I don't mean to be the carrier of bad news, but here it goes... The job market in NY for ADN's is very hard right now (new grad ADN myself). Most hospitals in the NYC metro area require or prefer BSN's. Not saying that they won't hire ADN's they will if they have experience. So my advice to you is take your NCLEX in Mississippi, get your experience out there and do a RN-BSN or RN-MSN while you work out there. Once your done, get NYS endorsed and start looking for jobs. Now if you're looking to live and work in the upstate NY area that's a whole different ballpark.

Hey everyone I work @ LIJ and just finished my nursing program at Nassau Community College. I'm taking my boards within the next 3 weeks. I've been networking around and seems as if I won't get hired without a BSN, gotta admit I'm kinda bummed. Even if you work here the recruiters don't call back. Anyways all advice is appreciated.

Hey everyone, Just looking for some advice. I worked 3 years at St. Francis as Nurse Extender (PCA) an loved it but unfortunately had to leave because they are now only hiring BSN's. I transferred over to LIJ as a telemetry tech in hopes that I would get hired but according to what I've heard if you don't know someone you won't get hired, and my manager pretty much told me they're not even looking at ADN applications & that i should just work as a tele tech till i complete my BSN which has me kinda bummed out. Anyway the question is does anyone know about any hospitals hiring ADN's? Have you gotten hired? And what's your experience been? All help an suggestions as to what I can do are welcome and appreciated. Thanks :)

Yeah I am from NY and I have a 3.7 GPA....but I really don't think they look in to that that much....more or less what matters to them is that you pass your HESI exam....I also have a few pre-reqs done .... But like I said the most important thing with them is that you pass your HESI and have the $$$ to pay the school

So I got accepted to the ADN program at my local community college in NY and got my clinical's really close to home (5mins away). I also went out to Cali to check out West Coast, and passed my HESI. I've done more digging on West Coast and I found out that they're pre-requisite classes are non-transferable to cal state school's or any state school due to the fact that it is only ACICS accredited (Basically accredited as a trade school). So if you want to do your masters you would have to re-take all your pre requisites, or do it at WCU where they are starting to put together a Nurse practitioner program. I'm having a major debate, I love Los Angeles and I really love Cali, I really have nothing against West Coast the people are great it's just that I'm not so sure it's worth it if it's non-transferable when my ultimate goal is to be a NP. Then I could just stick it out and finish up my nursing and get my RN home, and invest all that money I'd be spending at WCU towards my masters and other things. LOL I hate being a confused teenager (almost adult lol) that is really indicisive. Anyways please give me your feedback on this situation, and if there is anyone in the BSN program already please tell me if you feel it's worth the 100k??

Well I passed the test and all but now I'm really hesitant to go to WCU because I got accepted to the ADN program at the community college I attend....WCU is a lot of money and I'm not sure If I wanna incur in $100,000 of debt before I'm 23

I'm enrolled to start on august 31st, and according to my guidance counselor I will be starting at the new NoHo campus...

I enrolled for the term starting august 31st....the people are really great....the school is pricey tho, if you have no credits towards the BSN program it cost $116,000(just be aware that this is all inclusive, text books, scrubs....) I have most my general ed classes completed but I have yet to find out how much my bill is gonna be....

Okay so I passed my HESI exam and got enrolled to start the BSN program august 31st. I'm trying to figure out the whole financial aid thing, I know this might be personal but I was wondering which lenders you guys picked out and which ones actually approved you?? I'm considering Wells Fargo.....seems pretty decent.... Anyways any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Yeah I actually do have the study book, and I'll be in LA for 4 days I'm taking the test on a Thursday, the dean of admissions said that if I do fail it I can retake it the Monday before I leave. Sitting down for 4hours does sound tedious, but I think I actually rather take my time that rush through it. I actually just finished studying the math section right now and did all the sample questions...later on I'll do the practice test. I'm trying to memorize metric conversions since I've heard there is a lot of them on the test. I have reviewed vocab, grammar, and the reading comprehension and I feel a bit confident about it. How many days of studying did you put in to it?? How many do you recommend? Thanks so much for the help =]

Had you studied for your test the first time around??? What did you feel was the most difficult thing? I'm really nervous about this and I want to pass it on my first try since I'm coming out from NY.

I'm really glad they are getting accredited hopefully they will get the NLN accreditation soon, has anyone heard if they are working on it?? Anyways I'm coming in to LA on April 30th to take my HESI....does anyone have any helpful tips towards passing the test that they can give me???? Oh and who is starting at LA campus in august????

To all those that will be taking the HESI soon, my best friend that lives in Cali took the test last saturday and failed it with a 78.91....anyways she told me some stuff that was on the test that I wasn't aware of .....for example you have to know your ANATOMICAL TERMS like proximal, distal, anterior, posterior, medial, lateral etc., And for the math you need to know metric conversions. I'm really hoping they take all my pre-reqs so that reduces my costs a bit cuz $93,000 sounds better than $116,000 any time!!

Well I have taken Anatomy and Physiology, General Psych, Soc.1, English 101 & 102, Statistics, Intro to human communication which hopefully will count as my speech, cultural anthropology, statistics, remedial algebra, and a bunch of other stuff....so I'm not that behind and I'm taking microbiology this summer =) I'm not a CA resident sadly so I cant do the missing ones at one of the state schools =/ But at least I'm a bit ahead....It sucks that they are not taking any of your classes.

yeah i have done fafsa...i haven't filed for this year yet though but i'm gonna get on that soon!!! i have heard of unsubsidized and subsidized loans but i have never applied for one. i know this might be to personal but how much of sub and unsubsidized loans did you get?? and how much was your pell grant?? that is if you don't mind telling me? and then just another question out of curiosity are you taking all the courses at wcu or did you have a few pre-reqs??

At first I was worried with the HESI test....but now that I've been studying, and actually took the time to read the study guide it seems really easy...now my only concern is being able to get a loan, I know I will have some financial aid but I have no clue how much...I don't have high income well cuz I'm only 20 with a dead end job so I don't think I'll be able to do the monthly installments...I'm flying in to Cali on April 30th to take my HESI test and for my financial Aid Apointment....so I guess I'll see how it goes from there....Anyways keep me posted and tell me how everything is going!!

I just applied to nassau's nursing program last week, but I'm a suffolk county resident, I really hope this doesn't affect my chances. I know this is a very competitive program....I'm really crossing my fingers that I get in...I applied to farmingdale and I am taking the NLN pax test soon...which I am very nervous about....can anyone give me any input on the test and how hard it is?? I'm also looking in to Molloy....anyways good luck to you all!!!
