Hoping to transfer to the RNICU...how do I make my app/cover letter stand out?
I'm not sure how much I can help you-I am a new grad starting in the NICU next month. I will say, I had a lot of life experience that didn't really fit into the scope of a resume, so I mentioned it in my cover letter. I figure that is one of the first insights they have into who you are as a person, and if you leave all of that for the interview, you might not get the chance. I also made sure make my interest well-known to the recruiter for the position, asking questions and such. I would definately go into detail in the responsibilities section you mentioned, but also maybe briefly mention that in your cover letter? something along the lines of that is the part you've enjoyed most of your current position? hope that helps! Good luck :) Danielle

HCC Applicants for Spring 2010
Hmm...I know our class and the morning DM class were able to retake it. The first exam she yelled at us and said that people in our class were emailing your class for what was on the test...I'm still wondering who it was. But she made it clear that she didn't think it was her teaching in any way. Your clinical sounds great! I'm at St joes in tampa - it's pretty cool too. Our teacher is great as well, she is the instructor for the morning class.

Our teacher was good too, and the test was a fair one, which was nice! I'm hoping I did well, to offset my grade on our last exam. She gave us a retake today, but I opted out...I figured what I would raise that grade I would lose on my psych grade...but most of the class did retake it. I'm curious to see her next week...her last email to us was a little chilly! How is your clinical going?

That's funny, she mentions you guys here and there. I don't think she is fond of us at the moment, so I don't want to know what she says about us :) We had our Psych exam today, we had ****, who did you guys have?

HCC Applicants for Spring 2010
Hi! I am in the fall NP1 class, here are my 2 cents :) The best thing I did was get ahead with the med calculations...everyone else was stressing over learning the calculation, and all I had to study was the medication chapter in Potter and Perry. I ended up doing great on that test where most of the class was retaking it. And to be honest...it has gotten a LOT harder since, so it was great that I started off on a good note :) Definately get the Kee book and do the first eight chapters...you'll be ahead. Danielle

Hillsborough Community College Fall 2009
Hi! I'm not Purplestang, but I am in my first semester on the dale mabry campus...as far as which instructor, if you are set on wanting the morning session, you don't have a choice. There is one teacher for the morning and one for the afternoon...I have a few opinions but I'd rather not post them on here. If you want to message me I will give them! :) Danielle

Hi! I am a first semseter student on the DM campus. Congrats on you guys that got in :) As for attendance, you don't have to attend class, but my Professor gives extra points here and there in class and if you are absent, you don't get them. And believe me, you want them for your tests! As for clinical, you aren't allowed to miss any. If you have to, and know ahead of time, it is likely you can work something out to make it up. You may have to pay to do so, however...I think it's about $70. For the fall semester they waived the fee due to the swine flu (they didn't want people coming to clinical sick to avoid paying). I don't know what they'll do for the spring. Hope that helps...I'd be happy to answer any other questions you may have! Danielle

hmm...so you are in plant city. this was the dm campus, and the guy i spoke with on the phone didn't seem to have a clue about there. it stinks b/c i'm 40 minutes from campus with 3 kids. i really don't want to drag them there without knowing if i can get it done. ugh. oh well... thanks for the info!

Hi fourhundred...i'm in the afternoon class with Keating, and she is having us wear our uniforms. She sent an email on hawkmail with all the info. Are you in that class??

Hillsborough Community College Fall 2009
I'm in DM days so I can't help you, our first class is a clinical day and we are required to have reviewed a whole bunch of skills already, and have to wear our uniform. Good luck to you guys :)

Hillsborough Community College Spring 2009
hmm...i'm not sure either. I never received anything like that. Although, they had about 30% of the fall class wanting to switch campuses, so maybe they are wanting to try to avoid that by making sure they know which campus you prefer.

St. Petersburg College/HCC --Florida RN Programs
Hi! I am starting HCC's nursing program this fall and wanted to give my 2 cents regarding prereqs...I took a&p 1 and 2 online through USF last summer, and was thinking you might be able to find the math course you need online through a different school. you don't have to take all of them at whichever school you apply to. I did apply to spc, but they were saying i missed a prerequisite (which I didn't)...I never pushed it though because I found out i was accepted to HCC which was my first choice. one thing I will say is whichever school you apply to, follow up and check up on them that they have everything. HCC couldn't find half my transcripts because they were in my maiden name (even though they had it), and SPC kept saying I didn't have courses completed that I did. Hope that Helps and good luck! Hillsborough Community College Fall 2009
lactnet - I was accepted for this fall, and received a letter in the mail, in a normal letter sized envelope. Definately don't be expecting a phone call! I can't even imagine a school doing it the way this person told you! Good luck!

Just out of curiosity which hospital did you choose? Which UCH was it? And where are Memorial and T&C? Sorry for all the questions, just trying to think ahead to when we get our list...

Hillsborough Community College Fall 2009
Hi! I am going to Dale Mabry, in the 1-4 pm class. I was originally accepted to plant city but was able to switch ( i live in new port richey so the commute would have been crazy). I actually went this afternoon and bought my scrubs and shoes. I'm going on vacation for a week after the 4th and figured if i could get this out of the way then i can focus on everything else we need to get done after i get back. Which campus are you on?
-
Hillsborough Community College Spring 2009
i can't speak for everyone who wanted to switch, but anyone i spoke with about it was given a different campus than they requested (including me). and the director was saying they've never had so many people want to switch before. just kinda makes me think there was some error...
-
Hillsborough Community College Spring 2009
NewGoal - no she didn't talk about spring at all. i think she was too overwhelmed with the 30 people who wanted to change their campus! i really think there was some sort of error that caused that to happen!
-
Hillsborough Community College Spring 2009
That's my concern - I know she was saying new balance sneakers as an example of a good pair, but they all have mesh air holes and the edging isn't leather...left me a little worried! LOL at the boots! Fourhundred - what campus are you on and what class? i was plant city but got switched, so i'm now in dale mabry's afternoon class.

Hillsborough Community College Spring 2009
Hi all! I hope everyone that was accepted enjoyed orientation! I was wondering what everyone was thinking of getting for shoes....I'm debating between the sneakers and actual nursing shoes....if we get sneakers is it ok if there is mesh on them here and there??
