AORN Congress - anyone going?
You bet Nursing! We will be going to the medline breakfast. If you know anyone that works for medline ask them for tickets to the breakfast, I forget which morning it is. But it starts at 5:30 to 7:30. It will be fun. Also scanlon is having their big get together, I got a flyer in the mail for that. If you need info I can get it for you. It's all at work, but I can get it to you on Monday.

Pain pumps
We just recently had our pharmacist go to a seminar and he informed us that "anything over 100mls had to be filled by a pharmacist" So what we have to do is bring the written order with medication and amount and a pain pump to the pharmacist and then he brings it back to the surgery desk and then the pump is attached after the dressing is on. The MD primes the catheters and threads them and then the scrub tech or nurse attaches the pain pump. I think this is crazy. Has anyone else heard of this?

AORN Congress - anyone going?
my employer is paying for it. I put it in my budget. I'm sure your employer would pay for it if they encourage AORN membership. I sure would at least ask. Me and another girl is going we are arriving on friday night and she is going to the laser certification class on sat and sun, and i am going to the management for new managers on saturday.

OK who else is dealing with Universal Protocol?
I am glad its not just me, I swear, I think I'm going crazy. Don't know how much more of this I can take. We had an MD mark ALL OVER a pt's face, he put a big arrow towards a mass he was going to remove, just being sarcastic. Things like that make me so mad. It's the patient that suffers. Time outs are not working like they are supposed to, people are disregarding it completely....don't know what to do!!

OK who else is dealing with Universal Protocol?
:banghead:I am having a hard time dealing with the new Universal Protocol from The Joint Commission starting Jan 2009. Time out before anesthesia, time out before procedure, marking of patient by the MD only. I'm ready to get out of healthcare completely!! Does anyone feel the same, or am I just crazy? So many rules......
