  1. hello all!!! today i start my cna class!! i must admit i'm a little nervous!!! but after doing nothing for 3 months, i'm so ready to have something to do every day!! i'm sure everything will be just fine. i'm excited about learning new things!! in a few weeks it will all be over! the book is huge!! so, there is a lot to learn!! but i'm ready!!! i sure hope i'm not the oldest one in the class!! hopefully the teacher is my age or older!! lol!!! i'd like to hear how your first day went and how school is progressing. i shall return to share my first day!! take care!
  2. I'm in California and we have LVN's (Licensed Vocational Nurse) which is the same as LPN in other states. If there is a will there is a way!!! We will do what needs to be done to become what we want to be... A Nurse! I'm just praying that when I apply to the LVN program (at the local college) that I will be accepted!! It won't start until Jan 2010. I really do not want to pay the price to go to a private school. Who has $20 grand!! The one thing I do worry about is, will I be able to find a job, the economy just keeps getting worse. However, I am determined!! I try to think positively that I will pass CNA and get a job. I'm glad this thread was started as well!!!
  3. hi!! i'm a newbie too!!! i start my cna class at the end of march. i have already completed my pre-req's, so i will apply to the lvn program in the fall. i have been poking around here reading up on peoples experiences, which i find very helpful!! i kind of know what i'm getting myself into, but it's been years since i've been in the care field. so thank you for starting this thread!! i look forward to reading more about other's experiences.
  4. hello!! i'm so happy to see this thread!! i was starting to feel that i may be the only older person starting their lives over again. i am 42 and will be starting a cna class in march. :yelclap: i have already completed all my pre-req's for the lvn program, which i will apply to in the fall 09. i thought that becoming a cna would help in becoming a lvn then hopefully a rn. i, like many of you, started out a little late, but i figure... better late then never!! i got caught up in life and a good paying job (that i hated, but it paid the bills) and put my goals on the back burner. then the opportunity came up for me to be able to leave my job and pursue my dreams!! i am lucky to have a very supportive husband, who wants me to accomplish my goals. also, to have found this site that is full of info and support! i wish you all the best in your pursuit of nursing!!! :wink2:
  5. hello!! i'm pretty excited about starting my cna class march 31st. i registered for the class this past tuesday. got my text book and all the paperwork i need to fill out for the first day of class. i just wish it started sooner! but this will give me some time to start reading the text book, it came with a cd, so i will check that out too. after reading many posts, i realized that back in the early 90's i was basically doing the work of a cna, but wasn't one. i had worked in a care home for many years caring for residents. so i am familur with what a cna does for the most part. but i am still a little nervous, it's been a long time since i've done this type of work. but i'm looking forward to doing it again, but this time i will be a cna!! my goal, like many, is to get into an lvn program then eventually become a rn. my only regret is that i wish i would have done this years ago!! but life got in the way, as did bills! lol!! so i have been out of the medical field for close to 10 years. i really miss it and can't wait to get started doing something i have always wanted to do!! i guess.. it's better late than never!! i look forward to reading everyone's posts on thier cna experiences! this is a great thread!!!
  6. thank you. i was looking at winterstein, i might just give them a call. i'm on the waiting list for lodi adult/career center, it doesn't start until march 31st.
  7. nice to know i am not the only one who quit their job!! i was at my job for 8 1/2 extremely long years!!! totally hated the job!!! i put off school because i starting working. but over the past few years i have been taking a pre-req class in hopes to one day get into nursing school. so when the opportunity came up to leave my job with a severance package, i jumped at the chance!! i figured i could start on my nursing career, finally!!! so, i have been impateintly waiting to start cna class. it doesn't start until the end of march!! i want to start yesterday!! now i sit and wait!! still looking for a school that starts sooner!! best of luck to all!!!
  8. hello!! i have been looking for a cna training school in the stockton area. (i've spent many hours online searching!) i have looked at community college's, local adult/rop school's as well as private school's. my problem is that i can not find one that has classes starting soon. i would like to be training now. (i understand that we don't always get what we want ) some classes don't start for a few months or the ones that started sooner were already full. so any suggestions would be greatly appricaited. i am willing to drive to sacramento or modesto, even to tracy. thank you in advance!!!
