Am I cut out to be a nurse?
I meant that if I don't study and go to clinicals without studying I could make a grave error. And it was my workplace that didn't want me to come back, not the school. There were rumours circulating around about me at work. I probably do have problems. I know I wasn't assertive enough, I'm working on that.

Studying Techniques
I read through the entire A&P text and I made a list of all the key terms in microsoft onenote, and had a separate page for every unit. Then when I sort of knew something, I'd highlight it in yellow, and when I totally new it I'd highlight it in blue. This worked really well for me :) And sometimes I'd add a sentence next to the term to remind me what it was about, but no more than a short sentence just to jog my memory :)

Am I cut out to be a nurse?
Here's where I'm at. I've completed my first two years. Did awsome with anatomy and physiology, rushed through all the nursing and patho and pharm and passed but..... I'm forgetting it now, so I'm reviewing. I dropped my 3rd year nursing classes for the semester and am taking a patient teaching course and a professional ethics course. And doing major review. I worked as a nursing attendant over the summer. It was hard because my first clinical instructor didn't teach us anything. Any noone liked me. I tried to go back after I dropped classes but they didn't want me to come back I tried to get another nursing job but noone wanted to hire me for only one or two months. So I'm getting a job at a retail store as a cashier for Christmas. Last night I had a dream that God told me if I don't study someone will die. And now I'm SCARED. I'm going to study my butt off. But I have this feeling (and usually my feelings are always right) that I am not intelligent enough to be a nurse. Even if I pass everything. Like, if there's a patient in front of me. And they are confused. And I don't GET IT. It doesn't click. Until after the fact. What do you think?

Assessment
Can someone please explain to me what is expected for an initial assessment when you are at clinical (or nursing) at the hospital? My first clinical where we were supposed to learn assessment, the instructor didn't seem to know what he was doing, and he didn't teach us anything much (except he taught me how to make a bed once). Mostly we just hang around the nursing station and studied the patients charts and practiced blood pressures. It wasn't until near the end of the semester that we had a substitute and she was shocked at how little we knew. She asked me to do my assessment and I didn't understand what she was even talking about. Then I realized she must want me to do assessment (so that's why we were taking that assessment course! duh) so that I could fill out the flow sheet. SO I figured it out from there. My next clinical I had an awsome instructor but she was busy finding time to teach us to give meds and stuff so there really wasn't time for her to teach me assessment which I was already supposed to know. So I did my best to come up with my little assessment plan, which works to fill out the flow sheet and get information, but I think I'm disorganized. Over the summer I got a job as a nursing attendant. I was able to learn the stuff an aide does from that job. I wish I had known how to do everything before I started working there though. Guess I could've read my textbook more... And one question I still have is, are we supposed to be doing the COMPLETE head-to-toe examination when we are at clinical? Or is it just a shorter version of that? I am assuming it is a shortened, focused, assessment. Is this correct? Also, do we do the health history and general survey too? Is there anything else that goes along with it? (Some of this I think I might know but I'm craving clarity!) And any advice for doing assessment you have for me? What's the most important thing that you would like a student to know about assessment?
