  1. Hi all :typing I have been a RN for a year now am trying to transfer to a NYC hospital. I have applied everywhere (Mt.Sinai, NYU, St. Vincents, Bellevue, Lenox Hill... you name it) and have only heard back from NY Presbyterian. I am interested in going into maternity and applied for a few open positions there. A recruiter finally called me back and said she would send my resume to the recruiter of that unit but because my experience is in tele i may not be considered. I have already called back twice now but she said the other recruiter is on vaca...I have heard the hiring process at NY Presbyterian takes forever and the fastest way to go about is to try to get someone on a floor to pass your resume on to a manager. I am desperately trying to move and have been applying since january-- is there anyone out there that either works for NY Pres or any other NYC hospital that is willing to give me some advice or maybe direct me to a good contact person? I would appreciate it soo much!! I have been trying so hard and want this more than anything! Thanks everyone!

Hi RNalby! what hospital was this in nyc that was starting 32-35/hr for pysch? just curious thanks!!
  3. thanks so much for all your knowledge!! i have a BS and im working in tele right now.. i want to get into NICU... any idea how competitive that is? everyone is telling me that stamford, norwalk, and greenwcih are on the small side with hospitals and to get a true NICU experience i should go to a bigger hospital. unfortunetly stamford is definetly where im relocating to.. so i cant work at yale or HH. is bridgeport or danberry bigger?
  4. thanks so much for all the info! i guess im trying to do as much research before i apply because where i live is atleast a 3.5 hr drive to come to interview in CT... not even including NY... so i guess im trying to narrow down my search... but do u have any idea about those 3 hospitals (norwalk, greenwich and stamford) in terms of starting salary? i heard from somoene that starting for norwalk was 32/hr but that seemed very high to me, considering that my start was 27/hr. just was hoping someone knew! thank you!! :)
  5. thanks so much for the info on westchester... any idea how much starting salary is for someone with 1 year experience? i hear that some of the stamford, norwalk, is around 31/hr... just wanted to compare! thanks :)
  6. Hi NY nurses! i am an RN in MA... just started out and making 27/hr. I am looking to move to stamford, CT next fall... im trying to make the best financial decision of where the push to work either NY or CT? i heard that the hospitals in the southern CT area make 31/hr. after a year worth of experience... but i also have friends at mt. sinai/NYU already making 72,000/yr that just started. I am wondering how much do u actually take home in a paycheck with taxes and health care taken out, i know all hospitals are different... but rough estimate for NY hospitals? i know taxes are higher in NY and with the commute i would have to pay 300+ a month for the train and an hr both ways... trying to figure out which is more worth it... CT or NY? thanks for any advice!! :)
  7. thanks for all the info i really appreciate it ill def look into that...
  8. hi, im actually an RN from MA, but plan on moving to stamford... im looking at stamford, greenwich and norwalk hospital? wondering how the pay is there... and if its worth it to make the commute to NYC for more$$? i know NY taxes more and the commute would be about an hr. and 300 dollars a month for commuting... does anyone know if there would be a huge diff in salary bt southern cT and NYC? im just trying to make the best financial decision at this point...
  9. my advice is dont use saunders!! i took it in may passed in 75 ?s but used Kaplan. it was the best thing i did... saunders doesnt help to with the priority ?s they asked and i felt like it was wayyy to in depth no way ur gonna remember all the stuff in saunders. if you have the 500 dollars, i would def reccomend kaplan... they give u a refund if you fail bc there pass rate in over 90%. If you decide to do kaplan do all the online stuff read the book, its way shorter than saunders and hits the points u need and do alllll the ?s they give which is like over 2000. and u will be fine and PASS with flying colors!! :) good luck
  10. Hi all, I currently am an RN in MA i just grad. with a BSN from UConn in May so I have only been working for 2 months now. You would think boston pays great but actually my start salary was only 27/hr. I am dead set on moving back to CT to live with friends in Stamford Ct next fall so by then i'll have a years worth of experience. I am trying to figure out which would be more worth it... to apply to the hospitals in Stamford, Greenwich, and Norwalk... which would be a short nice commute.. or apply to NYC hospitals. I know NYC pays better but I'm wondering with taxes taken out and +$300/ month for commuting, and i hear its about an hr. commute, would there be a huge diff in salary?? Does that area in CT make around the same as NYC or no? Someone pls help me, really confused of where to apply/renew license? does anyone know how hard it is to get a job at stamford/norwalk area? i heard getting jobs in NYC can be really hard... i would really appreciate any feedback thanks soo much!!! :)
