It was a narc and they did not do a drug test. They just went ahead and fired me. So I now have on my record that I was fired due to med discrep and they said they have to turn me over to the Oklahoma Board of Nursing. They couldn't tell me how long it would be before I heard from the board or anything. I am an LPN and am supposed to start career ladder RN program in August. Does anyone know about how long it will be before my hearing?

What happens if a person gets caught stealing narcotics? What if they say they just don't know and can't account for them? Would it be better to tell them that they took them? What tends to happen in the situation of telling the manager that they took them?

so did you get caught? If so how did you handle it and what happened? I am a new nurse and don't know much about this stuff.

I have been a nurse since January. I was placed on suspension until monday when I meet with my manager and human resources. I was covering for a nurse at lunch. I gave one of her pt pain medication. When she came back from lunch her pt claimed she never got any pain medication from me. I went into the room with that nurse and told her this is the pt I gave the med to. Anyway, she put in an incident report even though nothing happened. My manager made me sign a paper sating that I am on suspension due to medication administration discrepencies. So now I am wondering if when I have been pulling my meds and i turn around to put them on the counter and someone says hey can I grab something real quick they aren't signing me out and they are grabbing things under my number. No matter what it is my fault. Does anyone have any advice??????????? I would appreciate anything!!!!

Thank you for your information. That is what I was taught to do in school. I feel like I am a new nurse and they are trying to take advantage of me or "bully" me into doing things that I am supposed to just pass on because they don't want to do the work. Anyway, I do just like you said get them oriented, comfortable (pain, warmth etc.), do neuro checks and vital signs, something to eat or drink depending on their diet and do a short narrative in the progress notes then pass it on. Thank you guys for taking the time to give a new nurse needed information that you don't learn in school. I love being able to come here and always be able to get reliable information and different points of view!!!!

There is a problem that goes on at the facility where I work and I am certain it happens everywhere else too. I just wanted to get some opinions and find out how other facilities handle this situation. Say you are working until 3P or 7P. You find out you are going to get an admit which is totally fine. Well the admit doesn't come up to your floor until either 2:30p or 6:30p you know 30 to 45 minutes before shift change. Do you get the pt situated in the room, get the vitals, assess the breathing and pain status orient pt to room, get the standard things like a plastic cup with ice water, tissues, basin etc. and once the pt is situated in the room pass it on in report that the initial assessment and admit paperwork needs to be done. I am a new nurse so I am still figuring out how they do things at different places. Anyway, the manager for this facility told me that yes we get the pt situated in the room and oriented to the room get the vital signs and then we pass them on to next shift who will do the admit assessment and all of the admit paperwork. Any opinions or methods at other facilities anyone would like to share with me? I appreciate all time and effort people make forming responses to all of the questions on here.

I had an RN student shadowing me today. We put an air mattress, I believe it is called a prime air mattress one side is plastic and one side has material on it and it goes home with the patient and they can air it up with a hair dryer or bicycle tire pump, on the bed and I started to put the linens on. He told me that they were taught that when using an air mattress you don't put linens on the bed. I haven't ever heard of that has anyone else???

I am a new nurse and I was wondering if someone would take the time to tell me how to properly pull air out of an I.V. line through a port with a syringe. I have also seen people do something with turning the bag of fluid upside down to remove air???? Can anyone walk me through these two things? I appreciate any help I can get. Nicole
