  1. the reason i asked this question in the beginning was that it is mandated at our hospital and i have be drilled on it and called into supervisors office a few times and i just dont agree with it especially in semi-private rooms. as a nurse we are to give the best care at the maximum efficiency and giving an oncoming nurse a report that is simplyfied down enough that the patient and family can understand it is EXTREMELY time consuming. and on our floor where night nurse has 7 pt and day nurse has 4, which means that i have to give report to at least 3 nurses, will take if done per hospital protocol at least an hour. and it may not be a hippa violation but i do not like giving out patient info with another person or family less than 5 feet away that can hear every word said.
  2. the hospital i work for recently started bedside reporting, i'm not a big fan of it, and i was just wondering if any other hospitals out there have started to doing bedside reporting at shift change...if so what are your thoughts on it? good or bad? if not what do u think about it possibly being instituted at hospitals?
  3. i'm still new to the unique universe known as nursing but im somewhat of an over achiever so i been reading through articles on here thinking about "what kinda certifications and specialty areas are available to RNs besides going on for a Masters?" i.e. CCRN, PICC nurse, WOC nurse? anybody know anything else because im open to any and all ideas
  4. i work on the surgery unit at the oaks. i personally think its a great unit to work on. its work of course..always at least 5 pts but RARELY over 6. i've only had 7 pts maybe 3 times. but when you do get the increase workload our charges usually set u up with an easier group. and the aids and techs are GRRREAT. and pain meds are definately the most common things to push. but we get to see some of all the pts from icu to medicine to tele and even hdc pts. but i work night and i can personally say things are a lot different between nights and days. of course im partial to the night crew because i work with them but i dont really see working any where else in the near future. u planning on days, nights, WOW, etc?
