  1. See .. this is why once I finish school .. I'm ain't goin' NO WHERE. Haha! I'm stayin' put at least in this state. I'm afraid to go through the craziness of figuring out what to do because I moved states. Heh. Good luck to you. I hope you get back into nursing as soon as you can! :)
  2. Ouch! I dunno what to tell ya. Don't smoke pot? Heh. That's the only thing to say really. I was raised military so I wouldn't have ever dreamt of doing drugs. Then, I went in myself after I graduated high school. So yeah, dunno what to tell ya friend ... It is your own fault (which I'm sure you don't need me to tell you - you seem pretty open to what people have told you and you're obviously not dumb or in rejection of facts, that I can see) but, you can - like many others have stated - learn from this and rectify it. Just take your mistakes, fix/patch them up as much as possible and move on .. Good luck to you, friend! :)
  3. I would like to give my sincere apoligy to the public - both to the daily writers to the visitors. To those who are here everyday with me posting and replying as well as those who pop in and out every once and a while. I made a statement today that was out of line and it was/is against the Terms and Conditions of this board. To those who know what I am talking about I want to apoligize. There is no justification of my actions and I am sorry. My intentions were not to ever lash out at someone; rather to voice an opinion in which many agreed with. From here on, I will watch myself and make sure I speak on my behalf and triple think/read over what I write before I post. Again, my apoligy. Have a great day ..
  4. Good deal! I went to my school and talked with them today and they laid it all out for me, heh. Their Nursing Program is an ADN. After I complete this I can sign up to take the NCLEX-RN. Or, if I wanted to get my LPN first and work as an LPN (don't see why I'd do that .. might as well go all the way, right?) .. I could stop at a certain point and take the NCLEX-PN and become an LPN. I have 5 divisions to go through (or terms). Once I complete the 1st and 2nd divisions (terms) I am allowed to test for the LPN .. if I complete terms 3, 4 and 5 .. I can test for the RN. Hellllllo Nurse, I am glad you are enjoying my posts. :) I feel many others are too, ha! Though tonight I'm a bit fiesty. We're surrounded by idgets and I dunno what we can do! :chuckle Thanks to everyone for their input and advice. Love y'all ..
  5. Dang I love you people! Thanks for the input and setting me straight. Only other thing .. if I'm signing up on the waiting list for my school "Nursing Program" as they call it .. that'll give me what? All I know is they told me that once I finish with the program, I will be eligible to take the test to be an LPN or an RN .. so no matter how you get it .. if you're an RN .. you're an RN, right?
  6. Okay. I seriously looked around for an answer to this on the boards BEFORE I decided to make a thread, haha! That way, there would be no caused aggrivation, heh. I might just flare a fire I don't want to .. heh. Two questions: What does all this abbreviation mean when y'all refer to ADN, LVN .. things like that. I have several, several bookmarks to pages that deal with abbreviations but, they don't state abbreviations for JOB titles, heh. I know what a CNA, LPN and RN is. Haha! But that's it. Somebody help me. Anyone have a link to a site that'll explain this for me? Or can someone jot down their knowledge of the matter and gimme the extended meanings of these positions so I know what they mean/are. :) Secondly, I just read on some thread that the average age of the RN if 46 (I think that's what it said). Uh .. I'm so only 20. When I finish school and graduate with my RN probably within the next four years .. will uhm, I not be able to be an RN until I'm 40-something? Or does the RN position become available to you as you gain the experience. I would hope to God it doesn't take me 20 years to acquire the RN title. =/
  7. Ah .. crap. =/ I am going to look into taking a class or two of chemistry I guess than. After having read this post I'm assuming it'd be a good idea. When I talked to the Admissions Rep at my school he told me I could replace the chemistry with other math/science courses/classes if I didn't want to take chemistry. Maybe I shouldn't avoid chemistry than? Blah, heh. I'll have to take the first one as a very basic though becuase I avoided chemistry in HS, ha! =/ Now I'm kicking myself in the butt for it if chemistry is this important/crucial to my nursing career. Heh.
  8. Thank you for your replies. I am going to assume that any classes I can take in regards to nursing will be of aid to me, correct? So I can just pick and choose the ones to take or are there specific classes you think I should take regarding certain subjects? I recently went to Barnes & Nobles here where I'm at and I bought several books that I think will help me. A couple that I got were, "Gray's Anatomy" - which I have heard is a good (and much refered) one. I also got one that will go along with my CNA studyguide I got for school coming up. Also, I looked for a terminology book. I'm considering purchasing the following but, am unsure as to whether these would be the best ones to get: Medical Terminology with Human Anatomy http://search.barnesandnoble.com/textbooks/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?userid=2XRA24XTV3&isbn=0838562744&TXT=Y&itm=1 Webster's New World Medical Dictionary http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?userid=2XRA24XTV3&endeca=1&isbn=0764524615&itm=9 Taber's Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary (Thumb Indexed) http://search.barnesandnoble.com/textbooks/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?userid=2XRA24XTV3&isbn=0803606540&TXT=Y&itm=1 I'm thinking these might be of some use to me .. what do you guys think? And what others could/would you suggest?
  9. No worries. I will become a nurse .. and thank you for your best wishes in my regards. I appreciate them. I wasn't attempting to upset anyone with my reply. However, I did see the absolute need to defend this one who posted. Why could people have posted their replies in the manner you did with this last reply rather than telling him/her .. "don't be a nurse." It would have been just as easy to state, "Probably not, there are alway 'yuckies' in the field of Nursing." Easily, plainly stated .. and bingo - your point is made, question answered. Do you see where I'm coming from? Oh .. and thank you for your reply SmilingBluEyes. Of all the reviews this post had you were the only one to reply. Thank you for having the fortitude and the courage to stand up for yourself and make a stand for what you stated. :) I respect you moreso now for it. Good bye, friend ..
  10. Phew! I'm going to take this post and learn from it. I know one day I will be in these same shoes and feel so overwhelmed that it seems I'm wondering/thinking the same things running through this person's mind. milly, I truly wish you the best of luck. I have had nothing but good advice from the people here on this board. I have fallen in love with them and their help/advice. Keep on keepin' on, friend! :) You will overcome. Let everyone know how things are going, alright? :)
  11. I went to my school today and spent a couple of hours talking with the Admissions Rep and got everything situated and ready to go. I was given a list of four or five things I have to still do before I can register for the Nursing Program at my school. Once I finish those I'm set and I'm registered for everything to take place. Problem: There's a two year waiting list, ha! Yeah. So while I'm waiting for my name to come up on the list I'm wondering what courses/classes others would advise me to take while I'm waiting. I'm seriously considered getting my A.A.S. all together and completed and by the time I wrap all that up it'll be time to start my actual RN training. However, I'm wondering if I shouldn't actually do that and just take prep classes .. things that will definitely prepare me and get me set for the RN program. Advice?
  12. I wonder if that's because he/she is too scared to come back. Either he/she is under a new nick now (no way to tell unless you tracked the IP) or this person just completely left the boards. If I make enemies with this reply .. so be it. I tend to really not care if people like what I say or not. So shall my speech begin: To those who posted the comments of and relating to, "..then you shouldn't be a nurse .." This individual posted a message to the public seeking help and advice. And all you had to say was, "find another job?" You are the people who cause the fear of asking questions. People ask questions (majority of the time) because they seek an honest, heartfelt answer; not a discriminating, downgrading, criticized reply of how low they are and how stupid they should feel. Next time: try to answer the question as if you had asked it. Think about how you would appreciate the replies and what would help you. To those who posted in a means of aid/help and didn't fall to some undying oppurtunity to slam this person .. :|: Thank you. He/She appreciates this, I guarantee it. However, I fear the horrid flames he recieved has burned him/her too badly at this point to have done any good. And to the original poster: I am sorry. Unfortunately, you now have been introduced (unknowingly and against your will, I'm sure) to the pack of wolves (one of many, many) who will leap towards and devour "fresh meat" the very first chance they get. Good luck with your endeavors and take my original reply in regards to possible jobs available to you with your knowledge and training as what it was meant for: a means of aid/help. edited for violation of terms of service
  13. Very funny .. ass. Hehe .. hey you should get an IM. I replied to your PM you sent me on allnurses.com. Do you have an IM? I've got Yahoo, MSN and AIM. All nicks are the same: coffeejavule You should PM me. Or click my nick on my signature and e-mail me sometime, heh. :) [email protected]

Oh my god! I just noticed there is an Iowa Forum! There's not forums for the state of "Iowa" ANYWHERE! Ha! Sorry, I'm very shocked!! I'm here in Des Moines and I'm actually getting ready to start classes for my CNA and then I'm gonna be applying for a job. Any tips guys? Like, my resume` doesn't have jack on it for medical criteria. =/ Bleh, it's all pretty much customer service, accounting, office and call center stuff. *sigh* Also .. is it a good idea to go to DMACC here in Des Moines or should I look somewhere else? I'm planning on attending DMACC for my CNA classes. But what about when I get ready to start for my A.S. and my RN? I know DMACC has a two year waiting list for their Nursing Program. But I'm thinking if I get my A.S. there than I'm in good shape because right around the time I get that, I'll be able to slide right into the Nursing Program. Thoughts, guys? ..

Hey .. I was thinkin' about this earlier today and it just dawned on me as I was looking online at a bunch of scrub uniform sites. Once I get my CNA and I start working can I wear any scrubs I want? Does it just depend on the place you work at? Do they assign you scrubs? Or can I buy some neat ones for myself?
  16. Haha .. funny funny stuff! Okay, yeah well .. *goes back to his lonesome corner* I guess I'll shut up now and go back to my own little corner and keep carryin' my flag high as hell! :) *waves flag furiously* (My flag says, "Newbie's ROCK!!" and it has a stickman figure of myself on it, thx.) :roll

Skirt and a blouse! :) But then again, I have a biased opinion. I'm a guy and I think girls are so cute in skirts. Oh!! Wear your hair DOWN, thx! I probably have NO business replying to this, haha! But hey, I couldn't resist. I AM a guy ya know! :) Besides, I was trying to be a little funny. (I promise I won't quit my day job guys!)
  18. Teehee .. girls = icky icky bad bad. Well, at least right NOW in my life. :) The day will come .. I assure you! Heh. And in regards to having things planned out .. blah. I wished I'd done all this earlier. I've always had my head screwed on really good coming from a military family all my life. Unfortunately, when I moved out on my own I got .. side-tracked, yes. It took about a year for me to learn my lesson and realize my life was going absolutely no where running the track I was at that time, bleh! All is good now .. mistake(s) made and lesson(s) learned. All you can do is make the best of them. Everything happens for a reason. The only good thing I can think of that came from this is that I didn't finish school and go into Networking/Web Design (which was my major for a year and a half before I dropped out and decided to "party-it-up" Good luck to YOU friend. I know you will make the best decision for yourself and I wish you only the best! Keep in touch! :) It's good to know someone else is out there in my shoes starting from the beginning and figure all of this out ..
  19. Oh .. my god. yet :) Wow. That's all I can say. That .. was inspirational. Like the many thanks bestowed to you already, thank you .. so much for that true story you have shared. I hope I will touch someone's life as you have with James'. God bless you, mother/babyRN.
  20. Oh and hey friend .. I have talked to several, several Nurses as well as head-hunters for Hospitals, Nursing Homes, etc .. and I haven't had one person respong negatively in any way when I have talked to them about my plans. In fact, they (and I kid you not) .. ALL of them have told me that "if you can manage it and stay focused you'll come out better in the end for it if you work a CNA position while you're school." One, you're getting the knowledge from school (learning something new everyday). Two, you're gaining the experience that (unfortunately, these days) everyone wants before deciding to hire you. Why get all the way through school and STILL have to work two or three years as a CNA when you have the qualifications for an RN or whatnot when you can simply work as a CNA and be gaining that much needed experience WHILE in school? :) One more thing .. if you didn't want to work full time at as a CNA there are TONS of places out there (I know Nursing Homes for a certainty - not sure on hospitals though) that will hire you on a "weekend-package." You work the weekends, make $12-15 an hour over the weekend and you can get a little experience that way too. Personally, I don't want that. I want a full-time. :) But it's up to you, friend!
  21. Jrnalist2RNinOR, I am scheduled to start my CNA class on December 1st. I'm taking an advanced method and I'm knocking all my classes and stuff for it in a two week period. I didn't want to take the three months training. God, I'd feel like I was never getting there. It's probably actually going to take me a month instead of two weeks now because I'm switching to the 120-hour course instead of the 75-hour. However, here is my view on it. I am going to get my CNA certification and then I'm getting a job somewhere (I'm leaning more towards a Nursing Home right now but, I have my reasonings and that's my prerogative and choosing). After that I am fully planning on working for two or three months to make absolutely sure that this is what I want to do and if it is then I'm getting started with school again. I'm going to sign up for the Nursing Program at my local Community College and get started on my A.S. degree. (There's a two year waiting list right now at my ComCollege so it'll be perfect timing - or very near to it.) Now, I am also a single guy though. No wife, no children .. haha, not even a girlfriend (no time, heh). I'm keeping all my distractions two miles away and I'm making a "b-line" straight for my goals and plans. I'll worry about everything else after the major pieces of my puzzle have been put into place. I've worked full time and gone to school full time before. It's tough .. it's very tough. At times (okay, possibly the majority of the times) it's absolutely no fun. But keeping your eyes on the goal and stayin focused is your key. You can do anything, ANYTHING you put your mind to!! :) There ya have it. See ya on the boards ..
  22. Sounds to me like skybirdrising was simply asking an honest question. Yes, the obvious is a given .. why should this person so-choose this career if he/she ended up not liking it. Perhaps skybirdrising was simply testing the waters to see what it would be like. Now he/she may be re-thinking the options and realizing that it's not for him/her. Perhaps people should lay off for a little bit, thanks. Enough's enough. =/ skybirdrising, there are in fact other avenues of employment you could possibly seek still within the medical field. I know two different nurses, personally, who have went into the Insurance field because of their backgrounds with school and they have simply taken a few insurance courses and are now in that field. I don't know if that'd be something of interest to you or not. If not insurance, you can surely get in with some sort of office position like claims, reports, or even the person that take the calls from the insurance people when they call the hospitals for certain verification and information (can't remember their titles, heh). This may have helped you. It may have been completely useless, ha! But I tried. Though I must say .. I would definitely NOT be treading the path towards a Physicians Asst. if you're not diggin' the dirt you're seein' now. Ya know? Good luck, friend!
  23. Agreed. If you're willing to sign it in order to get the job than I guess one should be prepared to have their history checked thouroughly. I guess one should only have an issue with signing it if they have a history of mistakes or some sort. And I'm sure you, medmama will have no problem whatsoever! :) Good point, chad75!
  24. These posts (the entire thread actually) has made me realize that I cannot afford to try and just whiz by on classes that I may not care for or that perhaps I'm really good at and don't think I need "every single thing" on. I'm going to make sure I'm focused, I'm alert and I'm giving all attention to what's going on in classes and clinicals. I am sorry for your unfortunate news, marelle. I know the kind people here from these forums have given you undoubtly wonderful advice though. Keep your head and chin up high. Everything, everything happens for a reason. :) All and anything that happens in your life either breaks you or makes you, builds you or binds you. This just means that there's something better out there for you or there's a tad bit more you might wanna look into doing. :) Good luck, friend!
