  1. In my area, BSN programs typically look at overall GPA and ADN programs look at grades only from specified prereqs. I used that to my advantage. My overall GPA isn't great but I had a 4.0 in prenursing classes so I applied to 2 ADN programs and was accepted to both. Look around at the criteria used at different schools. Find one that puts an emphasis on the areas you are strongest in.
  2. When I was a communications major, I did horrible in science classes. When I switched to prenursing I made As in A&P I & II and Micro because I knew I had to. If you go into the class knowing that grade can make or break your acceptance into a program, you'll be much more focused. A&P is definitely easier than nursing school though. If you had a multiple choice test in each class, the anatomy test would have one right answer among the choices. A nursing test would have 2-4 right answers and you have to choose the most important one for the particular situation.
  3. This is my 7th week and we've already lost some, too. A couple of people dropped for personal reasons and a few more didn't make it past our first dosage calculation exam (you get 2 tries to make a 90, if you don't get it, you're out right then). So far the best tip I've learned is to do all the practice questions at the end of the chapter as well as the ones on the CD ROM or website associated with the textbook.
  4. I'm not sure if anything has changed but for those of us that started this year, they only considered prereqs and PAX. There were no extra points for CNA or anything else. Make sure you attend one of the info sessions. They'll give you all the information! Good luck!
  5. I'm a legal assistant and you wouldn't believe how many of these people I talk to every week. People will try to retain a lawyer over anything these days.
  6. The best advice is definitely to buy a TEAS study guide. Take the practice test included and see which areas you should devote your time to.

I applied to an ADN program a technical college in Georgia and at one in South Carolina. I got in both and NEITHER looked at my overall GPA. They only looked at grades for their specific prereqs and whatever entrance exam they used (one uses TEAS and one uses PAX RN). My overall GPA is low, but I had all A's in my prereqs and excellent test scores, so it depends what criteria the specific program considers.
  8. Around Georgia and South Carolina, many state technical schools don't look at your overall GPA. They consider your nursing prerequisite grades and an entrance exam. I was accepted to both schools I applied to and my GPA is lower than yours. I just worked hard to get an A in all of my prereqs.
  9. My advice is to apply to as many programs as you could possibly see your yourself driving to (ADN or BSN). It would be better to get your ADN now than to wait and reapply every semester for a couple of years for your BSN.
  10. It is encouraged to finish all of your general classes before you start the nursing program so that you can focus solely on your nursing classes.
  11. I was also only required to complete the math and reading sections, and like the others, we were given scrap paper when we got there to test.
  12. Augusta Tech is a good deal cheaper, and that is one reason I chose it. Our entire semester's tuition is only about $1,000.00 and my Pell grant will cover it.
  13. Got mine this weekend too! Just need to finish all my health forms and CPR.
  14. We had to have completed A&P I&II, Micro, English I&II, Humanities, College Algebra, Psych, Sociology, and Computers. But decisions were made based 70% on grades from A&P I&II, Micro, Psych, College Algebra, and English 1101 (I had As in all of these, but in algebra I made a C then retook for an A) and 30% on the PAX-RN. Even though we had to do all parts of the PAX (math, verbal, and science), I actually did better on the PAX (97th percentile overall) than the TEAS (88.9 and 97.5).
  15. Congrats! I too had 23 points and was accepted. But I was also accepted to the program at Augusta Tech and it ends about 5 months quicker, is more affordable, and is closer to home for me, so I am going that route. I hope we both have nice teachers who would rather help than criticize!
