I have been in the ER for 2 1/2 years. I started as a new RN grad but had been an LPN 15 years prior to obtaining my RN. The best advice I can give you is to take it all in!! Don't expect to know everything all at once and some of the best advice a seasoned ER nurse gave me was there are 2 things about an ER nurse you have to remember. You are going to mess up and a good nurse will know how to fix it, and the 2nd thing is you are going to fit in or your not. The ER is not for everybody it is very fast paced, team work is imperative and the other nurses have to know you are confident and able to trust you to work with them. When a critical patient comes in everyone falls into there job and time and experience will help you find your way. Take as many classes as you can and ask lots of questions!!! Don't ever be afraid to ask a question or have something clarified. I am still learning everyday and it is a great place to work. Goodluck and best wishes!!
  2. I took my nclex today and feel totally overwhelmed and feel like i failed. I wanted to know if anyone knows--since I took it this am (friday) will I have to wait 2 business days to find out my results? Kentucky is a quick response state and most of my friends who have taken the exam in the middle of the week have found out in 24 hours. Please let me know. I am sick with worry.
  3. Hello everyone. I started studying for A & P yesterday feel a little overwhelmed. I am not sure how long i should allow myself to study before taking the exam. This will be my first test with Excelsior. I need Micro after this one and then the nursing courses. Is there anyone out there that can give me some tips on studying and what i can expect from the exams. I am so afraid if i do poorly on my first exam i will get discouraged. I have the excelsior study guide and bought the book --that is another question i got the 4th edition and the guide says the 6th edition --does it make that much difference? Any info or hepful hints would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
