  1. OH MY GOSH!!! I was just wondering the same thing. I'm leaving my current job for a clinic RN job as I too want to become an FNP! So glad I saw this. Thanks OP
  2. So, I got my dream job! I was able to get a job in one of the best primary care clinics in the county! I really thought I had blown the interview mainly because most of my career has been in surgery or ambulatory surgery. I am really happy and they seemed really impressed that i was considering getting my DNP. What I need to hear from you is suggestions as to what I need to buckle down and review/study before I start in 2 weeks. I am so excited about this new chapter in my life, and I will be working with a patient's from ped's to geriatrics. Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated! I'm so excited, I can't hardly sit still and wait for my husband to come home so I can tell him! Thanks!
  3. Thanks Chare!
  4. So a little background, I worked in an ambulatory surgery center doing minor procedures, mostly hands, podiatry, and endo for a little under 2 years. The place was in serious finacial trouble and I was looking to branch out and by luck was able to gain a position at the local hospital in surgery. after being there for 9 months now I know it is not for me. I realized a few months in that I wasn't really happy with the position but had hoped as time went on I would learn to like it. The training wasn't all that great and I was left on my own sooner than I thought I was ready. I feel like most of my job consists of charting, hooking up machines and going to get supplies that are needed. I am not trying to belittle surgical nursing in any way, it is an important job, just not enough patient contact for me. I miss talking to patients, I miss doing assessments, going over medication lists, discharge teaching, finding out about what made them sick, caused the injury, etc. I never really get to talk to my patients except for finding out the last time they ate or drank, etc. I have always wanted to work in the ED and but sort of fell into surgery after completing my AA degree and the surgery center allowed me to finish my BSN. I am not really sure how happy my boss would be if I approached her about transferring and I am somewhat afraid of losing my job in the process. Do any of you have any suggestions on the best way to transition into the ED. Things that might give me a leg up? Would it help to gain some type of certification and then apply?
  5. How were you able to sign up for the class and how much did it cost? I was considering doing the same thing, so I can move into a different specialty. Thanks :)
  6. Just an update, l put in for an OR position at the local hospital when it came up a few weeks after the original post and was called for an interview 2 days later. They offered me the job for a lot more money than I am making now and are willing to train me in larger more difficult surgeries including trauma. I truly can't believe it. So I'm a little sad to be leaving my current OR position at the ASC, but somewhat terrified and excited to be moving into a new position. Kind of like moving to a new school and having to make friends all over again. As a bonus the hospital is so close I can walk to work in less than 5 minutes! Thanks for the encouragement to get out there and find something else before I went down with the ship. You guys are fantastic!
  7. I guess I was just hoping things would turn around but we are ordering things like one box of sutures at a time, etc, as we are having a hard time ordering like we used to, such as by the case. I think lately we are barley breaking even every month. I guess today I breakout the old resume and bring it up to date. Thanks pfchang.
  8. So I work in an ASC and things are getting rough financially for our facility. We are privately owned and the balance in our checking account is beyond low according to our bookkeeper. We have had a couple of doctors leave our facility and go to the hospital because they offered them a lot more money/benefits. If a piece of equipment breaks down one more time it will probably put us under. Every time she does payroll she says that we are getting way to close for comfort. It is not going to get any better from what our bosses are saying, but they said they won't go down without a fight. In reality the owners don't seem to really care if we close as they are pretty much ready to retire and we never see or hear from them anyways. My question is I love the people I work with but, do I go down with the ship or should I jump ship so to say before I go to work one day and find the doors locked shut. Thanks guys.
  9. I am not sure about the policy of the place you interviewed at but I work in an ambulatory surgery center that has multiple specialties including eyes. When I ask someone to come job shadow for a few hours to see expose them to what we do in a given day, they have to change into a pair of our scrubs that are professionally laundered. I would call because I'm pretty laid back and don't really care what they show up in as long as its not shorts and flip flops. Business casual is just fine.
  10. I also received my paperwork this week but I have been busy with work (Noc shift) and did not receive it in time to call and ask about proctored exams. Since a few of you already take classes there can someone tell me how this is done? Through Pearson Vue or through some other route? Thanks for the information. Hope everyone is having a great weekend and Congrats on getting in.
  11. So do either one of you have any recommendations for should that have both? I'm beginning to wonder if she is right and maybe I should look for another school. I was accepted into the University of Wyoming. I chose this school because it was online, CCNE accredited, and because of the price. Now I'm beginning to panic. GULP!!!
  12. I have been accepted into two different programs. Both are CCNE accredited but someone from work said she chose not to go to one of the schools because they didn't have all the "right" Accreditation. She stated that the school she chose had a whole list of accreditation that the the cheaper one did not. Could someone please tell me if I really need to be concerned or is CCNE enough. Thanks
  13. That would be great. I didn't know that the WY constitution class was closed already. Darn! hahaha
  14. I am so glad that I found this board and have started to ask questions. I feel so much more at ease about this whole process. Thank you for answering my question. I was beginning to think that there weren't very many people that chose UW and I wasn't sure why. The cost is a lot cheaper compared to other programs out there, and the workload seems doable while working.
  15. MsPC, by tablet do you mean something like a kindle or more like an iPad?
  16. Wow, you guys give me hope. I was thinking about asking my job if I could drop down to PRN or part-time, 30 hours a week would be awesome for me. Thanks you guys for your help. If you have any suggestions or study tips I would appreciate that too! Now I can't wait for school to start. hahaha:lol2:
  17. Ok, so maybe my last question was a little to specific. So let me try this again. lol Just looking for suggestions on how you balance out work and school. How many of you work full-time? Part-time? How to do balance out family, work, and school. I have never taken an online class before, however I have had to submit assignments online. I guess I just want to know is is possible to go to school online, work and still have some sort of life. Thanks!

  19. Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone here has done the University of Wyoming online program? If you did how did you find it? Hard? Easy? Somewhere in between? Also, did you work at the same time and how much? I would like to try to get through the program without taking out additional loans so I am trying to gauge if I could still work full-time. Even if you didn't go to UW online but are just looking in to see the answerss, how many of you worked while going full-time online and what were the pro's and cons of doing that. I would really appreciate any help I can get. I'm starting to get that panicked, am I ready for all of this again. Thanks everyone! Hope you have a great weekend!
  20. I was just wondering how days off are rotated in and out in your facilities? Where I am we work 4 on 2 off so we don't get any weekend time off for 6 weeks, and when it does roll around most of the time it seems to be our on call weekends so we end up working anyways. So, how often do you guys get days off and how do your rotations work? Do you have set days off, work 12 hour shifts, etc before you are rotated into a weekend off? Thanks!
  21. Ok, this is going to sound like a strange question but, I was researching online programs for RN-BSN degrees and I can't remember which school site I was at but they stated they used Providence Hospital Everett as their clinical site. Well then I called called into work and totally spaced saving to my bookmarks our writing it down and by the time I came back home 12 hours later I couldn't remember which school it was. I know I could have gone through my browsers history but, my kids in there attempt to help with how slow my computer was running deleted the cache and browser history after running spyware and virus software. (Aren't they sweet!) If any one out there has any information that might help me locate that school I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks
  22. Hi everyone, I realize that this board doesn't get the same amount of traffic as some of the other states, but I was hoping that someone might take a peak and be able to respond. I am looking for information about the RN-BSN program. It is my understanding that it is done online and I was wondering if you found it difficult and by difficult I don't just mean the work, I mean were classes easily accessible, information for assignments easy to understand and find, was it difficult to get help if you needed it? Was there a lot of paper writing, group work, etc? Also, how were the clinicals? Any other suggestions that might help? I will be taking stats over the summer online and I am not really sure but I think I may still need one more chem class (ugh!) because I got my original license out of state. Thanks for any help or information you can share.
  23. I was wondering if some of you might tell me how hard it was to find clinical hours in your area if you are not in Wyoming. Also, how many clinical hours are required?
  24. I'm actually looking at going back to school to become ANYTHING else. Really hate my job and career choice and every single day I have to go to work I can't help but think. What the h e double hockey sticks was I thinking?
