Thank you for responding so quickly, I'm really nervous about the test and I don't want to study material that is not going to be on the test I will buy the book, I just wanted to make sure it was worth the money.Did you pass on the first try? and what sections of the book should I really concentrate on?
  2. Quick question, I'm scheduled to take the NET in a few weeks and would like to know the best study guide, I went to the library and the only guide they have is the 3rd edition of Barron's nursing school entrance exam,is this a good book to study? or should I buy the NET study guide at the book store? also are there science questions on the test? If someone has a good study guide I am willing to purchase it, I really want to do well on this test. If there is anyone out there that can help I would appreciate it... I live in arlington texas, and plan on attending concorde in arlington. Thanks!!!

  9. I see that tcc offers an lvn program... has anyone taken the class? how hard is it to get in? what pre req's are required? I have to be accepted into the program before twc will pay for the class,if anyone has gone this route please let me know what steps I need to proceed with being accepted into the program. Thanking you in advance.
  10. I have completed my cna training and will sit for state may 17th/09 and now i'm looking for a school to take a phlebotomy class so i will be more marketable can someone tell me where i can find such a school in arlington or ft.worth (texas) area, thanks for any leads.
  11. How are your classes going?
  12. Big thanks, you were very helpful!!
  13. Does anyone know of any agencies in the DFW area that is willing to send out new cna's for work? I know there are agencies for lpn's and rn's...and do you know if the pay is any better compared to ltc...how do I find agencies in my area?I've googled but no luck.sometimes you just have to know. Thanks for any help.
  14. Thanks for your quick response, now I have another question...I will be completing my cna class april 29th and will sit for state may 17th, I was told that I would have a better chance of landing a job in a hospital if I volunteer,I looked into it a found that the process would take anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks to get started with background check, shots etc. I only have 4 weeks until I'm finished with the class,2 weeks down time before the test, then it's time to start looking for employment, do you think it's to late to start volunteering? what else can I do to make my application standout.I really want to work in a hospital for the training opposed to ltc.
  15. I would like to hear from you texas guys and gals,I have heard that Harris Methodist Hospital will train you if you are going for a degree,or certificate you can work part-time and get full-time pay is this true? also will they hire cna's and if so will they help you learn the ropes before they turn you lose on your own, or will they expect you to jump right in since you are fresh out of school and expect you to know what you are doing? I will be looking for a job pretty soon and would like to know the best hospitals to start looking at in the fort worth, arlington area. Thnks for your input:)
  16. I'm expected to finish cna class april 29th and take the state exam may 17th,I'm excited and nervous because once I finish I would like to work in a hospital and would like to know how the hospitals in the arlington, fort worth area feel about new graduates,I've gone to some of the hospital sites already and some say that at least one year experience is required,I'm so afraid to work in a nursing home because of the understaffing I've heard so much about, I'm not afraid of hard work but I want to give the best care possible and if we are always under staffed how can you?you have no choice but to take short cuts and that's not good for the resident. I've also heard that the pay in ltc is not good either, where else can I apply if hospitals won't accept me to get experience,my goal is to go for my RN eventually that's another reason I want to work in a hospital for the paid training. Also I'm on unemployment and really need to get back to work, and can someone tell me what the starting pay is for a cna in my position, what is the shift differential? nite/weekends.Thank you all so much for the advice you give;the different threads have been so helpful. Thanks and look to see your responses soon.:wink2:
  17. I'm attending Dunbar High School's nite classes in fort worth, the school is located 5700 Ramey,it's a 10 week course, and the cost was $180.00 which covered the cost of the books and state testing fee which will be held at a nursing facility...as far as job placement they don't gurantee but what we were told by our instructor the nursing facility where we will take clinicals will hire a lot of us and they also give you guidence, indirectly which is what we were told by TWC also.
  18. Thanks for your input, I have another question...when I finish CNA and let's say get a job in a hospital which is where I really want to work I feel I will have more options for cross training,I've been told that some hospitals have training programs and they will pay also if you sign an agreement to work for them after graduation; Do you know anyone that has done this before? and how did it work out for them.Thank you and good luck with all of your endeavors.
  19. Hello All;I'm new to the fourm and has gotten a lot of my questions answered already just by browsing, thanks. Now I have a question that I have not ran across yet on the site,I live in the DFW area(arlington) to be exact, have been laid off from my job since oct,08 drawing unemployment and am taking a CNA class that I'm paying for out of pocket,I was not aware that TWC has a career training program and would have piad for my training; I'm 2 weeks into my CNA schooling and the plan was to hire on at a hospital once I finish school the last day is may 6th,09 and state is may 23rd & 24th;I wanted to hire on and transition to LVN while I work. Has anyone ever gone thru the training program in texas thru TWC is it a good idea? they also offer RN classes but I want to take it slow CNA,LVN,then RN. Do I tell them that I have already taken the CNA classes or do I just sign up for LVN when I'm done?I don't want to be cut off my unemployment until I have been trained and know that I have the skills to find a job. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
