  1. rule of thumb: No "P" no "K"
  2. RN new grad ! Picc line occlusion: Anyone ever deal with a picc line occlusion. Used activase per hospital protocol without success. The protocol uses 3 way stopcox to apply negative pressure to the line then turning to allow activase to be pulled into the line. Wait 2 hrs, apply gentle suction with 10cc syringe, attempt to aspirate 5mls. then flush if successful. If not, repeat activase again, repeat suction, then call MD if unsuccessful. This did not work! What do the other facilities do? Would like to benefit from those more experienced.
  3. It is never to late!!!! I am 53 and just graduated RN. While my kids were in school, I took my pre-recs one at a time. I had to work full time to help support our family, and could not committ to full time school during that time. After a lot of years, I finally completed the nursing program!! Hurray!! Better to keep moving forward toward a goal slowly, than to not pursue a goal at all. Each step takes you that much closer. Good luck with your family and your educational pursuits. The only advice I have is, Your success will totally depend on your husband or significant other support. This is a big, huge, factor!!!! I could not have done the program without my husbands support.(cooking, cleaning, earning money, understanding!):)
  4. I am a new grad working on med-surg oncology. I had an order to flush a JP with a 10cc syringe. I asked several nurses how to do the procedure and got two different answers. One, just flush the NS through the tube leaving solution in the wound to be drained by the JP. Second, flush, then withdraw without pressure amt. of solution that easily flows back, allowing the rest to drain out into the JP. Which one is correct?
