I had that same problem..being a new grad lvn..But what I did is I made jobsearching a "job" for me..I got into a routine and spent a certain amount of time of the day looking online, making calls and sending out emails/resumes, going to fill out applications, and setting up interviews. Have you checked the usajobs.govwebsite?..I think there are openings at Travis air Force base in Fairfield...Also keep checking Craigslist....that is how I found my job (as a new grad lvn) at a wonderful facility. There is something out here for you too, So Good luck and let us know how it goes!!!

...Well I didn't get the call from the place I interviewed with last week, they said I would hear something by now..so I guess I along with 18 others will still be out there looking for work! Oh well that's how it goes....I will try not to be too upset....just start new search monday!

dmmd, I feel the same way you do! I also got my license in March and still no job yet. I am up here near San Francisco, and the same thing, "need at least 1 year experience" NO NEW GRADS! AND there seems to be job openings but for the experienced LVN(I apply to them anyways just in case they would consider a new grad, but no luck yet. Yeah I am also looking into going back to get my RN, instead of sitting around waiting. Might as well right? It is frustrating, here it is now going into June, and still no job! In the mean time, I have been reading my nurse notes and books again just to stay busy so I don't forget anything I have learned, along with applying for positions, and interviewing. We just have to keep trying and hope things get better for all of us. While I was in school, I heard from RNs while I was doing my clinicals that everywhere(Hospitals etc), would be phasing out LVNs, and that we(LPN/LVN) would have to become RNs anyway. Did you hear anything like that?

Wow she is in San Diego?? She is so lucky!!:nuke: I loved it there! If you get the chance you should visit there! There's so much to see and do! Yeah I have seen a couple of lvn jobs down that way...just not much for us new grads up here so far...they want lvns with at least 1 year or more experience, and the economy isn't helping either so that's good that you are already working...I am praying for a turn around really soon for all of us looking for jobs!:wshgrt:

Finding a job as a new grad out here in California is nearly impossible right now...I am hanging in there though...California has changed alot and not for the better either. we lived in Michigan for 4 years and before that we were in San Diego(loved it there) and now we are in Northern California! I am trying to give it a chance since it's home for the next few years! And hoping to land a job soon!

I had 163 questions and thought I failed because see I moved out here right after graduation(from Michigan) and all of my friends in Michigan that took their boards all had 85 questions, and they all passed, so when my questions went past 85 I started to panic, but quickly thought to myself to keep it together and continued answering the questions. I think you did fine, so just stay busy and keep thinking positively, and you will know the results tomorrow! You will be in my thoughts!!

Just stay busy(exercise, watch movies, read books,)whatever you can do to keep your mind off of your exam. Think positive...4 of my classmates all said theirs stopped at 85 and they all passed!! I didn't see where you were located, so does your state participate in the quick results? California doesn't so I had to wait for mine to come in the mail(which I passed) which I had to wait 2 weeks, and usually the wait is 3 or more so I was happy..Good luck!!

Hi LilKwonie, Although I don't have a job yet(Will know by next week Friday) I can say that you are not wasting your money. I felt that way a couple of days ago, but we are needed, if not right away, really soon. I don't know where you are located, but where I am(Northern California) it's hard to find a place that accepts new grads, and I can't move to an area where the jobs are because I am married and have a family. So I have to keep looking around my area, and pray something will open up soon. In the mean time, I am getting some great interviewing experience!!:lol_hitti I have a feeling that soon, you will be reading about all of us on here finding LPN/LVN positions somewhere(yeay!) So you hang in there, you are not wasting your money, or time! Good luck on your boardS!

Thank you for the wishes!!I always see lvn jobs down your way so maybe you will have better luck than I am right now. The DON who interviewed me said that it's tough for all nurses looking for work, and that's when he shared how many applicants he had(normally only 2 or 3 instead of the 20) The facility is an assisted living/retirement facility, and they have lvns there and caregivers. The position is parttime which at this point I am willing to take anything to get my foot in the door. I did apply to a snf that's closer to my house, and hoping to hear from them soon. Well I wish you good luck with your job search and let me know when you find something! Hopefully next week I will have some good news too! Take care!

Sensoria17, Hi! My interview went great I think. However, the DON told me that he had 5 more people to interview after me, and I would hear something from them in about a week. He also said that there were 20 applicants for the position I applied to, so I hope that I impressed him enough to get hired. Where are you located? I am over in Sonoma county area....

Go for your dream!! I thought I would be the oldest in my class when I went back to school(39 years old at the time), but had a classmate who was 56 years young!! She did great, and in fact had more energy than a lot of the 20 year olds in our class! Our university had a 72 y/o who graduated with a degree in psychology! She told me that it had been a life long dream of hers to become a pychologist! Well I am just putting these examples just to say that you are never too old to go for what you want! I also agree with MassED, you are in a good place! Good luck!

I feel your pain! I passed my boards and got my license in March, and have applied for LVN/LPN positions with no luck due to lack of experience, and I even tried to apply for a caregiver position just to try to get my foot in the door in hopes of one day filling an Lvn position when one opened up, but they would not hire me because I was "overqualified!" augh! I have another interview tomorrow, and hope that they give me a chance! :plsebeg:It's frustrating because all I looked forward to after graduating was passing my boards and going to work right away! I don't know where you are located but in Northern California, it's horrible for new graduates! When you read an ad for jobs for an LPN/LVN and then in bold letters it says NO NEW GRADS! I remember feeling like you do! Just go into your boards with the attitude that you will pass! Take your time, (but not too much time) Read the questions carefully, then your choice of answers(all of them) and choose the one that best answers the questions. I hope you got a good night sleep, and go early to the testing site so you can try to relax before taking your exam....you can do it! Good luck!
