  1. ADN vs. BSN could debate to the very end. Education is always good like they say knowledge is power. But the truth is and I have been asked this questioned many times before; Why get a BSN if you can get an ADN faster and for less money? You' re still an RN right what's the difference?. Someone pointed out that a pharmacist or PT had doctorate level programs true but they have no choice about which programs they could take also look at the salary scale for these professions. A nurse my get a phd or a masters and make they same amt. of money as the adn or bsn prepared nurse where is the incentive. While money is not everything it does play its part. The average person does not know the difference between a hha, cna, lpn,rn to them we are all nurses. IMHO experience beats a degree any day as well as who you know. Do you need to have a BSN to get non-clinical jobs ? no Will it probaly help? maybe. Like many people said before alot of nursing is learned on the job. So experience plays a major role in the type of positons that may be available to you in the future not neccasirily the degree. Who knows maybe in many, many years to come the entry level for nursing may be become an MSN. Ex;I remember when the PA used to be a certificate program.
  2. Do u work for the company directly or are u an independent contractor? I would like to do something similar in NY.
  3. I am currently interested in doing the same thing here in the state I live in. Did you find the process difficult?
  4. The job is doing good. From the first day I knew this is where I belonged, it just feels right. So I guess it was the best decision after all. At first I felt like after all the hard work I put in at school I needed to make a certain amt.of money. But after I started and received such a warm welcome I felt like I was at home. So to me it makes it worthwhile. Thanks for caring.:)
  5. I am currently a new ADN grad. I like nursing but I think I prefer non hospital/LTC environment.I was a lpn so getting my RN was a natural progression for me I guess. My question is I would like to obtain a MBA or some type of business degree that is health related; Is it necessary to obtain my BSN then my mba or just try and go straight to the business degree? Im glad I obtained my degree but I would like to eventually transition out of the field but still remain in health care it is not something I can see doing forthe rest of my life.
  6. Thank you all for the advice, I will take the position. I agree workingmomRN last night I prayed so that I would be led in the right direction so I agree with you. Several years ago I never thought I be an RN but here I am. Hopefully it will open the right doors. I just did not want to have difficulty transitioning later on. I feel much better about my decsion now.:)
  7. I'm sure this has been said many a time I am in the NY area and jobs are scarce especially as new grad. I thought when I obtained my license I would have some many options but I realize I don't.I have been applying everywhere with some success.I really wanted a position in a hospital but I have been interviewing only to be told they are on a hiring freeze or something else but they are interested in hiring me they just don't know when. The process is taking so long it seems like 1 month lag between applying and obtaining an interview and another couple of weeks after that to hear anythhing back. I have been offered a position in community health mainly paperwork/case mangement/foster care no clinical. The pay is not the best but it is m-f no weekends. Should I wait to see if I get any hospital positions or just take the job? I would hate to take the job then have to leave.Secondly if i do take the community health position what other career options would I have in the future?
