  1. I am a new graduate I have been looking several months for a position and I finally landed one as a Charge Nurse for a small ALF. I am very excited but nervous at the same time. I am a quick learner and not at all worried about the responsibilites of the position however; I am a little concerned about the staff. When I was interviewed for the position I was told that there are a few staff members who are not really "open" to new employees coming in. This was told to me by the owner and administrator. I couldnt believe my ears. I was thinking is this a sorority or a business?? She also said "I hope they don't run you off." Hmmm... I took the position because I need a place to start getting experience as its very hard as a new grad to get your foot in the door. I am just nervous that the administrator allows them to run the show and I am not sure how to handle this. Any advice would be great I start in another week:)
  2. Hey Mari55, As far as the books I emailed someone and she said that we had to come with all our books on day one. I know we probably won't be using them until core is over but thats what she emailed me.
  3. Thanks so much. I tried to email you but I dont know if it went through. So I should practice metric conversions anything else? I am so excited and nervous at the same time but I am glad your ahead of me to guide me. I appreciate all your help. I hope you and your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Send me anything you can:D Talk to you later.
  4. I am going to be attending Atlantic Technical (coconut creek) in January the process wasn't that bad just alot too do. I started with the Orientation in September and was accepted two months later so there is no waiting list just first come first served once you have completed orientation, background, drug screening, physical and TEAS Test.I know several people that have attended and they enjoyed going there. Its a tuff program but so are the rest to pass. Also ATC has one of the highest passing rates for the NCLEX. Good Luck!
  5. 754-321-5100 That is the main number if you need any other help let me know.
  6. I was going through the process at PBCC and Atlantic Technical School in Coconut Creek. I got into Atlantic Tech I started the process in October and will be starting in January. It fills up quick but there is a new session every nine weeks. The next session open is in April. You might want to consider trying it out. They will also use your scores from PBCC TEAS test. There is no point system as long as you pass the TEAS, Background and Drug Screening it is on a first come first serve basis much easier to get in. Its an excellent school with a passing rate of 95-100% on the NCLEX. Also the whole program is around $5000.00 for the year. Just some info I thought I should share. Good Luck:)
  7. I was told for the english that it is very similiar to the GED test. So I would go to your local library and check it out. I am not that great in english either, amazingly I did well but all I used was the ATI Book. My friend was having trouble with the english and the GED Book helped her. Hope this helps:)
  8. Hey Mari55, They do offer tuition reimbursment for alot of companies especially in health care because they want you to advance. Once I became an LPN I plan on working for a LTC facility that I have a connection with that will pay for the remainder of my ASN degree. So the possibilities are definitely out there.
  9. I sent you an message in your inbox with some tips.
  10. The girl at the desk told me to make sure I get a strolling book bag so you may want to be on the lookout for that! The form we got in orientation shows for term I that we need a stop watch, stethescope, bp cuff, flash drive and headphones. I spoke to a girl that is going nights and she said the first three weeks we are only doing math conversions and stuff.... they dont even stay the whole night they leave after about two hours for the first three weeks. If you want to call me I am going to send u a message with my phone number and personal email so we can keep in touch.
  11. I finally passed my TEAS test I had to retake the science portion and passed with a 97! I was able to register and I have been admitted to ATC for January. This has been a crazy journey but so excited! I would love to meet anyone else going in January. MSMIAMI
  12. Oh Great! Maybe we can be study partners? What have you gotten so far? I noticed you posted questions about supplies. I am so excited about starting. This has been a long journey that I am excited I finally reached!
  13. Hey MARI55, Just curious are you going to be going in the morning or evenings? I will be going in the evenings. I registered today there was only 6 seats left as of today for january. MSMIAMI.
  14. Just try to relax I know its hard but the day of your exam just try to let go of the stress. If wont help you to do any better if you are stressed. I am retaking my science next tuesday and I am just ready to get it over with as well. I am hoping to get into morning but if I can't I will be go in the evening whatever is available at this point. Just remember a new session starts every nine weeks so if you have to wait another semester its not too bad. Good LUCK!!! MSMIAMI
  15. Hey Amayabrianna, Sorry I am responding so late but I havent really gotten a chance to be online lots of stuff going on with my daughter so I have been busy with her. I would like to know if you could send me your number . I dont know how to do this privately on this site. Maybe your more familiar. I work monday through friday from 9-5 I could meet you on tuesday at the school if that would work for you in the evening or whatever is best. I am home this weekend so if you get this message today I could pick it up from you tomorrow. Thanks again for all your help. MsMIAMI
  16. Hello Amayabrianna, I didn't pass the TEAS science section. I did extremely well in all of the other areas but bombed the science. So I was not suprised. I know you said that you had some stuff that could help me. I would be willing to meet you whenever it is convenient for you. My problem is definitely physics. I am excited you are registered and got in. Thanks again,
  17. Thank you so much for the info! Unfortunately it is too late for me to meet up with you my test is tomorrow. I will definitely keep you posted on how I do. I am so nervous but whatever happens I will be ok with it. I love the fact your so positive I wish I could be more like that. Thanks again:D
  18. No my orientation was Sept 15 and I was told Oct 6 was the first opening for TEAS which was fine for me. I am really praying that I pass all sections the first time. I have my file complete I just have to pass the TEAS. I did the online ATI assement practice and I scored high on everything but science. I got a 33% so I really need help on the science. I am having trouble with physics never took it and pretty much everything else in science. If you could give me any tips that would be great. I appreciate your help.
  19. For the Periodic table how much did you have to know? Did you have to have it memorized? Any feedback on that would be great.
  20. Thanks for your input. My husband was saying maybe nights would be better for that same reason if my daughter gets sick I could be home with her for the majority of the day until my husband could get home. I think I am going to lean more to that. My only issue is that I am more of a morning person so I would have to adjust. Plus I live in Palm Beach so I wouldnt get home until 11. I do like the fact you have fridays off though. I am taking my TEAS next week so I would probably have to decide by then. Are you starting in January?
  21. Yes I have completed all sciences but this is for an lpn program no science pre-req's are required. Any other info on TEAS would be appreciated.
  22. I am taking the TEAS in less than two weeks. I am ok with the math and reading its the science I am concerned about. I was told to review the Mcgraw-Entrance book but it seems like so much more then what the ATI guide covers. I dont want to have to retain anymore than I have too. Any thoughts on the science portion using the ATI guide? Was it enough for most of you? Also what would you advise I focus on? Thanks I am in despair.
  23. I am looking to start the LPN Program in January but I dont know if I should go days or evenings. I have a 2 year old who goes to daycare during the day and in the evening my husband picks her up. I think I am more of a morning person but after going to orientation I am a little intrigued about evenings. The schedule is days; 7:00-1:45 M-F or Evenings 2:00 to 10:15 M-TH you get Fridays off. I would like to work a small part time job maybe 15-20 hours per week but that is not my main concern school is. At orientation the Director mentioned that in her opinion evenings are better because the hospital is not so hectic and you learn more. The last term of the program the evenings will go to day time schedule just to feel how it is work a day time shift. Any feedback would be great from anyone that has been through this process or know someone that has. Thanks
  24. Thanks, Will do!
