Thanks for the advice. I haven't had a whole bunch of hospital experience, but this year I am celebrating my 6th year working with people with mental retardation. I thought that would be some good experience but apparently not. I think I am going to apply to some schools here in my hometown. It's competitive all over the place.

I didn't get into Columbia, but so far some good things are happening. One of my poems is being published and I get to read it at a poetry festival. I also have a job interview. Things are okay.

AcuteCareinProgress, when did you get your decision?
-

It's about 6:37 pm in NY. I'm guessing this concludes another long day of waiting.

Hahahaha this whole thing is pure pandemonium. I really wish we had our decisions.

I'm ANP. Didn't some people already get accepted to that specialty?

Wow, fionagurl you were a shoo in for the program. You have an impressive professional and academic background. Congratulations on getting in again! Thanks freyalisa!

It's great that HIV infection is so low, but unfortunate that Hep C is so high. I think that my downfall is that I don't have any experience working with people with HIV/AIDS. I know a lot about the science and the social aspects, but I don't have any experience actually working with the population. I really wanted to get in and do Columbia's minor in HIV/AIDS. I'm still waiting and it's driving me nuts!

That's excellent! I'm really into HIV/AIDS prevention and I believe that needle/syringe exchange programs are beneficial to stopping the spread. It's great that you are willing to work with that community because not many people are willing to do so.

mribera1, Wow! What an interesting background! It's cool that you chose nursing. What is everyone else's background if you don't mind me asking? I was a history major and spent the last five years working with children and adults with mental retardation. My academic background was a bit shaky in the beginning, but I sent them a letter explaining what happened.

I can proudly say that I was able to channel my stress into two new poems.

I applied for ANP. How many ANP applicants do they typically accept? Anyone know?
-
Columbia University-ETP
You're telling me! Sheesh! I've been waiting since September when I first turned in the application. I suppose another day or two won't hurt.

Columbia University-ETP
I'm not sure, but I believe a poster from earlier called Columbia and spoke with Jose. He said that they would be sending out the rest of the decisions later this week. I hope mine gets here tomorrow.

Columbia University-ETP
I am also waiting. It's frustrating. I've been checking my email all day long, but the decision didn't come today. I hope it does come tomorrow because I don't want to lose my mind.

Is anyone not from the east or west coast? San Antonio, TX here.

jnd, I agree. It's not like they can get organized like other fields like History or Biology because they have plenty of those teachers. I wouldn't mind teaching once I become a nurse.
-
Columbia University-ETP
Maybe it's because nursing is emerging as a big academic field. People aren't really sure how to organize it and how to deal with it. I mean look at the schools that we applied to their prerequisites were all over the place. I had to keep some of my applications to a minimum just because I didn't have some of the prereq's done.

Thank you so much for doing that codeblue! It takes a lot of the stress off. But there is that little bit left over.

Can someone explain the NP/DNP discussion? What's going on with that?

Columbia University-ETP
Jalin, I'm happy to know that I'm not the only one. I've been worried because I was convinced that they sent acceptance letters first and I didn't get one so I assumed that I was rejected. Who knows? I'm just a little irritated with the mistake that's all.

Has anyone received any sort of email today about decisions? I really wish everyone could have found out together.
-
Columbia University-ETP
Congratulations everyone! I must say that I am frustrated that I didn't get an email, which seems to mean that I didn't get in.
-
Columbia University-ETP
Geez I didn't receive an email at all. I'm excited to hear that decisions will be out tomorrow though.

I applied a little over a year ago to Columbia's History department and was rejected. The real reason why I am telling you guys this is because they sent an email letting me know that a decision had been reached. I'm pretty sure we will get an email letting us know the decision. Good luck to everyone!
