OR reference textbooks?
I start my OR position with classroom hours July 20 and was wondering what textbooks you might be able to recommend to me which helped you be better educated for your position. I did a search on here and only found 2 books which were: Alexanders ?? Essentials of Perioperative Nursing by Cynthia Spry Any advice and suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Does Kaplan make you read into the answer on the NCLEX?
i took kaplan-my school made it mandatory in order to graduate-i have no complaints, it was a good program..i think the teacher of it makes the class. just like any other course if they are there to teach or for the money youll know. kaplan will let you learn more about the question but will never read into the question goodluck!

7 Months of Searching: Still No Job, About To Give Up
I had the same problem. I grad Dec 07 finally got licensed in May 08 (gotta love the state losing my paper work) but couldn't find a job in the Northern IL/Southern WI area. It just so happen my bf got a job offer down south still in IL and there are positions there and in St. Louis where they are not experiencing the "no hire/no pay raise" crap.....good luck! keep your head up I know it get so fustrating

I can't make up my mind..med surg vs telemetry
So here's my predicament. I am a new grad nurse who really wants an OR position but all that is offered to me at the moment is a Med-surg or telemetry position. All weekend I have been going back and forth as to what might be best for me. The positions are both 12 hr nights, eventually a 6 pt load.....staff seem friendly/helpful on both floors in passing. I was hoping to get back to the recruiter on Monday being tomorrow but I really feel I need one more day to think about it. My interview as last wed and thurs. I think one thing that is swaying me toward cardiac is that I had interviewed with some of the nurses on that floor, where as I was not able to meet with the med-surg nurses because of a time crunch. Any suggestions for a new grad nurse? With this position I am making my first big move away from home which is an additional small stressor, so Im trying to not completely overwhelm myself...so now the real world beings lol thanks for any input ahead of time.

IL License Renewal Questions
Alright I have a couple questions and thought I might be able to get some things straightened out on here. First off I am a "new" nurse, I graduated w/ my BSN in December, had troubles w/ paperwork and the NCLEX but got licensed in May, been looking for a job since. I've had about 5 interviews and have found a lot of places are on hiring freezes and even letting handfuls of people go with the way the economy is. Question 1: Even tho I am licensed and complete my CE, when renewal time comes am I going to have to retake the NCLEX if I havn't been "active"? Question 2: How does renewal in the State of Illinois work? I know its' new and we have to complete 20 contact hours (which I almost have done just trying to keep in the loop since I can't find a job), but are we just to mail in our certificates of completion near our renewal date? Hummm I knew there was something else but now I can't think of it... Hope everyones staying warm, I love the snow but can't stand this below zero weather. :)
