MCI's Nursing School Program
Hi. I did end up at MCI in the RN program. I had a 4.0 at the local community college and got straight A's on the prereqs at MCI also. However, I failed the first mod. I got an A in the first nursing class, but failed A&P. So, I am out. I was going to go into the LPN program, but now my financial aid stuff is messed up. It has nothing to do with the school, but my personal finances. I will say that it is a hard program and a few of us flunked the first mod, but I have kept in touch with the people from my class. (They were great) They are working very hard but doing well. I had some family issues going on during the first mod. They will not let you redo if you flunk during the first one. I think to weed out those who won't make it. So, be ready to study, but I liked the school and was hoping to continue in the LPN program.

LPN to RN
Hi. I am about to start (I think) a LPN program. I was in an 15 month RN program, but I am embarassed to admit I flunked A&P. I am out of the program (I had a 4.0 in prereqs at the local community college). I studied Psychology in college 20 years ago. I am wondering if I should do the LPN program (15 months also) and then try to do a Lpn to RN onlne, if possible. I live in Virginia and see that Excelsior (sp?) is not accepted in Virginia. Has anyone done University of Phoenix, and do they have a program. Does anyone recommend an online program that will work in Virginia? I am 43 and I am starting to think this isn't going to work out for me. I just have always wanted to be a nurse, and my children are older now and really wanted to do this.

MCI LPN Program
:nuke:Thank you. Was it difficult finding work afterwards? I have been told that the local hospitals have phased LPN's out. If you can give me any other info it would be VERY appreciated!

MCI LPN Program
I started MCI RN program in May and failed A&P. I had a 4.0 at community college this last year and attended college 20 years ago as a psychology major. I made straight A's on the prereqs also. Boy, when I flunked, I flunked well. I was so mortified. I decided to attend the LPN program in August now. Can anyone give me any info on the program? Now, I am started to fear I will fail this also. I am 43 and wonder if I am attempting to much. I would love any info.

RN vs. LPN (Please Give Advice)
Good Morning. I posted this on the LPN board and got a few responses but it was recommended that I ask on the RN board. I am 43 and had 3 years of college over 20 years ago. A year ago, I finally restarted school and went to the local community college and loved it. I got a 4.0 in the classes and loved the process of learning. The nursing wait list is a year and I decided to switch to MCI in Va. Beach. I took the testing and did great and was accepted. However, the first mod I had problems at home and hugely failed A&P. Embarassing and terrible. I had made straight A's in the prereqs at the school and got an A in the other class of the Mod. The school has offered for me to start in the LPN program. I have seriously started doubting my abilities. I was also the oldest person in the classes by far. They also offered for me to do RN program in Newport News but when I asked about LPN, they totally withdrew the offer to go to the RN program and said it was full. Part of me thinks that I am scared I will fail again. You can only fail 2 classes in 15 months or you are out and it is all wasted. The classes is strict and you can only miss one class in a five week period or you are out. My question, is do LPN's even have many employment opportunities. I had wanted to work in a hospital and I am hearing they aren't hired. Also, will I make enough money to justify a 30,000 school. However, I really need to have a job. I am in a bad situation at home and need to know that someday I could take care of myself and my daughter. The sooner the better. PLEASE GIVE ADVICE/ INFO.

LPN vs. RN
Advice Please! I have been attending a nursing program and completing the prereqs at my school and community college. I attending college 20 years ago; I am 43. The last year going to school, I have loved it! I had a 4.0 and just loved the process of learning. I recently enrolled in MCI's RN program and flunked A&P the first mod section. Embarassing. So, I am out of the RN program. Now they have offered for me to attend the LPN program. I have wanted to be a nurse for quite a while. I need some clarification. What is the major differences between LPN vs. RN in opportunity, salary, job availability. They said that the first A&P mod might not be quite as challenging. I had some bad things happen in my home life during those 5 weeks and I am hoping that contributed to the awful grade. PLEASE SOMEONE GIVE ME SOME ADVICE. I am not getting any younger.

Thank you so much for your advice. I feel so out of my element with all of this. Also, I love that quote by Maya Angelou. I am reading one of her books now and she is a wonderful writer.

LPN School Advice
Good Afternoon. I am hoping for a little advice. I am 43 and had three years of college a million years ago. Last year I decided that I wanted to be a nurse and went to community college. I had a 4.0 but the wait list was so long. I got into a program at MCI for Rn school and did well on the testing. I made A's in the prereqs; however, had problems in the first mod (personal and with the class) and flunked A&P. Awful. I am now out of the program but they have offered for me to attend the LPN program. I really don't have much info in the difference in the jobs and employment opportunities. Can anyone give me advice please? I had really wanted to work in a hospital. My anatomy teacher said I might be better at the class in the LPN program. It would be terrible if I failed again, but as I said, there were pretty terrible home circumstances at the time. Thanks to anyone who can give me any advice on LPN nursing and MCI's program.

Where did you take your chem? I took it at TCC and it was a pass/fail course and 4 credits. I was told today it would transfer. I don't want that to happen to me.

MCI Virginia Beach!!!!
If you are dropped from the program do you still have to pay the full amount? Are people dropping voluntarily because it is so difficult or failing? Do you have any older people? I am 43. Well, I know what it is like to be the oldest in the class. I have had a couple of the classes at TCC where I think they thought I was the professor. I am not sure how I got old so quickly. Ha.

MCI Virginia Beach!!!!
VB Girlie and Nacho- Thank you all for all the info. Are you both in the RN or LPN? To be honest, reading this I feel intimidated. I have made good grades at TCC after a 20 year break from previous college. I had a teacher at TCC say I should do RN and the advisor said it also, but I wonder if I would be able to do it. It sounds sort of scary. I have to study alot for the A's unlike my daughter, who gets A's and barely looks at her books. Any other info would be great. Anything at all...... I was going to call and maybe schedule an appt to meet with the admissions. I also feel nervous about the test. When I took chemistry at TCC, I realized that I don't remember much algebra. You don't really use it later. I would love any recommendations at all. Anything!!! Thank you.

MCI Virginia Beach!!!!
So far I have made straight A's but I really work for them. I did well in school when I was young, but lack confidence now. How is the entrance test? TCC gave me credit for all my math and english from college a billion years ago. However, do I remember it? That is the question. I just took ethics, chemistry (pass/fail course), developmental psych, and sociology. I am now taking medical terminology, intro to health services. It looks like it would be forever to start at TCC with the three concurrent sciences and deadlines. How is everyone doing in your classes? How about the financing? I am sorry for all the questions but I would love the advice. Thank you!

MCI Virginia Beach!!!!
Hi. I am thinking of applying. Do you take the prereqs at MCI? I have finished TCC's except the three sciences, and that is the problem. They would need to be in concurrent semesters and then I do not meet the cutoff date. It could be forever. I am 43. Also, I want to know about the RN vs. LPN program. I have no previous medical experience. Please if anyone can give any advice, it would be appreciated.

I am trying to figure out what I can and want to do in regards to Nursing School. I have been attending TCC for 2 semesters and have prereqs completed except Bio100, A&P I,II. They problem is this will be three more semester and then to make the cut off for applying. I am 43. I would love to hear more about MCI and its programs from someone who has been there. Also, I have no previous medical experience. Is the RN program to much of a reach or should I just start with LPN. I want to be able to support myself down the line.

Nursing School Advice- Hampton Roads
I need advice please! I am 43 and trying to restart my life and career path after 12 years of being a stay-at-home Mom. I will be an old student. I have many questions. I attended college over 20 years ago but never really applied myself. I did not finish and just went a couple years. I have started attending a local community college (Tidewater Community College) and have really enjoyed it. So far I have made all A's but it hasn't come easily. I still have BIO, and A&P I and II and was told I couldn't attend the nursing program until Sep. 2010 because of these classes. I am old and need to hurry this. I looked into Sentara and it is the same time frame. I have checked into Medical Careers Institute and was told I cold start very quickly. Can anyone tell me about their RN and LPN programs? Any advice on which to take and salaries of these positions. I know they are costly, but feel this is what I really want to do. I have 3 kids and want to hurry this along. Please someone tell me about Medical Careers Institute and these programs. Thank you.
