I'm in Michigan..... I looked at all kinds of information to see if I could retest. It said that I had to COMPLETE (not sure what exactly that means...) the NCLEX within one year of my first attempt. It's been well over a year since my first attempt. It also said that I need to go through an education program approved by the MI department of nursing in order to test a fourth time... I don't know if that means I have to go through school or not to do it, but that is completely out of the question for me. I'm in school now to get my BS in Education. I'm going to continue to go to school until I figure this out, because there is no point in dropping out mid-semester!! I'm thinking (based on the information that I found) that it is too late for me to retest, UNLESS I go all the way back through school. That sucks, but I can deal with that if that is the case... I can't afford to retest anyway... So if I were able to test again it would not be any time soon..... I made some kind of thread under a link and posted something for the general public about this issue, in case there is someone out there on this site that is perhaps a nursing educator in MI or someone who was in a similar situation. I know how hard this is, but if your heart is still in it, give it all you've got and don't let it get the best of you. I'm really not sure that my heart IS still in it anymore after all the grief the NCLEX saga has caused me.

Help!
I was looking over the rules of the NCLEX, and I'm not sure if I can take it again or not.... It said that you need to COMPLETE (whatever that means) the NCLEX within one year of your first attempt and that you can take it six times. I have failed the NCLEX three times so far.... And the first time I took it was August 23, 2007. Does that mean that I can't ever take it again? I've only taken it three times.. Also, it said that after you fail three times that you need to complete an education program that has been accepted by the state's board of nursing. Does that mean I need to go back to college and go through the ENTIRE nursing program again in order to take this exam again?? HELP! I really hope I am completely wrong, and that I can just go through a review program and not have to go through school all over again and that I AM able to take the exam again even though it's been over a year since my first try..... I had a 4.0 GPA in school. I don't understand why this is happening to me. Especially after doing AWESOME at three different guaranteed review programs... I appreciate any help on this matter that I can get. I tried looking on all kinds of official websites, and can't get a straightforward answer... THANK YOU!!!!

I completely know how you feel! I graduated from nursing school in May of 2007, and I had a 4.0 in school and was above most of my class in the hospital (so I knew it wasn't just book smarts). I went through a guaranteed review program, felt very confident and went to take my exam, and I failed the NCLEX. I was completely beside myself, so Iwent through a different guaranteed review program, took the test a second time, and I failed again... This time I was angry. So then I went through the review program that is directly associated with the NCLEX. Two days before my test I took a "comprehensive predictor" test to see how I would do on the actual licensure exam and it said I had a NINETY-EIGHT percent chance of passing my test. So two days later I took the NCLEX a third time, because I needed to do it just one more time, and I FAILED AGAIN! =( I decided that this must be a sign, and completely gave up on the idea of being a nurse. I wasn't sure it was worth going into all the trouble it caused (I lost my job because I failed my boards, even though my co-workers and supervisors knew I was smart and just having issues with the exam). That was in January 2008 that I made that decision. Now I'm back in college to become a teacher. I rationalize all the time about how this is a "better fit" and how I'll be happier, but I don't have a job doing anything because all of my jobs have been in health related positions. I have no money (because I had had to use all saved money to pay for my apartment and bills when I lost my job because of failing the freaking NCLEX. Now I'm completely emotionally distraught because I have no idea what to do with my life and am constantly second guessing myself (which NEVER happened before I failed the NCLEX) and wondering if I made the right decision... Also, I kind of want to take the NCLEX again, just because I NEED a job, and I did go to school for all those years... I just don't know if I can even do it, because it's been so long since my last attempt and since I graduated... Plus I need to do something special in order to take the test a fourth time... Apparently there is something you have to do to prove you're actually interested after you fail three times.... What did you have to do? I really just want to feel secure again. I feel like I'm starting my entire life over and I hate it. Also, no one knows this because I hide it and hate how everyone harasses me about "giving up." I'm really sorry this also happened to you. My heart definitely goes out to you. =(
