  1. Ruby, didn't I say that this was my first ever write up? there had been no previous warnings, that is why final warning for first write up seems harsh. I come to this comunity to seek opinion and support but you seem to want to jump to the worse conclusion and make assumptions of people that you've never met. I appreciate your opinion on the matter but not on what kind of nurse I am without ever knowing me.
  2. I am not saying i am not taking responsibility for this error. I am posting in the forum to ask for opinion and so far the census seems to be that I did made an error which I appreciate and accept. I forgot to mention that this is my first ever write up and that is why the final warning seems a little harsh. How did you get the impression that there is a pattern from what I posted? Just because it is a final warning does not mean that i have a pattern, the degree of discipline is up to management and in this case you have no idea if they are being fair so you should not infer.
  3. You should consult with a lawyer and bring up the your pregnancy, there are laws protecting pregant women in many states.
  4. Hi All, recently i have been called to my managers office because I put another patient's name on a potassium IV that was suppose to be given to my patient. The reason for this oversight is that the other patient was also on potassium IV. My manager gave me a final warning for this error. A union delegate was present and we filed for grievance. What is the appropriate level of discipline for labeling errors? I did all the five rights. Right drug, right time, right route, right patient and right time. Thanks for your inputs.
  5. Hi, i have a similar question, i completed my first year of nursing and i plan to include my medical experience, clinical rotations and a section for skills. Where do you think they should all go on the resume in terms of order? Right this is what i have. Experience Rotations Skills Education Community Service Any advice would be appreciated.
  6. itzallgood, maybe some people have interesting lives to write about. its not about telling the whole world your life, its about taking an aspect of it and turning into something memorable and something people can relate to. why do you think there are millions of bloggers out there?
  7. hi all, i just started a blog and i am concerned with breaching HIPPA. For those of you who have blogs, what are somethings that i can or can not say in my blog? Thank you!
  8. Lola: im so glad you posted this message, i am a new grad and just accepted a job on the rehab unit. As soon as i got on the unit, the nurses told me that i should move on to other speciality to get more experience. I've heard many times that i should look into working on med-surg and acute care from different nurses. It is easy to be impressionable as a new grad and i find myself getting restless partly because of the advises from well intended veteran nurses. However, i agree with everything that everyone else said here, so far, i found rehab to be very rewarding, i get different kinds of patient's all the time, i have less support so have i have the oppertunity to develop indepedent critical thinking skills, and get tremendous satisfaction when patients leave this place in better shape when they came. It is a happy and proactive place and most of the time, it puts me in a good mood. I just started working and as a brand new grad, is it hard to say that i want to settle down, but i will never regret working in rehab for my first job, and it is something that i see myself coming back to. So thanks for starting this post, it gave me a different point of view and a different voice than what i've been hearing.
  9. Hi RNnightingale, i sympathize with you. I've been looking for a job since i passed the boards in November and the search is very slow. I've looked in New York and New Jersey. I see what you mean by a lot of the hospitals closing. I'm trying to keep positive and i think that one of the reasons why we are not getting results is because this is the end of the year and the hiring is very slow. Nurses aren't leaving their jobs year end and hospitals need to reassess their budgets for the next year. Hopefully things will turn aound in the new year. I know it's difficult, i thought that the job is in the bad as well when i graduated nursing school and this is very unexpected. A part of me is afraid that the new year won't make that much of a difference but... i think its better to keep a positive attitude! keep plugging away, you are not alone.
  10. I found the link to apply for reciprocity for licensing in NJ http://www.njconsumeraffairs.gov/nursing/endor_app.pdf The other one posted on this website in 2007 has moved. I hope this helps others who are looking into NJ reciprocity.
  11. Thank You, it is very clear.
  12. From reading the posts above. I assume that if i have NY license and wants to apply for reciprocity in New Jersey. I have to A. establish residency there and B. can not practice in both states because NY and NJ are not compact states. Is that correct? I really appreciate your responses.
