I coincidently ran into the mail lady at my door today because the package needed a signature. I'm so excited and nervous. I can't wait to start. Just look out for the mailman because a signature is needed for delivery.

Today I spoke with the young lady who's processing the applications, and she said that we should hear something from them in early April. Soooo I guess we'll just play the waiting game...lol

No to both questions...I asked Dr.Cruise however she didn't give me a clear answer on when we'll be notified. I know there's one LPN in my Patho class who has to retake the teas, but I'm not sure if they'll extend the LPN-RN deadline for those who have yet to pass. I PRAY that there's enough applicants for the program, if not I guess I'll have to find out what my Plan B option would be.

Yes I am an LPN, I'm currently taking Pathophysiology at the Germantown campus, since my A&P classes are over 5 years old. I hope I get in, I really need to complete my RN ASAP

So I'm trying to relocate to Florida, but the only thing that's scaring me is the Level 2 Background Checks that are required by most facilities. I totally understand that a facility, patient, and the patient's family should be able to TRUST the nurses on staff, HOWEVER, I don't think that I shouldn't be reprimanded CONSTANTLY for a mistake that I'd made 8 years ago (Charge: Petty Larceny)...And after all, if the State of Florida Department of Health was OK with approving my license to practice as a nurse, then WHY would it be a huge problem for a facility to hire someone with a blemish or two on their record. I have some interviews scheduled, however, I'm afraid to make that trip to Florida just to be rejected because of my past criminal history...Goodness, I don't know what to do.

Well if I had the chance to do it over again, I would just go straight through with the RN program, given the fact that our program started in Sept 2009 and ended in Sept/Oct 2010, but it's June 2011...and I still have no job...my hospital and like many others would rather take a new grad RN over a new grad or experienced LPN any day...like I said before, the vast majority of my classmates still have no job, and the ones who are employed as an LPN moved away from the DC metro area.

Yeah...I guess it is a little soon for me to be worried about no job offers, but I am ready to get out of the DC/MD/VA area...I don't mind working for LTC, and I've already started looking for jobs in Florida, and I'm going to make a list of every facility that I think I can work for and take it from there...and Yes I'm gonna have some interviews lined up before I actually move....THANKS FOR THE ADVICE!!!!!!!!! And about that "REAL NURSE" comment...that's hilarious, because I guess me being a "FAKE NURSE" I shouldn't have to tell one of the "REAL NURSES" at my job that a patient should use their cane on the AFFECTED SIDE, because I'm not a "REAL NURSE".....I swear I'm so tired of the unnecessary egos...it's just like the PA vs. MD mess....get over yourself

so i passed my boards on april 12,2011, and i got my lpn license in dc...however it's mid june and i still have no job offers. i currently work as a er tech at a small dc hospital, and when i was hired (back in nov 2010) i was told that i would be hired as an lpn for my unit....well as soon as i received my license my hospital changed their tune and refused to hire me as an lpn because they're "phasing lpn's out in the er" because they want to have "magnet status" even though there are still 3 lpn currently working on my unit and neither one of them have yet to get a move on to obtaining their rn degree...even though they know that i already have a bs degree and a lpn license and i started my application process with excelsior, and that i want to get my rn done asap so i can continue to a crna degree...i'm so frustrated, because i need my lpn experience and i realized that i hate my job because i feel like i'm under a glass ceiling since i'm only 'ass'isting the nurses rather than working on the same level...i tried to contact the head nursing administrators but no one will respond to my calls or emails...ugh...i'm to the point where i feel sick to my stomach with my job...i feel like my days are numbered. anyways, i've come up with a plan to relocate to florida. i just applied for endorsement, and i'm playing the waiting game now...i know there are some who say that the lpn job market sucks in fl, but i think i have a much better opportunity in fl than here in dc...i mean dc only has about 8 hospitals and fl has more than 100 (i think...lol)...hopefully my lack of lpn experience won't hinder me and that my recent er experience will help me. the funny thing is that i have a feeling that when i come back to visit dc, my hospital will still have those same lpn's working there, and i will already have my rn degree...talk about "magnet status"...yeah right...lol

I finished the program in October 2010, and I passed the Nclex in April 2011...I know that's a huge gap but that school put us through so much just to get be cleared to take the Nclex...anyways, I must say there are very few jobs in DC for new grad LPNs...I don't have a job as an LPN...most of my classmates are still without a job or still working as techs and cna's...I still work as a tech because my hospital don't want to hire anymore new LPN's because they're "phasing LPN's out"...so just be aware that program and the job search is not going to be easy and I definitely wish you the best.

I felt the same way...I would be on the brink of an anxiety attack just from talking about it...Thanks to my last minute studying and a 2 minute prayer just before I clicked the start button on my test, I was cool as a cucumber...but if you just try to relax yourself and DON'T OVERTHINK the questions, then you'll be just fine.

I've been hearing about the "new" changes to the Nclex-Pn in April 2011, so I was anxious to get a test date on or before March 31...make a long story short, I took my exam on 4/12/2011...and let me tell you I was so nervous...I just knew in my head that I failed because I was bored, irritated, not focused, sleepy , AND hungry while I was taking the exam, so I was kinda rushing through the questions...AND ON TOP OF THAT...the computer made me take ALL 205 questions...lol. After the exam I was sort of discouraged, and one of my classmates told me to do the Pearson Trick to find out about my score...So the next day, 4/13/2011, I went to my state board of nursing website and looked up my name, and to my surprise, my license was ACTIVE...YAY ...and today, I received my license in the mail. (fists pumps)...lol From what I can remember, the majority of my questions were about: Prioritizing Very few calculations Delagating Safety Patient Teaching ****Oh Yeah...I didn't study until the day before the exam**** Next stop...RN School

MJMOON has some very valid points. I graduated May 2009 with a BS degree and I just finished an LPN program this month (currently studying for my NCLEX)....I chose this path because...1.) The LPN Program was FREE...2.) The Accelerated BSN Programs are WAAAAAY too expensive for me, I ran out of financial aid in my last semester so I know I wouldn't have been able to attend school without paying out of pocket....3.) I could work as an LPN and attend school to for my RN license....4.) By the time I graduated, I missed the deadlines for the RN schools in my area. But I think the LPN route is a good way to get you foot in the door, HOWEVER if you have the time and the money to complete an ABSN program, then I would suggest you go that route...and if you don't have the economic means for an ABSN you can focus on an ADN, because I think that ADN & BSN graduates make about the same amount of money, and you could always complete your BSN or MSN online while you're working as an RN.

@ Nursetobe745, Fundamentals Nov 09-Jan 10. Adult Health (Med/Surg) was March 10-May 10. Mental Health June 10-Aug 10. Pediatrics and Maternal Aug 10-Sept 10. I think I gave you the correct timeframes....I'm going off of my memory. We didn't have a clinical for Geronotlogical Nursing.

@ lifedream: thank you soooooo much, and i pray that you'll receive your acceptance letter. @nursetobe: even though my uniforms were covered by my workforce development grant, i still purchased extra uniforms from forman mills in temple hills (i didn't go to the one on rhode island ave because it was still under construction)....the shirt and pants together only cost $7.99, and i think they also sold white lab coats, but i'm not sure about the burgundy jackets....and i also saw some white nursing shoes at kmart for $17.99...i know the uniform shop they recommend is ridiculously expensive, so i suggest you take my advice to save a ton of money...as long as your scrubs and lab coats are white and your clinical jacket is burgundy you'll be ok. about the absences....you can only miss 2 days per class....for example, if you miss 2 days from anatomy then you'll be ok...or if you miss 2 days from nutrition, then you'll be ok....from my understanding classes that have a lecture and clinical component are separate, so if you miss 2 days for fundamentals lecture and miss 2 days for fundamentals clinical then you'll be ok....i'm not sure if the 2 absences are excused or unexcused....every time i had a doctors note to leave early or arrive late for clinicals my instructor told me don't worry about it and that she trust me...so i don't think all of the instructors are that nice about it....but i'm sure if you have a good excuse for your instructor then they probably won't count it against you....trust me, i know there are many of my classmates who missed more than 2 days, and they made it to the finish line. about classes...you will have 1 class per day...we had anatomy on mon&weds, fundamentals on tues&thurs, and nutrition on fridays....i'm not even gonna lie to you, i think we had a test everyday

I was in the same situation and I felt the exact the same way you do right now...I don't think that it's that competitive, but I don't know the actual number of applicants for my class. But I hope and pray that you'll receive your acceptance letter. You said, "All I need is a chance and I'll run with it." That's my motto.
