resuscitation. this class is held on the first saturday of each month at 9:00 am and lasts approximately 4 hours. this class is free to hoover residents and businesses. there is a $20 charge for non-residents and businesses. persons needing health care provider cpr certification may also take the online version at: http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=3019553. upon completion of the online course, bring the printed certificate to any of our scheduled classes for skills testing and completion of the course. this is a very cost effective way of renewing your health care provider cpr. we do not charge any fees for skills testing only.

I know there are some cheaper ways to do it...I think it is a convenience factor to go to the Red Cross and take there class that is pre-arranged and scheduled months in advance on a certain day. PLUS some of us have to do it on a Saturday.

I bought the book "calculate with confidence" on ebay..an old copy and just started it. I also bought The series Nursing Made Incredibly Easy in "intro to Pharmacology" and "Health Assessment". I have started working the math book and am picking through the other. I AM IN FOR THE CPR IN HOOVER IF YOU GET A CLASS TOGETHER.....PLS let me know PM me! Would it be a health care workers certified course? You can also do then with the Red Cross. I have the Person who coordinates the classes card in my car...I will post later. She was at my gym a few weeks ago doiing a community class. I think she has a Health Care worker class in July and I think I remember her saying it was around $75 I have applied for 1st choice night program because I could really use to keep working, but my company is about to go through a territory re-allignment and my job may be on the line....so, my days may just be free again....

do the shoes have to be solid white? Do they have to have a back? are the Dankso professional clog or the birkenstock with the back acceptable?

Are you still in the program? what else did you need besides uniforms? what are the shoe requirement?

how do they run...true to size, big etc??? Are you selling it or giving it away?

Hey All, What are the uniform requirements for Jeff State? What do you need besides clothing and shoes, ie stethoscope et? I am thinking if I start buying stuff this summer, it will be easier on the wallet than all at once!
