Information on Laparoscopic Fundoplasty
Hi there and thankyou... I definitely tried that, but then it comes up with different "added" words, which I don't understand because I don't know the procedure lol...truly. It says Nissen or Esophagogastric or Transverse or Belsey...I don't know what any of those are, we have not learned any of that yet. I had also looked at the fundoplication. However, when I asked my instructor which one my patient had or if they were the same, she said fundoplasty. Sorry to be a pain... Thanks:redbeathe:redbeathe:redbeathe

Information on Laparoscopic Fundoplasty
Hello.... I just got the information for the patient I will be taking care of tomorrow in clinical. She had a Laparoscopic Fundoplasty for treatment of GERD...I am trying to get my research completed and find nothing at all in my Med-Surge book, PDA, or online that gives me the information I need to know. I am looking for a credible, detailed explanation of the procedure, potential complications, discharge teaching...I just can't seem to find anything. I can't believe this information is not in my med-surge book. I did try looking up GERD and Hiatal hernia to see if that route would lead me to my information, but no luck If anyone knows of a reputable site I can go to for this information, I would greatly appreciate your input :) 2 more semesters to go! YaY Thank you, Dana

Looking for a "Nursing School Mentor"
Wow! Thank you for such a fast reply! I live in Michigan....have 2 children; one we just took to college a week ago...wow that was hard, and my other is 7 years old. Yes I know, I love a challenge :) So, are you done with school and have your degree, or where are you exactly on your journey? I guess the first thing I would like to is this: I hope I can explain it the way I think it....lol When I took my pre-reqs, many times I would find myself half way thru a class and hit some ahh haa moment that could have saved me so much time and frustration if I had of reached it earlier.....Have you had any of these "ahh-ha" moments in nursing school? Maybe little lightbulbs that were a bit slow to go off? Thanks for your willingness to correspond with me! Dana

Looking for a "Nursing School Mentor"
hello, i have finished all of my pre-reqs and got my acceptance into nursing school ....yeah!!! i am hoping to find someone that would like to mentor me thru some of the areas i may be puzzled by, or even just give me some different ways of looking at things. i work very hard on my studies and know that i will make it thru with flying colors...i refuse not to; however, i just think it would be really neat and possibly even more educational to have someone who has been there/ done that and is willing to share insight....never answers, just insight. i also think that this may be an opportunity to form some really neat friendships. lord knows i will have no real social life to speak of for the next 2 years.... hope this peaks some interest, and that someone out there thinks, like me, that this would be a neat idea. thank you. dana future amazing rn:redbeathe class of 2011

Nursing theory
Thank you very much for your reply.... So, am I correct in defining nursing theory as we look at historical nurses and practices as the way they approached treating their patient? Whether it be environment, diet, comfort, etc.....is that an example of theory....and if someone were to ask you why is it important that we understand theory....how would you answer? I answered "It is important that we understand where we came from to understand where we are headed and what things we can take with us for the betterment of our patients?" Was that way off?

Nursing theory
hello everyone! i got my acceptance letter to nursing school about 3 weeks ago and am so very happy, scared, and all of the above!!! i decided to enroll in the summer session of the foundations of nursing class. i don't know why, but i am having such a difficult time understanding what exactly "theory" is? i feel so dumb (yes that's it) asking that question....but i just don't know that i have a good, solid understanding of what nursing theory is and isn't and why it is so important? i want to understand and have done alot of reading, but am hoping someone may have a particular way of explaining this so that i can truly understand it. thank you sooooo very much smiles dana:heartbeat

Hi, I'm new and I wanted to know if I should take Chm1 & AP1 together...
Hi there and welcome :) I have to agree with the idea of starting out slow and just getting your feet wet. You can think about it this way ok......If you start slow, get a feel for what you can handle and what is really required in these classes.....that is a good thing! What is the worst thing that can come from that? >>>>>You're a little longer the finish...and it is just a "little"....NOW....if you take on a full load and find yourself struggling....what is the worst thing that can happen there? ALOT.....not only will your GPA fall, but you will likely end up having so much pressure on you, that you really wont get the benefit and education these classes are designed for....and it is all forever building. You are so very smart for considering all of this before making your decisions.......way to go! Good luck to you.

Looking for a good microbiology website
Thank you very much! With that one and another that I found and will share, I think I am all set. :) I don't know how to paste the link so if anyone is looking for an EXCELLENT Microbiology site... google...South Caroline School of Medicine....when the search page comes up, select Departments under the first SCU.....then you will see a search box on the actual SCU site...type in some form of bacteria or something and then you will be to the actual search page you need to do all the rest of your research and exploring. Sorry for making you go the long way, but the it's worth the drive...:) Dana:redbeathe

Looking for a good microbiology website
Hi everyone.... I am looking for a good microbiology website that has lots of visuals of the different microbes we have to identify in our Lab practical. I have found amazing websites for A&P II but seem to come up short on the micro end of things.... Thank you Dana:jester:
