To all Ivy Tech graduates..
Look for your books on craigslist many of my classmates have listed their books for cheap on there. Many times my classmates would give their old scrub tops etc to the program chair. Check into that as it will save you lots of money and to be honest we only had clinical one day a week. You can generally get by with one set of scrubs. To be honest some of the reference books you can do without or get an old version that will work fine for careplans. Ask around and you can find some ways to cut down on the bills. Also some of your vaccines etc you can get for cheap or free at the health department. Good Luck!

Thanks to all who sent out good vibes and prayers! I passed!!! For those preparing for their exam...I used Exam Cram (mostly the disk in the back of the book. Doing practice exams starting a few weeks prior to the exam) Good Luck to those of you looking to take the test and don't get yourself worked up about it.

NCLEX Takers Support Thread
I finished my exam today in 75 questions hoping to hear some good news soon. I tried the pearson vue trick and got the "good pop up" hoping this trick has validity to it.

Waiting on ATT...
I "assumed" it would be taken care of because my program chair SAID it would be submitted later that week (The week that grades were due) And honestly this is not something I would have thought about when starting the nursing program. But yeah, it is something I wish I would have known prior to admission. Note: There were only 10 students in my class and 9 in the other class. My program chair had a total of 19 students to submit information on. There was a hold up because the program chair didn't make it to the office the week after graduation and then there were two students who weren't certified to graduate.

Waiting on ATT...
I've been checking 10 times a day for my ATT. Yesterday I text my program chair to verify all information had been sent out only to learn it has not! We graduated May 6th. Our last exam was May 4th. Grades were due that Monday. I was under the impression they were going to be sent out later that week and we would be seeing our ATTs 2-3 weeks after that. I guess she has plans to send them out today. I was hoping to get the test done prior to moving in July but that's looking less and less like it's going to happen. There is another girl in my class that got a job offer but she has 45 days after graduation to pass NCLEX. Anyone else dealing with this type of frustration?

Please help--- I am not sure what to do.
Something that helped me was to cover the answers, just read the question and write to the side everything you know about the subject (generally you'll end up with the answer or something that will help you get there) After you've written what you know then look at your answer choices and compare.

Transplant Nurses, what's your take on this scenario?
here's the scenario: a middle-aged, poor woman, who suffered from insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, demanded that medicaid pay for a pancreas transplant. this patient was reported to be uncooperative in her previous diabetic regimen and disliked giving herself insulin injections. even though medicaid in that state has a fiscal policy that denies payment for this surgery to all program recipients, the state supreme court ruled that this woman had a right to the surgery because other people with insurance or adequate funds have access to the surgery. do you think the patient had a "right" to this surgery? should society (through taxes) pay for the surgery, even though the patient was known to be a nonparticipant in the needed regimen? so i'm going no on both accounts. how would you expect a patient to follow post-transplant protocol if they are not able to follow the treatment plan for diabetes? is there something i'm missing in this scenario and what is your experience as a transplant nurse? i've posed this question to a few co-workers and gotten the same answer but my hospital not a large hospital and does not deal with transplants of any kind.

Duty to warn
Duty to warn - where is the line with this law? What i've read so far pertains to psych unit and if a person threatens to harm another. But what if you know of a person with a disease such as HIV/AIDS, and this person is putting others at risk w/o them knowing they are putting themselves at risk for this disease. Does HIPPA override the Duty to warn?
