Advice for 75 Hour CNA Classes in Des Moines?
RN and CNA's are totally different level's of Nursing. To be a CNA the minimum requirements here in Iowa are 75hr certification and/or successful pass both the (State) written and skills test. -if you think you have enough healthcare expirience and know whats expected of a cna, then you can chose to challenge the tests (both skills and written) -If you can't, then you have to go to a community college and take the course. Around Des Moines, DMACC will be yur best option (they have a month or two waiting list), but if you have the money, just go to mercy and bypass the waiting list! hope this makes sence, good luck on your endeavours!

CNA or LPN? What is the difference in Iowa?
hey CK, CNA does basic personal cares like showers, and assisting the resident/patient with activities of daily living (ADL's) like walking (ambulating) feeding, oral care's and so on and so forth LPN, on the other hand, can do all the above and then some. They can assess the patient/resident, plan care and come up with goals for the patient (r/t Nursing process);- they usually do this with coordination/supervision of an RN. And LPN's can administer Medications too. In regards to WAGES, LPN makes about $40,000 a year, while the CNA makes around $24,000/yr (give or take) this translates to about $20/hr for LPN and $12/hr for CNA. Either way, they are both important on the Health care Delivery System, they only have a difference on education levels and scope of practice.

CNA state test?
"You can reach the registry at (850) 245-4567 or you may write to the Department of Health, Florida Nursing Assistant Registry at 4052 Bald Cypress Way, Bin #C13, Tallahassee, Florida 32399-3263." http://www.doh.state.fl.us/mqa/cna/cna-faqs.htm One more thing, I would encourage you to read the cna book if you still have it and google "cna skills test" and practice a few tests, both written and skills. here's a good one: http://www.asisvcs.com/indhome_fs.asp?CPCat=0000NURSE practice, practice, practice. it would also be to your benefit to ask the board of nursing (BON) to send you any information pertaining to the cna testing and certification. good luck!
