Nurse Aide NA/PCT/PCA Jobs @ NYC?
So 14-17/hour? That sounds good. So i moved to sunset park, brooklyn and am sharing a small livingroom-less 2BR with a roomate. We pay $450 each. not bad at all. So now I applied at a whole bunhc of hospitals for PCT/PCA jobs and wondering how much they make? Also wondering if it's worth the time getting CNA training? The dept labor's workforce1 has training vouchers to pay for the training. If they pay more I'll do it, but i think its stupid to re-learn what i already know. I also heard of agencies that help RN/LPN/CNAs find jobs. do they generally pay more? and i also got an interview coming up for "direct care worker working with mentally disabled people" at $10.90/hour. like HHA except the residents are mentally disabled. i goto go to their homes though (ew)

CNA Training in Pittsburgh
im a PCT at UPMC. you apply for nursing assistant. note they put "experience preferred" but not required. they train you as a NA for 40 hours (you get paid for this btw) then after working as a NA for 4-6ish months you get 8 hours of training of phlebotomy and other stuff and you get a raise as a patient care tech (PCT). you can now stick people (do blood draws) after 8-12 months you will go for basic arrhtymia and ACLS advanced cardiac life support classes (your paid once again to go to these classes) and then you get to be an advanced PCT. you now can transfer patients on heart monitors to other units. if on the journey they code you'll have to call the code, do compressions, defibrillate, etc. btw APCTs work in ERs. NA/PCTs dont.

Any Pitt Nursing students?
Hi all, I've just been accepted to Pitt's accelerated 2nd degree Nursing program. I'm excited to begin and I'm just curious about the program itself. I've heard its extremely challenging compared to other nursing schools. Is it doable? How are the faculty? Are there many programs for students in the School of Nursing out side of clinicals and lectures? Do you have any advice or things to look out for (i.e. how you would have done things differently, etc)? Just looking to learn more about what I should expect. Input from any accelerated/non-accelerated Pitt Nursing students would be great. Thanks :-)
