  1. not using ym..maybe once in a blue moon..just go to my facebook...type in my email address...ok... tell me everything, i want know your progress my dear...hehe... sorry for the OT guys...
  2. OMG! where have you been miss? hehe.. how are you? hows your application going? im quitting from my job february next year as im doing a Post Graduate Study... have you worked out as to which state you are going?
  3. good luck to you...so you will be in sunny queensland, do you know someone there? i would like to work interstate in the future...probably somewhere in the northern part of australia. i hope there will be a unifrom pay rates across australia now that the national registration has taken effect...if my memory serves me right the state of victoria has the lowest pay rates for nurses...
  4. as far as i know most state department of health in each state of australia offers a scholarship program for overseas trained professionals...but im just not sure if non PR visa holders are eligible to it, just browse their websites..:) in victoria, ETEA, is offering study now pay later, you can contact them and ask further information regarding it.:) however if you will pay cash the only worry you have is where to get the money, but once youve completed the course and landed a job you can easily earn A$3,500 - $4,500 a month...and lets say the bridging program will cost you A$10,000.. you can easily earn the money you spent for the bridging program in few months time of working... and if you need to borrow money from the bank or from someone, dont worry too much about it, whats important is you need to get an australian registration, once you have it, you can take it from there, you will be reaping the benefits guys...:)you can pay back your debts.
  5. hi nurses, this is nice...however, it should state if you need to be a PR before you can avail this...but worth trying...
  6. cleaned! done!you can mess it up now lol no worries...no im not gay, i just have a lawyer friend who is expert about family visa and partner visa...visa laws in australia easily change :) and she has handled a lot of these visa issues before so im a little bit oriented.
  7. i really thought @gliobastoma is a female...anyway, same sex marriage in australia is not yet allowed however, people like @gliob..has an alternative option.if so happened that @gliob met an aussie guy they can always apply for a registered partnership just like a "de facto" relationship and that aussie guy can sponsor @gliob..to come to australia and be with him;) so @gliobastoma, you have got an option girl! hehe by the way nurses, i just saw filipino nurses today at The Alfred Hospital where im currently working, they had their orientation and all of them came from the UK working as UK nurses of course, theyve decided to transfer to australia as the cost of living in the UK is really high...i was just thinking how cool it would it be if it was you:)...i hope this will serve as an inspiration to you, dont stop applying, there are a lot of vacancies out there its just a matter of perseverance
  8. ohh thank you for the good words... honestly, being a PR now doesnt make any difference, as ive known a lot of non PR people who need sponsorhip and landed a job than those PR people..it really depends upon your performance in your interview and the content of your resume...:)what the employers are looking, is for the applicant to have that can-do attitude, trainable, good background among others.. again..a major major thank you and good luck! (nahawa na ako sa yo @cioman)
  9. not really...what matters most is your registration as a australian RN..however, in my own opinion, i was very confident and proud to put it in my resume and impart it to my panel of interviewers...;)as having been graduated from a university..deakin university will always be a part of my resume starting now. i think the institution from where youve graduated is just like a back up added points factor for you during job application...but the main thing is how you did well in the interview e.g if youre employable, if youve got the right attitude, your learning, your experience, your performance in your clinicals and it also depends upon your referees thank you. until now i still cant believe that im already a part of The Alfred Hospital...my interview with them was just very smooth, i did expect a positive outcome after the interview but not that much until i was hired. :) and mind you one of the interview questions was: "what was the major mistake youve made and how did you make it right" my answer: of course i didnt say "i dont have a major major mistake"...hahaha...seriously i cant remember my answer anymore, i was mental blocked after the interview.
  10. yes. after i finished my BSN my parents sponsored me to come to australia.i was already in australia when the results of the nursing exams in the philippines was released. i wasnt able to attend the oath taking ceremony, i wasnt able to celebrate with my friends neither... hope to see you all here...by the way, nursing in australia is no different, they differ only in ,medical terms, drugs (brand names), spelling, and the way they do nursing here...but the main concept of nursing is still the same.
  11. im already living here in australia for 4 years :)
  12. Hi, thank you i hope to see you all here..:) right now im enjoying my full time job at The Alfred (melbourne's leading tertiary hospital together with the Royal Melbourne hospital and Austin Hospital ) i personally recommend VCHN and ETEA as ive known a couple of nurses who took their BP in these institutions and they told me that its easier there compared to Universities. beacuse we have compared it all. Universities have their standards to follow!!!im not scaring you guys, after all ive made it through to the gradution day at Deakin University, it can be managed however if theres a way that you could finish your BP without too much stress, then why not?! yes youre right! ive got $2,000 from the Dept. of Human services and $8,000 from the Australian Goverment.
  13. hi, i think it depends upon the education provider you choose..if you all still remember ive posted here before the schools that ive recommended. ETEA or VCHN... if youre eyeing Deakin University, where i also did my BP, you have to review your pathophysiology and journal writing, as you will be doing these things at deakin. by the way, im already working at The (Royal Prince) Alfred Hospital in Melbourne...Acute Assessment and Acute Medical Unitsss...good luck to all of us
  14. good on you donna...so staying there for good? like what weve talked before? good luck, i hope the USA is kind to you :) try wikipedia or askjeeves :) oh and they have different drug brand names here.some doctors still uses brand names. vacation will be on the 28th of this month. looking forward to seeing the south pacific, myself deserves a relaxation good luck cioman.
  15. wow, youve included my alma mater in your 1st class nursing school list.. im a DDCian batch 2005. :) my fellow nurses, for you to have an idea hows the vacancies being posted in some of the health care facilities in victoria you can visit these following websites. www.westernhealth.mhr.com.au, www.southernhealth.mhr.com.au, www.barwonhealth.mhr.com.au at least you will have an idea on how they formulate position descriptions and that in the future you can prepare for it specially during interview. :okaY: and to all nurses who are preparing for the BP, google some australian medical terms as they have diffferent medical terms and spelling s.
  16. hello, who gave you the information regarding these? im afraid to say that the inforrmation relayed to you is misleading! there is no such thing as RN will only be offered EN jobs. and so far i havent heard anyone from here who already have a RN licence and worked as an EN. ITS AGAINST THE LAW! if the proper authority knows about it they will be liable to law.you are licenced to work as RN and NOT as EN vice versa. and why would you work "junior" to your level??as far as i know RNs are more in demand than ENs. my thought is they were assessed as EN by the NBV and not RN thus working as EN. every RN has an equal opportunity of being employed. there is no such thing as overseas nurses who did a conversion program will have a higher chances of landing a job. come to think of it, every person who is applying for a registration is carefully assessed by the NBV, meaning once everyone is already registered you are all in the same level. in fact in my own opinion, nurses who have done BP than Conversion are more attractive to employers because this means these nurses dont need a year of study just to be qualified and nurses who did the BP were properly screened as evidenced by meeting the difficult requirements set by the board and one of which is the IELTS. maybe what they were telling you is that they were assessed by the board as EN eventhough they were RN overseas and a couple of nurses in this forum is in that situation as well. as for RN jobs in melbourne metro, there is a huge competition in the metro area,, however, in the regional or rural area you will have a higher chances of getting a job as few nurses opt to go regional for work.:) but sometimes its just a matter of luck and/or perseverance... dont worry about having no experience, you can apply as a graduate year nurse...
  17. Its already July 1, 2010, and im already an Australia-wide Registered Nurse, not only a Victorian Nurse..hehe LOL @cioman, whats APHRA? dont they have an email address? whats their number, i will try to ring them once ive got a time...:) By the way guys and goyettes try contacting this agency, they are sponsoring overseas nurses who are worth spnsoring (hahaha..just kidding)..yeah try to contact them and maybe they can help you...their website is mediserve.com.au and have a read through their website,if they are willing to sponsor you they will be the one who will pay for your visa expenses among others:up:...and im currently working for them as agency nurse as well as my friend:)
  18. i chose to go to my GP and ask for a "prescription" for a set of tests.then forwarded it to the pathology...yes it is under medicare and some of the vaccines are under medicare, however there some vaccines which you have to pay...i think ive paid $150 or so for the vaccines. serology tests can be done in the university as well as vaccinations as there are nurse immunizers in the uni...:)
  19. regarding the vaccines. you can do it anywhere you want in my case, i have myself tested first for antiboddies...then take it from there... you may have it in australia or in the philippines, any doctor will do, as long as you will keep a record of it..its important..:)
  20. i know this question is for @chabeli... but in my case, you have to apply for a visa first before you comply with the medical requirement...the australian embassy will then track any accredited doctors or hospital near your place to conduct the medicals for you...the embassy will send you a correspondence regarding this, and then it will be your job to contact the nominated doctor/hospital to arrange an appointment date..:) i dont know others case, but you cant just go to any doctor and do the medicals...they should be australian embassy accredited.
  21. ^^ hi hi_ho09, better for you to ring them...:) i honestly dont know the answer.. its not an undergraduate course its a non-award course...so you cant see it in their list of courses, as they are not constantly offering the course...:) contact them using these email addresses..they will respond to every email.. heres the link: http://www.deakin.edu.au/hmnbs/pdu/staffcontacts.php
  22. my suggestion would be for you to apply now and then take ielts afterwards...because your application will be put on qeue...your application or your approval letter from the nbv will expire in two years anyway, so theres enough time for you to take ielts over and over again (im not saying you wont pass ielts hey?)... whatever you decision is, its always right cos its your own decision you know your very own self than anybody else hi, thanks your congratulations my friend who is an indonesian nurse, she is currently taking the bnp program of uni of ballarat...however i cant remember if she told me if she still have to take the 6 months bn for her to be eligible to register as a div. 1... i have also enquired at la trobe before about a program for overseas nurses, unfortunately i cant remember the details and the name of the course anymore..on the other hand, deakin uni is running a similar course for overseas nurses whos eilts results are below 7...i saw and met a lot of overseas nurses who were doing the course when i was doing the 3 months initial reg course at deakin...i just dont know if they still need the approval of the nbv or apply directly to the uni...the best thing to do is to ring the uni and ask info... but since the program is only one year, you still have to submit an ielts result before applying for a registration and you need to have 7 band score in each component...(theres always a catch)..
  23. go to your local health centre..or you might as well have yourself tested with these anti bodies... i would like you to pm me if your question is a bit private or personal...just keep on posting here until you reach 15 posts then you can send private messages... or just post your queries here and everyone will answer it as much and as accurate as they (we) could..:)
  24. no. im not sure. theres no assurance that you will be offered a job. yes i think so..it is easier to get a job in regional victoria because in metro melb theres a lot of competition. deakin has tied up with hospitals around melbourne...if there are no vacancies then thats the time you will be sent to regional vic. only two of us where assigned to portland which is really far from melb. and one of them went back to india as her visa expired and she cant land a job...oh well, things happened. hi, it doesnt matter, as during the aged care placement you will be taught on how to be an aged care RN... nothing much really, you just need to know on how to deal with old people, most of them are demented, incontinent, etc... having a background in general medicine would help you...:)
  25. @terdjay, youre welcome. yes ive made a stat dec before. but the nbv wasnt very strict that time, they just required me to make a "signed letter" stating this and that. now, i believe you have to obtain a specific form in order for you to do it... yeah Chadstone, its just a one bus ride away..its our "church" . chadstone shopping centre one of the reasons why melbourne is dubbed as the fashion capital of australia. but then Philippine malls are way to better than their australian counterpart...Rob Manila or SM Megamall is 5x better than chadstone for me... when is the next intake of deakin by the way? to all of you who are a bit concerned of the australian hospital setting..you can go to youtube and search for "all saints", thats a tv medical drama program in australia...its a great tv show specially the daytime edition and not the nightime...you can see how nurses fucntion in the hospital and how they interact with other health professionals and patients...:)
