  1. Hello! I am thinking of moving back to Calif next year and am particularly interested in St Joseph in Orange, CA. I have 5.5 years of experience in cardiac stepdown, MICU, and the OR as a circulator (no scrub). Can anyone give me the salary range for an RNII position in those areas? It would be a little easier to knowing cost of living and salaries. Thank you!

  3. I have always been told that I needed at least 1 year in my specialty to travel (I'm an OR circulator). I was looking forward to beginning my traveling career but recently told I actually need 2 years experience. What a bummer. Now I have to wait another year. Did any of you start traveling after only 1 year of experience in your specialty? Is it difficulty to find assignments?
  4. I've been an OR nurse for 9 months now. I work for a small hospital and currently we have a limited staff. The RNs are taking 9-10 call days a month because we are short staffed. Management has been trying to hire more staff, but no luck. Often I can work 8-12 hours with no breaks or lunches (Mon-Fri). One call weekend I only had 4 hours of sleep between Sat and Sun, then back at work on Monday with no break or lunch. It's wearing me out. I'm curious, is this how most ORs operate?
  5. An educator at a hospital told me that Kaplan aims very high (scoring 65 or greater) and that scoring in the 50s is a good indicator of passing as well. I was freaked out at first but then calmed down. I was scoring in the low 50s then started moving into high 50s to low 60s, occasionally 70s. I scored 58 on trainer 6 and 59 on trainer 7. I did most of the Q bank questions and always reviewed the rationale (most important). You made it through nursing school-you can do this. Studying 10 hours per day is not profitable and only stresses you out more. Cut way back. I was even advised to take a day off from studying each week, and not to study at all the day before NCLEX, just relax. So, I went to the movies, shopped, relaxed. Remember that you will NEVER know every single question. No one will ever know the answers to every question. This test is for minimal competancy. I took the NCLEX last week and it reminded me of the Kaplan questions. I took my time, got 91 questions and the computer shut off. Praise God I passed! You CAN do this!
  6. Gecko27, Thanks for the heads up. I will be working only on the weekends but the hours are very flexible. I'm pretty sure I can work as little or as much as I'd like. I'll wait until OU provides the schedules before I commit to set hours. I sure appreciate the wisdom of those who have gone before me.
  7. Actually, that does help. I just wanted an idea of the schedule. I'll just hold on to my horse and get ready for a wild ride! But I know I can do it. I just tell myself "only two years and you'll be a nurse".
  8. I will be attending OU Tulsa this August and wondered about the class schedule. I work as a Nurse Tech at a hospital and would like to work on the weekends. Don't know if my schedule will allow me to work any hours during the week also. Love to hear from you seniors and recent grads. Thanks!
  9. I was accepted into the TCC-OU Collaborative program! :roll
  10. I applied for the TCC-OU Collaborative and Traditional program. A week or so after I submitted my application, I spoke with someone in the Nursing Division in Tulsa who said they received a high volumn of applications and were pretty backed up. Notification could possiby go out any where from the end of March to the end of April. Surprisingly I' pretty calm, but I'll be screeming when I hear of my acceptance!
