  1. no names or hospitals were mentioned - you were relaying the facts of life as they actually occur in every hospital - sounds like your freedom of speech is being undermined.
  2. Help - I need info, good or bad, about the California Nurses Association - if anyone has comments, please send them - there are alot of us out there who don't know if we should vote cna in or not - thanks
  3. BOO to anyone who crosses a nursing picket line - we are trying so hard to earn a fair wage, obtain better working conditions and to earn the respect we so deserve - why would anyone in our profession do something which would undermine our goals - this is why nursing is "an endangered species" - not enough money, not enough respect, and not enough of us to go around - I urge you to talk to your friend and try to persuade him/her to stop this course of action - together we're strong!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. it's a funny thing - i went into nursing for the job security and the money - it wasn't that i didn't have caring for the patients but caring for my kids was more important, i.e. supporing them - but then an even funnier thing happened along the way - the caring aspect kicked in and i can honestly say i have a deep caring and empathy for my patients, mostly poor, innercity people who turn to us as their "private doctory" and also as their last resort - i also do home health on the side and at an inservice yesterday, the owner refers to nursing as "a calling" and i think he's right - alot of people go into nursing but if that deeper calling isn't there, they'll only last a year or two - the rest of us hang on even through poor working conditions, salaries that definitely below what we deserve and sometimes uncaring managers - fortunately our current manager is awesome but that wasn't always the case - anyway, the whole point is this: nursing is a calling and people the world over should give thanks that some of us have heeded that calling.
  5. Fortunately I work in a union hospital and presumably won't be affected by the OT bill - I tend to think this bill will just further erode nursing as a profession and to discourage nurses from doing OT - alot of us have side jobs doing home health so we don't worry about it - I sure wouldn't go into work on an off day if I'm not getting time and a half
