Advice from any jeff state shelby campus rn program???
Let's see....Here's what I would do if I had to do over again. I would read more. Don't forget about your med terms. It's not just defs - look at the chapters - alot of anatomy is on the test as well. Those 2 tests can raise or lower your grade very quickly. And actually reading that book helped with the other classes too. I thought that the assessment and pharm tests were fair and straight forward. You knew or you didn't. No strange round about questions on those. But that does not make them easy either. Find a good study buddy - someone with the same (or better) grades that does not fiddle around. Just plan on not having much of a life for the next 2 semesters. This is a commitment and I think that is why it is so difficult. No one that really does not WANT to do this will make it. However, I was surprised that several of my classmates that I knew wanted and would be great nurses did not make it. Stay focused - this is really a short amount of time to sacrifice for a career. You can do it - get organized - learn your stuff - I am in second and I see that we are just building on what we started in first. So, anything I did not learn well, I am having to work harder on now. Well, good luck. I hope this has helped some and if there is anything else - just ask - someone on here always has the answer=)

Jeff State Fall '09 Hopefuls??
I feel the same way....We are in the same boat it seems. I didn't take classes - had a baby and my husband lost his job a few weeks ago (congrats on finding a new one!) we thought it would be much easier to find something - not the case! I have been reading alot since I got my books last week . By the way, has anyone checked Blackboard? I printed the syllabus for 103 & 104. It has the scheduled meeting days as Tues & Wed. Did I write it down wrong in my day planner? I have written Nur 102 on Tues. Just checking.....

New 2009 part-time jeff state class
FYI - I just got back from Shelby County Health Department. I got my Hep B, TB test & MMR Vac for $39.73. I had the tetorifice done last year for around $15.00. The nurse suggested checking cost at American Family Care for chicken pox titer. Good Luck in the program!

Jeff State Fall '09 Hopefuls??
I think the packet (from orientation) is just practice problems to get us familiar with them. They go along with Chapters 17-20 & 22 in the Calculating book. FYI - I just got my Hep B vac, TB test & MMR vac done at Shelby County Health Dept. It cost me $39.73. I had my tetorifice done there earlier for about $15.00. Now, I just have to get a titer for chicken pox. They suggested calling American Family Care for a price but I am going to check with me regular doc first. I am so excited to start Monday - look forward to meeting everyone & becoming nurses together

Jeff State Fall '09 Hopefuls??
I started on the worksheet last week. I did not have any problems until I got to the IV calculations. I don't know why I am stumped. I guess I really haven't spent enough time on them. Most of the others came pretty easy. Let me know when you get started & see if we can help each other. PS, I have taken a break from them this week - I plan on starting back over the weekend.

Jeff State Fall '09 Hopefuls??
I had the vacs as a child but its ok to take the vaccines again instead of the titers isn't it?
-
Jeff State Fall '09 Hopefuls??
Yes, I think that is the point of the titer - to prove we are not susceptible to the virus....Did u already have the hep b vac? I made my appt with Shelby Co health dept for the 20th. They can do the tb skin test, mmr and hep b vaccines. I decided to go ahead & get the vaccines since they can be done there. Except the chicken pox, I am going to check with my md for that one....

Jeff State Fall '09 Hopefuls??
Has anyone found out any info on costs for immunizations/titers? I know that the Hep B cost $39 per shot at Shelby County Health Dept. I have had my tetorifice shot. I just curious if anyone had decided where they were going to go to get theirs taken care of......

Jeff State Fall '09 Hopefuls??
I have basically been working on the straight conversion problems. I wanted to get comfortable with those. I plan on working on the injection ad iv problems this week. So far, no major problems. I glad they sent this home b/c it has eased my anxiety about the math. I am waiting on funds to purchase books. I think I am going to do the bundle b/c I want the ebook access. They do have a copy of the calculations book in the library. I have made copies of the things I needed until I buy the book.
