Yes, I got in to Cuesta. I do not know how long the Santa Barbara wait list is at this time.

YOu wont have to take Patho unless you are admitted to the program. For instance those that are admitted for fall 2010 will be taking Patho at CSUB this summer. I took nutrition at my community college and it was accepted.

Check out Cuesta's home page and it has a link to the acredidation problem. I am local and will have units to get in to Cuesta...what was your GPA in sciences and overall?

I know a lady who applied ( a friend of a friends mother) and she said she called and they got 239 applictions; maybe they only put so many on the wait list or maybe someof the applications were not complete. I see on the Cuesta nursing page they now have a form for pre-nursing class course evaluations. Maybe people are complaining that they didnt know their class wouldnt be accepted? Do you live on the Central Coast?..so are you a Cuesta local and will be in the top 50%...so you HAD the Cuesta resident units...your high on the list! Did they take 56 as they have in the past? I dont here much chatter on this site about Cuesta, is it a prettyreputatable program or maybe I should just wait for Santa Barbara City College? ..or anywhere else I have applied :-) I see on Cuestas home page they are having accredidation problems. Has anyone out there considered that if they get in to this program the school could loose acredidation next year? I am concerned about that.

soontobenurse, Do you know any of the details of how many Cuesta took? How many applied? Do they do a wait list...is that what you mean by you are on an alternate list? Do they give you an alternate number?

Do you live on the central coast and know people in this program? I am going to be applying there for fall 2011 and if it is not worth my efforts I wont. I just wonder how you got this info. I looked Cuesta up and they have a great passing rate ont he NCLEX. Do they have a good reputation i your mind for training their nurses? Do you think that only local nursing graduates get hired at their local hospitals?

So, are you guys getting calls from the pre-nursing advisor about whether you plan on attending CSUB?

I am not in, knew I would not be. After looking at the chart I saw that I had not been given my 5 points for residency and I e-mailed the director. She said she would make sure those 5 points got added. With those 5 points I end up with 35 points. YOu can see where that lands me. There are two others that already have 35 points. So, unless the 5 without Teas scores do not turn them in, and a few others decide not to attend CSUB if, someone bombs their courses in progress and their GPA's go down...AND if CSUB decided to take 40................as you can see my chances are slim to none. I have already taken patho, so if t the last minute they have someone drop and want to replace them with someone who has already taken patho that woul dbe me....But I am happy for the two of you and hope you have a great time in nursing school at CSUB.

Sara, I am considering the LVN program at Cuesta. What more can you tell me about it. You took it on the north country campus right? I live in the five cities area so if I do it I will be trying to find a place to live a few days a week up in Paso. Where did you do your clinicals? Homework? Were most of your cohort cna's? Did you cover Pharmacology? I see the LVN program at Allan Hancock requires that class before starting the program ...I am considering doing the LVN at Cuesta and then transferring to the one year RN program at Allan Hancock. Thanks for any knowledge you have and wish to share.

yes, when the couses you are taking are posted to your transcript send them to the nursing dept.

no drawback for you...looks like you have at least a 3.90-3-94 in overall GPA which is 23 points....math sci GPA about the same 3.90-3.94 another 23 points...then add the 9 points for the ATI score...and residency points for California and Bakersfield 5+5....you'll get in.

I would contact ***** ***** and she can send them as attachments...I do not have a scanner. I can give you specific info on the criteria sheet if you want that. The scoring is the same on the GPA and the MAth/Science until you get to the 3.75 -4.0 get 20 points and on the old one you could earn up to 25 points ...for every step from 3.75, 3.80,3.90. 4.0 you earned another point. So just ask me and I can look at the sheets or you can contact *****.

Hi Mike! Well, I am just being candid and looking at the facts/stats...I wish you and all the A students good luck...I will just have to take the long route and do the ADN and then do a RN to BSN online program. Thats what happens when you are a B student. I wonder if all the other accelerated students made it into the fall 2009 class and I am the only one floundering...chin up, I tell myself ...something will come my way eventually.

I have it, what was your TEAS score and I will tell you your points. An awesome GPA will most likely get you in...I have a terrible GPA since they are only using 8 prereqs..so I will not get in...so I hope you do...

If the school that you are looking to apply to accepts on line courses I have heard a lot of people on all nurses say that santa barbara CC has a good on line class. Where are you looking to apply to?

3.2 was the lowest and that was probably one person who was a veteran or was classified by their point system as economically disadvantaged ( you get points on their crieteria scale for those) ..the average was 3.59 and this next fall 09 class the average person has about a 3.89

S. Snake: Here is what I know from a friend of mine that was going to apply to CSU Bakersfield and got tired of the constant changing so decided on CSULB. The program keeps changing. Last year at this time they had 2 separate programs, first, an entry level 3 year program for those without BA/BS. Second, they had an accelerated program - it was a 15 month program that would start in summer 09 - you had to have a bachelors in something to get into it....then last summer the accelerated went to an 18 month program and they added a pre-requisite of pathophysiology..they told you that the patho course would be offered at CSUB and to take it in Spring 09. You were to apply to the university for spring 09 admission so that you could take it and then the accelerated program would begin in Summer 09. Then in December they dropped the accelerated program and combined the regular 3 year undergraduate program WITH the accelerated one and now it is just ONE 21 month program - AND they still wanted you to take the pre-requisite of pathophysiology ( 3 semester units or 5 quarter units) ) and it has to be one that they approve of...CAN NOT be on-line must be a face to face lecture and still gave you the option of taking it in spring 09 but were also going to offer it during the summer 09 as the new revised program would not start till fall 09. So I guess the people taking the patho now are taking it and dont even know if they are accepted into the program. So, if your GPA ( overall and math/science to separate categories) and TEAS were good enough on their criteria ( scale and they give points) those people enrolled in Spring 09 patho are hoping that they will get in by having the patho complete at CSUB. I heard yesterday if you are one of the top 48 and dont have the patho class completed then you can take it at CSUB during their summer 5 week session - that they are going to give conditional admission to those top 48 and you will be in their program if you pass the patho with a C. So what about those people who are just about to finish and maybe they get and A or a B in the patho course? ....I guess it doesnt matter as they are basing the conditional admission on your criteria score..and because the program is impacted they dont use all your pre-requisties grades for the criteria score, they only use a few of the required pre-requite grades to figure your score...............Who knows what they will change next. If you apply at CSUB stay on top of things and be very flexible to changes in their program. It also helps if you live in their area as you get points for being a Bakersfield resident. My friend didnt live there and lived closer to CSULB and had applied at a lot of southern California schools. So I think she made the right choice. One wants to feel like they are going into a program that has been doing it for a while and they wont get jerked around. But from what I read on allnurses many of the programs switich things upquite a bit. I think there IS competition at CSUB as they get over 300 applications and only take 48. Well, at least that is what they are doing as of today :-)

YEs! I DO think it is weird that these classes can be taken on line...I chose to not take pathophysiology on line...and now that I am in a face to face lecture class recording all the lectures and listening to them over and over and then going to the discussion portion...well, I can not EVEN imagine trying to take all the info in through an on line course. Maybe it is just me and how I learn...the amount of info is amazing and I want to have a good foundation so I am glad I chose this route.
