Kaplan College's LVN HESI exam
I took the HESI in LPN school. It was part of our schooling. From what I remember it was all Patient care questions. The questions were nursing questions, scenerio questions, not just the random english, math, etc. All the math was medication related. It was like the NCLEX-PN, in fact whatever score you recieved on the HESI was the probablity you'd pass the NCLEX-PN. Is there an entrance HESI?? I also had to take it when I graduated. I don't know any other HESI, so I may be out of the loop. lol

LVN to RN Bridge Riverside Community College
Thank you Nicki for the info!! I will check into the other school. Luckily the LPN school I went to in Florida made us do care plans all the time. We did care plans for every clinical and they were included as part of our exams. I know some of the LPN students going into thier RN program had never been exposed to care plans before. I wish I would have stayed now for thier RN program, but I needed to come back for family reasons. Ugh...gotta love California. lol Thanks again!!

LVN to RN Bridge Riverside Community College
Hello, I was wondering if anyone had applied to The Riverside Community College Lvn to Rn bridge program? If so how hard is it to get in? I have some pre-courses done. I looked at the website today and it said advanced placement students were admitted as space permits. Does that mean they take all the non-advanced placement students and it's difficult for the bridge students to get in? I'm trying to figure out what I should do as far as going out of state for the RN. What about any of the other programs such as Golden West, Santa Ana, etc? I want to get started ASAP!! What to do?? Any information would be appreciated!!!! Cheers!!!

Anyone from Galen College of Nursing in Tampa Area
Thanks for that info!! Hey, what do you mean your student loans will be forgiven if you work in the private sector?? I have several student loans. I'm going to do the RN at Galen in August. I'm in Galen's LPN program right now. I'm interested actually in working in a mental health facility. Can you give me more info on the forgiveness of student loans. That's awesome that UP will take the credits. That is probably what I will do too. :)

Anyone Enrolled or Plan on Enrolling in the Galen LPN TO RN Bridge in St. Pete?
I attend Galen now. I'm finishing up my LPN and then will go on to do my RN there. From what I heard about 6 months ago was that they were working on becoming accredited so that thier classes would transfer for a BSN. I know that they were working on that. My clinical instructor had said in December that they were now accredited for transfer. I haven't actually checked with the office on that though. It would be best to call the office or email them and ask if your credits will transfer for BSN if that's what your wanting to do. They are accredited as far as sitting for the NCLEX and getting an associates RN degree which at this point is all I want. It is a good school. Hard, but its worth it. I would rather go to a school that I know has been around a while and has a stable program in place. If your going to pay that much for a program, it better be good. You don't want to sign up, pay the money and then halfway through the program the school loses thier accreditation. I know that my first quarter instructor said Galen is strict and they follow certain guidelines to stay accreditated. They can take away the schools accreditation at anytime. If you do take the prereqs. somewhere else and plan to apply at Galen...make sure you don't fail any classes and have to take them over. From what I've heard they won't accept classes that have been taken more than once. So, that means they will make you take it over AGAIN at Galen for the third time. LOL Good luck in whatever you decide!!

Are there any others who don't 'love' nursing school?
I've always wanted to be a nurse. I've worked in healthcare for 20 yrs, my first job at 19 in a doctor's office. It's always been administrative work, so Pt. care is all new to me. I'm 6 months into an LPN program and then plan on going on to get my RN. I'm feeling so down today. It does give me comfort to see there are others stressed out like me. I've done well in all my classes. At the moment I'm in a pediatrics and mental health rotation. I'm just feeling really overwhelmed with all the work and clinicals. We are doing peds clinicals at a facility where it's basically a nursing home for children. It just makes me so sad to see kids in this condition. Emotionally, I can handle most things, but this I just can't. They have children that will never get well and go home. Some of them are victims of abuse and thier injuries were so bad that they will never live a normal life. Some have seizures constantly. I have 3 more days to go. I've been there for one day. Everyone says just try to distance yourself from it and do what your supposed to do. How have other people handled a really hard clinical rotation?? I mean obviously I don't have a choice, I have to finish the rotation or I don't move on. Not only is the clincial hard emotionally, but then they give you all kinds of work to do (presentations, careplans, etc.) The instructors know this is a hard rotation..my peds instructor has even said..she knows it will be hard for some of us. How do I get through this? Thanks for letting me vent..

Anyone from Galen College of Nursing in Tampa Area
Congrats all!! I actually attend Galen St. Pete. I'm actually in the LPN program days. I'm 6 months in and 6th months to go. I really like the school!! I plan on going on to do my RN there. The school is great. The teachers I've had so far are wonderful. It's strict with an attendance policy, but it's so worth it. I like it because it's a smaller, private school. The instructors are very accessible and helpful. I've met some great friends too. I actually moved from Southern CAlif. to go to school. Our wait list there is 2 to 3 yrs. for an RN. An LPN program price is $30,000 and a bridge program $60,000. Yes, that's right. LOL So, I did some research...found Galen, came for a visit liked the school and moved. It's really no different than someone going out of state for college. I will be done before my friends will even be in a program in Calif. And...it's cheaper to live in Fla. LOL Anyhoo...you guys made an excellent choice. Good luck and I'll probably see ya in the halls. LOL

Anyone Enrolled or Plan on Enrolling in the Galen LPN TO RN Bridge in St. Pete?
Hi Kyle, I actually go to Galen in St. Pete. I'm in the LPN program. I think the school is great!! I really like it so far. I'm about 6 months into the program and finish in Aug. I do plan on going on to get my RN there. They hold a very high standard which is what I wanted. They are strict, so you need to be serious about making the commitment. They have an abscence policy and you need to wear a name tag. Really it's kinda like having a job. The school is a professional place, your in training for a future job. The teachers have years and years of experience in the field which really helps. The thing I really like is it's a smaller private school. It feels more like a family. They split you up into smaller groups for clinicals. I think I have 10 students in my clinical and we are all buds. We all share phone numbers and make sure we all have all of our papers done and know where were supposed to be. LOL We support each other and cheer each other on. The teachers seem willing to help and have offered extra time to those who are struggling with math (like me) LOL. The instructors I've had so far have been great. Good luck to ya..Mabe I'll see ya there. LOL
