hey everyone! i am moving to the centennial co area in february. my husbands company is transferring him. i am currently an lvn and i just finished updating my pre-reqs for the lvn-rn transition program here. our programs are competetive, and based on my grades i have a really good chance of getting in....but...now i am not going to be here. so....i have been looking online trying to find schools in the denver area that have lpn to rn transition programs. i only found 2 or 3. i am willing to drive to the boonies if need be to get to school. can someone give me some names of schools that offer this program. also, how is the job situation for lpns there? i have been looking online and it doesnt look to good. i have 7 years experience as an er nurse. i realize it isnt likely that i will find that there. but maybe in an urgent care facility. also, does anyone know if there are jobs for lpns with staffing agencies or per diem positions? any tips or advice on living in co would be much appreciated. my husband, kids, and i have lived on the gulf coast in texas our whole lives and the change is going to be huge..but an adventure.:heartbeat

Many hospitals in my area only accept applications for posted jobs, and you can only apply online. Start by searching the websites of hospitals in your area. Apply and upload your resume there. Then go to websites like Career Builder and Monster and look and apply there. Next, take copies of your resume and dress proffessionally, visit doctors offices and other facilities in your area that are independantly owned and dont have websites to apply on. Keep track of who you apply too, contact numbers etc. Follow up by calling back if you dont hear anything after 7-10 days. Except if a company specifically states that they dont want phone calls. Even if you get an interview with one or two places, dont forget to contact other places that you applied to. It's not over until you actually have a job. For interviews...professionalism and punctuality are absolute neccesities. If you use your cell phone as your contact number, make sure you dont have one of those ring-back tones and your voicemail message is simple and professional. You dont want to lose an opportunity because of something that causes the HR person to think you are still a kid.

in houston, there are lots of jobs available for lvns. hospitals seem to go in cycles where they wont hire lvns for a few months, and then they will. they want to go all rn, but the fact is, there arent enough rns to meet the demands. doctors offices hire lvns, as do ltacs and nursing homes. home health and agency also always seem to have room for lvns. houston is a great place to live if you are in healthcare because it is a huge city with lots of hospitals, etc. there are also many lvn-rn transition programs available here. at least 9 that i can think of right off hand, in community colleges alone. there are a few in the larger universities as well.
