  1. i once had a coworker with a terrible BO problem who came from another country. i have worked with a total of 4 people with BO problems. they all came from the same continent. im not stating that americans do not have the same issues...but im reflecting that the majority of people i've encountered with body odors tend to come from a particular continent. the odor was horrible. I never mustered up the courage to tell them about their odor..my 11 year old daughter informed me about a classmate of hers that comes to school smelly...so does her brother..and one time when her mom was called to come to school..she too was smelling real bad...my question is...how could do you tell a person about their hygiene without putting them on the defense? i am not picking on any particular group..im just stating my observation
  2. i graduated from an LPN program in 08 at the age of 47. I will be 49 this year and am enrolled in a BSN program. yes. i felt old in the beginning, but now i just feel good about myself for taking the initiative and pursuing my dreams. good luck to all of you. dont let your age stop you:yeah:
  3. Babylady....do you know the extent of the emotional as well as physical pain this nurse is enduring? even though her finger was reconstructed, it is of no use to her..meaning..its a permanent loss..how well can she perfom as a nurse if she's in excruciating pain? this woman went into this field to help..not get hurt, and as fellow nurses we need to support her..this could be one of us someday. it did sound as if you were downplaying this woman's injuries. she needs to use her hands to work with. if your finger ache all the time..how can you use it? how can you be a productive worker if you're constantly in pain? what should she do? pop oxycontin q4? this was a vicious and unnecessary act of violence..that bum deserves prison time and this nurse deserves emotional as well as financial compensation...my heart goes out to her family
  4. I too get those stupid calls. the dumbest request came from a patient's wife who was at the facility...she was in her husband's room and called the front desk to ask me to come to the room and interpret what her husband is trying to tell her...he'd just had a stroke...I had to remind her that for one...im not an interpreter, and two...if she doesn't understand what he's saying...how can she expect me to understand him...these people have no understanding of how busy we get.
  5. I work in a LTC. we suppose to have 4 nurses per 80 pts. at times, there are 3 nurses, sometimes only 2. we do not have time to chit chat on the phone. it is unreasonable for anyone to expect us to drop what we're doing just to answer phone calls. besides, a lot of those questions are stupid ones. i.e "do you know where's my mother's blue socks? i did not see them in her room last week". get the picture?
  6. yes, it is possible. however, most facilities would not accomodate you. they want experience nurses only. if I had known that, I would have worked as a CNA before graduating from the lpn program.
  7. Good luck sweetlemon. after a year or so of psych, you can always switch.
  8. Good points cobweb. I went on an interview 2 days ago. they decided to hire me. however, I will start as a CNA since this job deals with children who need intensive care. After one month or so, they said that they'll switch me to LPN status. then, I have to train for 3 months. They are waiting for my references before I can start. therefore, everything cobweb posted is correct. thanks a bunch!
  9. there's nothing wrong with you. its the economy. nurses that are working are experiencing cut backs in their hours. I attended a medical career fair yesteday just to be told (and over heard others) to be told that they are not hiring anyone currently. only one person in my class is working as an LPN. and that is because she was a CNA in the same hospital. keep your head up high and continue to apply. there is only one way to go from here....up
  10. Last week, I was called for a second interview. next wednesday, I have another interview from a different employer. that'll make it 3 interviews since I graduated in august of 08. at least things are looking up. lol.
  11. I am still applying at various places. I even attended a job fair last week. I have 2 more to attend this month. I too cannot wait 8 months to a year for a job. The nursing profession supposed to be a recession-proof profession. YEAH RIGHT! Good luck to everyone. we have no place to go but up.
  12. i live in maryland. I too am thinking about relocation but with kids and all, im trying to wait till feb to see if my luck changes. yesterday, i had a phone interview and next tuesday, im going to an open house with all my credentials on me.
  13. thanks everyone for your input. and yes, i am looking everywhere. as far as looking into hospitals now for Jan and Feb, that makes a lot of sense. I was told by someone that most places rarely hire nurses this time of year. hopefully, i'll find something real soon.
  14. thanks for your input. i am willing to work anywhere, for a year or so. just for the experience
