Do RN's have to have a CNA or Patient Care Tech working under them?
Hello all, I was wondering if all RN's have to have a CNA or Patient Care Tech working under them??? I have heard horror stories of RN's getting in trouble because of CNA's or PCT's not doing their job and the RN's getting in trouble because of it??? What field could I get into where I don't have to have a CNA working under me??? I really like to do work myself and not rely on anyone else to do things that I am responsible for!! Thank you for your time!!

Soon to be new pre-nursing student.
Don't worry about your age!!! 24 is still very young and if you feel you need to start out being a CNA, then go for it!!! You can do anything you put your mind to!!

HERZING COLLEGE
marisao13, I am currently attending Lake Sumter Community College in Florida....They only offer the nursing program once a year in the fall so when I'm done with my pre-reqs, I will apply to Valencia Community College and Florida Hospital College because they offer the program three times a year.... I wish you the best of luck in choosing your school and I'm glad that you will check out Herzing first before you commit to it....Please let me know how things go!!! Take care!

HERZING COLLEGE
marisao13, Are you ready for this????? The program at Herzing University is 24 months long including your pre-reqs, The total cost will be about $39,000....They have day and evening schedule, but she told us that since you focus on one class a month on your pre-reqs and if you choose a day class, sometimes you will have to go at night class if the professor chooses to teach for example: English at night!!! That sucks!!!! Once you get into the nursing program, you do not get to keep your nursing books, they are the property of the school!!! I think that it's ridiculous since the school is so expensive, you would think you get to keep your books. Clinicals could be at any time at any hospital, you have to go where they tell you....The hours could be 3am-11pm, 3pm-11pm, 7pm-7am, etc....Clinicals can be during the weekday and weekend.....I was not impressed by Herzing when she told us all of this...It is regionally accredited, but I think it's too expensive and they accept 25 students twice a year and their slots are never full and I see exactly why. Again, this is my opinion, I think you should go to the session and see if you like it....One more thing, they have already changed over to the TEAS test and I think you have to make at least a 65 on it, once you pass you have 2 weeks to get all your paperwork together, ex., background check, shots, records....

Wait List for Valencia Community College?

Keiser University RN Program
Thank you so much nurz2be!!! I appreciate the encouragement....I attend Lake Sumter right now and I will continue to do my pre-req's here...I asked if they were going to change over to the TEAS test and they told me that are keeping the HESI entrance test....That's good news for me....I heard the TEAS is extrememly hard..... Anyway, thanks again!!!

Wait List for Valencia Community College?
That's great!!! Congratulations!!!! What was your GPA if you don't mind me asking???
-
Wait List for Valencia Community College?
Does anyone know exactly how long the wait list is for Valencia Community College??? I know they accept 120 students in the fall and spring and 80 students in the summer....I was thinking of applying there when I finish my pre-reqs and since they accept 320 students a year, I would think my chances would be good, do you???

Keiser University RN Program
Well you guys I missed the NET by 1 point!!!! I got a 69, and I needed a 70... It sucks, but it did make me realize that I do NOT want to go to Keiser University (Orlando)...Instead of encouraging me to take the NET again, my counselor was trying to get me to consider another field..(Occupational Therapy Assistant)...Can you believe that??? No way, I will take myself and my money elsewhere!!!!

Keiser University RN Program
Re: Keiser University RN ProgramActually what is not transferable is if you start your classes, including your nursing classes, and decide to transfer to another school, THOSE classes are not transferable. IF you graduate from Keiser and take classes to get your BSN, Masters, etc... that degree will be accepted at nearly every school. It is SACS and NLN accredited, the later supports National accreditation, something that local community colleges do not all have. Thank you for telling me that....I will go ahead and take the NET tomorrow and go from there!!! Please wish me luck!!!!! Thank you for providing me with that info, I feel much better now....

Keiser University RN Program
OMG!!!! Are you serious???? I am scheduled to take the NET at Keiser (Orlando) on Wednesday and I was getting all excited about it, but if my degree isn't even transferable, why should I even go there to spend about $38K....I should just wait for a community college...Thank you so much for telling me this because I had no idea!!!!
-
HERZING COLLEGE
Melissa41932, Thank you for your response....I made an appointment with them for next Wednesday for the nursing information session.....I know that this school is expensive, but I can graduate quicker without waiting 2 years to get accepted at my community college.... Good luck to you on the TEAS test!!!!!

Straight to RN Program or LPN?
I would definitely go the RN route....I was going to start the LPN program in July until I found out that alot of hospitals (which is where I want to work) are phasing out LPN's....They are only going to hire RN's....I don't understand that because LPN's are just as important....

HERZING COLLEGE
Hello, I currently attend Lake Sumter Community College and it's basically impossible for me to get into the nursing program because of the waitlist .....I was doing alot of research on Herzing College and it is a 2-year program, including all of the pre-reqs...and there is no waitlist...Has anyone attended this college??? If so, how was your experience???? Thank you for your time

Community College vs. Private College

Community College vs. Private College
Hi, I'm very new to this forum and I'm looking for as many responses as possible: I am currently attending a community college in Florida and I am so shocked about the waiting lists for nursing school. Even when I finish my pre-reqs...I have to wait and see if I'm good enough to be accepted...It's so frustrating because I really do want to be a nurse.... I went to visit Keiser University in Orlando yesterday for information and they made things sound so tempting.....They have a class starting in May '09....It's 26 months and that includes all of the pre-reqs. It's so expensive: 38K for an Associate Degree. What should I do??? Does anyone know about Keiser University??? Should I wait and go to a community college or should I take the LPN route and bridge into RN???? I keep hearing rumors that LPN's are being phased out.....I know I have alot of questions and I would really appreciate any feedback. Thank you for your time...
