CHUX.
Our facility has a cloth-made washable pad instead of a chux pad. We do use those chux when the laundry machines break down, about 4-5 times a year. I can't imagine not having anything. I was unfolding a chux once, and I flipped it out (like you would a bed sheet) and it disintegrated in mid air. I felt so dumb, I'm not used to them I guess. We have been able to save money on disposable undergarments, though. I was changing a resident in bed, and as I rolled her over to pull out the other side of the undergarment it ripped in half. I'm so glad we are saving money, management is so smart. Bless their pointy little heads.

CNA to RN
A move in the right direction for sure. I've been a CNA for a year, and I'm in my second semster as a nursing student. While in my first rotation, many of my fellow students were awkward and timid at approaching a patient. Patient care was a whole new world for them. Part of being a nurse is getting up into someone's personal space, with confidence, and getting the job done. Being a CNA will give you that experience.

Does anyone here have or want tattoos???
I have a large tattoo on my right ankle. Roses, rose buds and a cross all joined together with vines that form the shape of a heart. It symbolizes what is important in my world; my faith, my spouse, my kids. Tattoos are addicting.

Nursing School Must Haves??
I have a little recorder that I use for all lectures. I have found it extremely helpful! Also, if you don't already have a PDA you may consider getting one. I was able to purchase my Davis Drug Guide, Mosby, and other applications directly to the PDA. This is handy in your clinical rotations when you need to quick reference something (a lab value, a drug etc.). Good Luck!!

Personal Toll of Nursing School
I'm a wife/mom with 3 kids going back to school. In carving out a career path to support my family, I find nursing school to be the toughest goal I've ever set for myself. I love the study, I love the patient care. However, it also takes a sacrifice only understood by other nursing students. I have recently dropped down to part time to pass Pharm, and realized that I haven't been putting enough time into my family. Nursing school will suck the life out of your personal world if you let it! I'm charging on, but now I'm doing it at a pace that is comfortable for me. Can anyone else out there relate?
