  1. I'm not in NS yet (next year) but it can be very cathartic for some people to cry. They can release their emotion and then be able to go on and function. I recently had to defer my enrollment to NS for a year b/c of family issues and although I am not a cryer in general, I did cry quite a bit about that. It's probably a very good thing that I did too b/c holding all those feelings in could have been very unhealthy for me.
  2. Silas, feel a little stupid but can't figure out how to pm you if at all possible but is the Lowell program comparible to Boston?
  3. Wow, Silas, thank you and I am going to PM you.
  4. Hi everyone, this is a q for everyone from MA. I was accepted at a couple of assoc. degree programs here in MA and I was supposed to start this fall but b/c of an issue with my so called support network I have had to defer my enrollment for a year. At any rate, what I was originally going to do was get my ASN and immediately take an on line RN - BSN program thru UMass which would take approximately another year and a half. I'm starting to believe that I may be better off just going to UMass Boston for the full BSN program. I have heard that it's next to impossible to get a job with an ASN recently and I planned to get my BSN anyway and it's going to take about the same time b/c I've already covered all my science and liberal arts courses. What do you think? Does anyone here go to UMass? How's your experience been? I'd love to go to UMass Amherst but it's too far away and Northeastern would take an additional year so this is my only four year option. I'd love to hear any advice and any UMass stories. Thanks!!
  5. Thank you so much to all of you. I can't tell you what those words of compassion and encouragement meant at such a rotten time. I've already started working on getting new plans for childcare including the respite which was a brilliant suggestion. I'm trying very hard to look at this philosophically and remind myself I willl have extra time to fight to get one son into a private school and another into a college with a program for special needs students and then I have a daughter applying to other colleges so maybe this happened for a reason but I will not give up. I worked my tush off for the past three years to maintain a 3.9 average in all my classes including A & P and Micro and the rest. I'm very proud of what I've achieved so far and I'm very serious about becoming a nurse so I will absolutely be there next year with bells on. I'm a little freaked out over being yet another year older but I know I'm not alone and I appreciate your messages! Thanks again for all the great messages, it did make me feel better!
  6. I was due to start my assoc. Rn FT program today. My support system to help with my four kids (three on the autistic spectrum) dropped out from under me literally at the last minute. To say I am devastated would be a huge understatement. I've been crying off and on all day. The good news is that they've deferred my enrollment for one year and I'm all set to start next year. I'm still worried about my loans however plus financial aid. So, I guess any good thoughts spread my way would be greatly appreciated. Has this happened to anyone here? I'm also an older student so I'll be 46 when I start next year now. Am I the oldest new student here? Someone please say I'm not alone!!
  7. Hi, I start an ADN program in the fall and immediately after grad. I plan to take an accelerated BSN program. Even though I won't begin working as a nurse for three years I am extremely discouraged by all the stories I'm hearing about new grads. not being able to get jobs. It's making me wonder if I should still go into nursing and I'm going into it for the right reasons not just $ etc. This is something I've wanted to do for a very long time and I'm finally there and now I'm afraid I won't be able to get a job. I'm a young 45 but still 45 and I'm also afraid this is going to be a mitigating factor. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.
  8. Thanks for the replies. Actually my ex lives with me and the kids (odd, I know but it works) so I have his help. But, I also tend to approach school like work and I do the majority of my studying during the day as well and I plan to do extra lab skills practices during that time too. I can study at night, ok. I can tune them out for the most part but I do prefer to study during the day. Thanks again!
  9. Hi everyone, I start my ASN in Sept. and I was wondering if those of you with kids could share with me when you study etc? I won't be working so I won't have to worry about that. Thanks!
  10. I'm not a student yet, I start in September. But, I've been a patient and seems to me you are the kind of nurse I would want around me and I think your actions were brave and personify what a nurse should be - caring. I wouldn't want that particular staff nurse near me again. I understand the implications of what happened but regardless, I think someone needed to take charge and alleviate this patient's pain. Sadly, it was not the person who should have been on top of this. I hope I never get that jaded.
  11. Thanks for all the great advice. I will be going to the book store this weekend and picking a couple of things up. Thanks again
  12. Hi, I am brand new here. I'm starting my ASN in September and I was wondering what you all would recommend reading over the few months prior to starting. I was thinking of brushing up on A & P and maybe reading some med. terminology? Anything else? Thanks in advance!
