ABG treatments?
Very cool. I am a new nurse, but love the respiratory pts. I work in progressive care so we get "stable" vents, vision Bi-pap, C-pap. I am in the beginning stages of learning respiratory so thanks for taking time to educate, we need you. I printed the link and will enjoy studying.

Please help me figure out what happened to my pt
Same question? How long are your breaks? Next question, or comment is what is "NightinFAIL"? As far as the pt...BIG FAT PE.

ABG treatments?
What is a max tidal volume without causing damage to the lungs? You see 500-650 as the norm, and in my very young career I haven't questioned that yet. Thanks for the quick lesson. I love this site because of the access to all of the experience!!!!!!

My nursing judgement call.....thoughts?
A charge nurse that makes you feel badly about being safe rather than sorry needs to be reminded of what it is like to be in your shoes.

Organizing the day shift (transition from nights)
Great information there. Very good idea to get to the unit as early as 0630 to get your data organized for report. I think staying ahead of the day is the best bet. No matter how you roll, you are going to get your ass handed to you on either shift. The reason its called "nursing" is because "stressed out and ready to have a stroke" was already taken.

Organizing the day shift (transition from nights)
The first hour of your day sets the tone for the rest of the shift. Getting report, vitals, assessment, and meds passed by 10am is the benchmark that I use. Some days I get it some days I don't. Good luck to you!!

care plan
If a patient is verbalizing, how is that considered dysfunctional or complicated. I would think denying feelings would be dysfunctional.

Any CNA advice would be helpful!
I am in Bradenton so, not far from you. I took a 6 week CNA course through a local ALF. The course was free I just paid the applicable state fees and sat for the test. The 2 week classes and weekend classes that promise you a CNA in a short time are legit but very risky. They don't tell you that in order to pass the skills section of the CNA you have to practice over and over until all the skills are 2nd nature. Good luck and GO FOR IT! As for the pay, I only make $10/hour as a CNA. I am currently working on my pre reqs and start Nursing core classes in September. I have been told that after I start the core I will be able to get on at a Hospital and have the opportunity to earn $14-$16/hour while in school.
