Biol 189 scares me!
man. i loved bio 189. i don't understand why ppl dont like it. its real science. its not dumed down. if it's been a while since you've taken it it might be a steep learning curve. if you put in the time, and try not to focus on memorizing, but rather focus on understanding concepts you will do better. but i liked it so much i went on to take 196. dont be scared of it. if you like science...i mean really like it enough to catch yourself thinking about it outside of class, not just getting thru it to get into nursing school...you'll be fine. if science is hard for you get a tutor. they are plentiful. try the TRIO office. i think that's free for some students. and i had the "V" professor too...such an awesome class. totally renewed my faith in the school and the RN degree as a real science degree.

Transfer Schools
Hello, I was wondering if anyone knows of any schools in the Portland area (2 year schools) that allow for transfer students. I'm currently in my 1st semester of nursing school (RN program at a CC in Nevada) and want to transfer to a Portland school. I know PCC does not allow transfers because I called and asked. I am hoping to transfer to one of the more reputable 2 year schools - one that's been around for a while. But it looks like Portland might not be an option for me. Something about the OCNE stuff not being transferable...any ideas? Thanks :wink2: Also I'm an aid here in Nevada (agency) and I was wondering too if it's hard to find aid work in portland? I know times are tuff now...and I know portland is one of those places where it's often hard to find a job even in good times...but its such an awesome city. I really want to graduate from an Oregon nursing school. thx for any advice Yosh

What you'd REALLY like to say....
nurses that know i can hear them: I told the girl to clean up in that room. Aids are so lazy. um. i have a name. and guess what, it's not "the girl". nope, nope its not sweety or hun either. see...that's why those clever hospital administrators insist on those little white plastic thingys we fancy people call "name tags". oh, and no. i'm not lazy. i have 15 pts. none are continent. and it looks to me as though your butt is too big to get up and help me. oh and you also just asked me to do 10 other things. remember? nurses to a pt while i'm in the room: oh don't ask her, she's just an aid. she wouldn't know. haha. well maybe if you were a competent nurse your patients wouldn't be desperately asking anyone they can find for answers. nurse helping me clean her (not on my run) pt: you're the expert. you know how to do this i thought. you tell me what to do. i'll help you but you have to do most of it because i don't really do this. um. don't BS me lady. I'm in nursing school. i know they teach you everything a CNA is taught. i know the first semester of nursing school is largely CNA duties so don't tell me you don't know how to wipe butts and give baths. tell me you don't want to. at least that would be the truth. an aid to me after seeing me order an abdominal compressor from central supply and request zinc ointment, not just plain lotion for a few sore butts: what are you doing? just play stupid. pass your waters. give your baths. clean your people. they will ask you to do too much if you go above and beyond. they will take advantage of you. yeah, i know they will take advantage. but you know, if you always do your best, it'll probably be worth in the end. besides, don't you feel guilty sitting there acting dumb? make a difference. challenge yourself. why wouldn't you want to? to a lot of pts and family memebers: please stop liking me because i'm a nice white girl with blonde curly hair. please stop saying things like "finally, good white help". please. just because i'm white does not mean i'm racist like a disturbing amount of you obviously are. please please don't use the N word in my presence. it makes me want to hurt you, not help you. aaah. i feel better. =) good thread!

CSN Fall 2009 Full-Time RN Applicants
that is crazy, considering the number of students who wanted to apply but didn't get a chance to take the TEAS b/c of the wait list...me thinks this school is disorganized. they could potentially be graduating 15 or so more nurses for the semester if they had allowed for more students to take the test or expanded the cut off date. that's a bit of a waist of resources =(. but oh well, less competition if WTXgrl has accurate info.

Concerned about budget cuts to higher education.
Hey I talked to an adviser and one of the program professors about this. Apparently with the new stimulus package very little or nothing will be cut from the RN or LPN programs relative to the rest of the school because they are of critical need for the state and Nevada wont get stimulus money unless it proves that it is putting money toward higher ed. So hopefully nursing will be ok for now.

CSN Fall 2009 Full-Time RN Applicants
Hey everyone just wanted to share some info I got today when submitting my app: The lady who takes the apps (can't say her name but u all know who i'm talking about) - she said she thinks there will be far fewer apps this time around given the limited # of students who had a chance to take the TEAS. I waited standby and there were TONS of students who were down right in tears for not being able to take the test. So if you are applying w/fewer points than you wanted - go ahead - you have a few days left and if you've taken the test the numbers are on your side I think. Also - I submitted my app with 33 points - she said she couldn't say anything one way or the other but that the odds are better this semester for all qualified applicants.
